Monterey, California Map
VIEW FULL MAP

Go before just before sunset so you can see Monterey at its best BUT park across the park (not in the parking lot to this place) because it closes at 6. Also, there are stairs so don’t go if you have knee problems. good if you’re trying to practice your enduro

Gorgeous, otters just swimming around!

Nice forest feel. Worth exploring all the different roads/trails at the top to see the best views.

Nice trail with many opportunities to view wildlife and gorgeous rock formations. Also food and restrooms available along the way. An easy walk.

NOT A HIKE you pay $10.25 to enter what is basically a gated community and there are no trails. I’m disappointed in you, California state parks.

Some steep hills. Great for cardio and a fun short hike.

Stroller firendly

good relaxing trail.

A little confusing using All Trails since there are three different trail names that can be followed. Pays to view the map in the photo’s first.

We picked the hotest day to do this hike. There is no water on this trail and very dry location. Be sure to bring water. The hike was easy/moderate in exercise. The 185 steps was a good stair master workout... the terrain was basically dirt road or trail. A few open view of the ocean, otherwise just fallen pine tree's and not much else. Poison Oak was abundant when we went but the trail was not too overgrown. They had a "Basic" map that can be used to get through the hike. One can't really get lost thought. I have been on prettier hikes in Monterey. This one was similar to "Jack Peak". We only saw 1-2 other hikers. (Did this hike on Thrusday 11-1pm -2 hours at a very relax pace)

A dog friendly, urban walk with outstanding views of the Pacific Coast and Monterey Bay. Beyond Lovers Point in Pacific Grove, there is a rugged dirt trail hugging the coast for the adventurous. Alternatively, one can also walk the Ocean Blvd and still enjoy the scenic view. Part of the 18 mile coastal trail from Castroville to Pacific Grove, this 7 mile out and back segment covers the 3.5 mile section from San Carlos Beach in Monterey to Point Pinos Lighthouse in Pacific Grove.

I have experienced the amazing coastal views of Pebble Beach and 17 Mile Drive several times by way of the very popular scenic drive. However, on one wonderful visit with my uncle a number of years ago, we spent much of our time exploring the area on mountain bikes. It is a special memory I have of a family member who just recently passed. I always love returning to the Monterey Peninsula/Pebble Beach/Carmel area!

Jack's Peak should be a spot on your radar if you are hiking with a furry friend or two, just heard a tsunami warning, ❤️ Monterey Pines, or had a late lazy feed and want a place to hike that offers some mid day shade while you burn off that breakfast burrito, beignet or benedict on some rolling forest hills. Some excellent bay views spanning Pt Lobos to Moss Landing and across the big blue to Santa Cruz. If you rolled back time 12 million years, Jack's Peak would have been an island in the Pacific Ocean. Most of your hike will be absorbing the vibes of the endemic Monterey Pine Forest, peppered with just enough poison oak to keep you from daydreaming. Be prepared with $5 cash for self registered parking. Otherwise, just outside the county park gates, there are 10 or so roadside parallel parking spots if you don't mind hiking, biking or skating in. Doggie poo bags available at the entrance kiosk if you forgot your own.

Easy nice hike after work. Trail is well taken care of, pretty shady walk (as in trees). Pond was nice and lots of birdies chirping

Once again writing from the point of a dad with 4 kids. The parking off of Jack's Peak road had picnic tables with views of Monterey Bay as well as bathrooms with running water. There is also an information board with trail maps. A great place to start with kids. There are several trails that converge here and I recommend starting with the skyline self guided nature trail (there is a brochure available for download at the parks site). The skyline trail provides better views of the bay and dead ends into Iris so it is a great add on. Iris and Rhus themselves are really nice forest trails. If you are into geocaching make sure you check your app because there are a ton of them in this park. The weekday hours were from 10:00 to 5:00 so keep that in mind if you are headed there Monday-Friday. Overall this a great place to hike with kids. Great views, enough challenge, and plenty of opportunities to hit the bathroom.

We went on a beautiful day and got glimpses of the bay, Carmel beach, etc but other than that it was a forest trail. Still very enjoyable, but I was expecting more views!

This is a really beautiful trail to take kids of any age on. If you don't have anything better to do on weekend morning then check this trail out.
