Hard sections but the bathtub and views are worth it!

Great day hike with the option of camping close to the lake. I’ve never seen so many bugs as I have on this trail. Bring the strong deet!

Great overall trail. As mentioned before, the majority of the trail is shaded and offers some great views. Keep in mind that you are going from 7800ft to 10k ft elevation; so be careful to monitor yourself for acute mtn sickness(alt sickness). Within the first few hrs, I started to get a headache and took some 81mg aspirin to alleviate the headache and slight dizziness. If you decide to do an overnight here, be advised that fires are not allowed above 10K ft. I saw a few fire pits up in the area; please respect the wilderness laws. It would be a shame to see this area burn. On another note; the road into this area is very unforgiving to smaller vehicles. Lots of pot holes and areas that are single lane passes. Just like the trail; have some road etiquette.

This is a hard hike with some really steep sections. But totally worth the view! Lots of mosquitos. Dog friendly. Went in the beginning of September and the weather was perfect.

Hiked later part of August 2019. No one on the trail down. Follow the non 4x4 signs to Edison to get to the trailhead. You hike up one ridge then down another. The reason it is difficult is going back up that ridge after you have hiked for 4 hours after enjoying the wonderful waterfalls, deep pools, and slides. It was my favorite hike by far this year. Put your bug spray on when you hit the creek. No skeeters before that. I will post some amazing pictures. Many fishermen down on the trail. Best campsite was the twin slides a few miles up the creek.

So we made our way to the northeast end of Davis Lake, about 6.3 miles. Lots of Mosquitoes so bring a head net as well as lots of Deet!!!!! You will need it! Absolutely gorgeous lake I have to admit. We found a little beach right near where we set up camp, we took our inner tubes out on the lake and paddled to the opposite side. The sand bar went out a couple hundred feet or so about knee to thigh deep then dropped off. We saw an amazing waterfall on the West side of the Lake so we just had to see it up close. So after our mid day swim we hiked over to it. We made our way all the way around the lake. About 2.5 miles including getting up close to the falls. Hilton lake #2 was beautiful as well, we did some fishing there but didn’t stay very long since we had camped there before. We saw a bear there last time but no sighting this trip. There are plenty of creeks on your way in to get your water refilled as long as you have a filter of course. I feel like the elevation gain going in is just about the same coming out. Kicked my butt both directions! So just beware it’s just as tough hiking out as it is hiking in. We enjoyed our 2 nights for sure.

The trial is great and an easy over night hike. It’s well worth it to take the short hike up to the upper lakes. Bugs weren’t bad, but definitely need bug spray. Most of the hike is also in the shade and is a mellow grade until a steep last half mile.

Backpacked this in mid-July and the mosquitoes were insane. A mosquito head net and jungle juice (98% DEET mix) made it much more pleasant, although I still came away with a lot of bites. Even with all that, it was incredible. Would have been 5 stars without the bugs, but it was such a view, especially at night under a full moon. The bathtub itself is shallow, but not enough to touch. You can swim out to a rock in the middle, but I'd only recommend that to a strong swimmer. It is very cold and the hike and elevation probably took more out of you than you realize.

Would have taken 5.5 hours to the lake and back but I was motivated to find some fishing on cold creek and the creek coming out of bathtub. Best spots were just below lake otherwise really hard to access and overgrown the whole way up. Pretty lake. not too many flat campsites for overnighting but further adventuring up the lake looks like it could be nice.

The mosquitos this time of year are crazy, take bug spray, we had to reapply on the trail a few times. The hike is awesome, and pretty easy.

Trail is in great shape considering the winter we have had. A few downed trees and high creeks made for extra work. Otherwise it’s a great hike. A few bits of advice, the mosquitoes are really bad and Kaiser Pass Road isn’t for the faint of heart. If you are going to go, do yourself a favor and plan on spending a few days there just to justify having to negotiate the road.

It was a great hike and the end is sooo beautiful! We expected there to be a lot more snow still but it really wasn’t too bad at all. We did lose the trail a few times. The worst of it was about one mile in - it’s super washed out, under water and there are fallen trees everywhere so you can still get through without getting wet. Super helpful to pull up the app to see where you are on the trail, we had to do that quite a few times! Well worth it!

Hiked this with friends in August a few years ago. We got a late start so the section of trail with no cover and just boulders was pretty toasty. Luckily the Devil's Bathtub was biting cold and so refreshing!

Finding the trailhead was a little difficult. Drive past Vermillion Valley Resort and then signs will pop up for the trailhead. Well marked trail with a beautiful end point. In mid October it was really windy and cold on a sunny day with a predicted temp of 60 degrees. I would say it was closer to 40-50 with the wind chill so we weren't able to swim. It took us about 3.5 hours up and 2.5 hours down. About 3 miles into the hike, there is flatter ground to the right of the trail where there is a beautiful view of Edison and the surrounding mountains and valley. The view was just as beautiful if not more beautiful than the Devils Bathtub.

This is an excellent trail. It's very strenuous, but the scenery is amazing and the trail is very well maintained and marked. I never had a problem losing the trail. The actual hot springs are hard to find, and are considerably off the trail. Make sure you have the AllTrails app downloaded on your phone and you can find them from people’s recordings.
