Beautiful back country dirt road. I used to camp between meadow lake and twin lake as a kid and it's still as beautiful as ever. Meadow lake has leeches. Just FYI. not sure about Twin lake. Theres a few more lakes up in the mountains that are between the blue lakes and twin lake.

Was there on 7/28/2018. Trail was open by this time. Twin Lake and Meadow Lake are beautiful little lake. A short 1/4 mile to get to Meadow Lake from the end of the 4x4 trail.

We left the trail at 4.3 miles and climbed north up to the ridge then west over one false summit and another bump or two to Deadwood Peak. I’d call it an easy class 2 route though the climb was definitely strep and strenuous at times. (The track for this hike shows a shorter, more direct, and I think easier route to the summit than we took.). On the small summit there was a pile of rocks but we did not notice a summit marker or journal box. From Deadwood we did the easy 1/3 mile walk over to the next unnamed high point to the west, which according to summit journal notes, appears to sometimes get confused for the 100’ higher Deadwood Peak. We then descended back to the Grouse Lake Trail from the saddle between there and Deadwood. This was a very nice hike with spectacular scenery and impressive wildflowers in mid July. Remote and lightly traveled compared to most hikes around Tahoe. Though not an OGUL peak, Deadwood is a challenging, scenic and very worthy climb. Highly recommended.

7월초, 8,000피트 이상의 산길에 올라서면 꽃향기에 취해 걸을 수 있어 좋다^^
Deadwood peak, 그 위에 올라서면 Round top, 4th of July lake, Blue lake etc the area of south lake Tahoe의 아름다움과 산세의 웅장함을 모두 느낄 수 있으리라.
It's one of the best hiking!

The 4x4 road to Meadow Lake was closed off so we didn’t get to try it out. The other trail has big boulders in the path. Definitely need a lift for proper clearance. Beautiful area though! Lots of families fishing and swimming. Looks like tons of fun for that!

Definitely a “easy” trail. Not moderate at all. Great Lake and cold swimming most of the year.

Drove it and fished the lakes with my Dad on a camping trip. The only time I was and will ever be in the area. Beautiful area....

Nice easy hike, can also driven or mountain biked easily depending on weather.

we tried the trail on 6/24/17 and there was alot of snow at the top still it was hard to find the trail. One of the run off streams was hazerdous to cross. We had to turn back due to thunderstorms and lightning. We will try again later in the summer after the water settles down, besides that it was beatiful.

Nice views... Nice little flat EASY walk. No reason to be rated moderate. Camped there with my kids and my 4 yr old walked it with us many, many moons ago.

Aug 6th, we camped at upper blue lake campground and hike from upper blue lake to granite lake. Due to the season, the upper granite lake dried and made a wild flower blooming at the shore of upper blue lake. It was fantastic, like a flower fastival. And the hiking from the trailhead to granite lake was mild and easy, but lake was great.
I could recommend this course especially early August season.

I visited Lake Alpine since I was 9 years old at the STOCKTON YMCA camp. I spent most of my summers here exploring the surrounding areas for many years into adulthood. I know this area like the back of my hand.
I snowshoed, crossX skied, explored area before Robert Conrad built his beautiful house behind the "Dead Indian" ridge. Explored areas between Highland Lakes to Lake Alpine. If you look hard enough you might just find my initials on rocks trees. Stayed at Duck Lake Cowboy Camp to wait out a blizzard. I did one 3-day winter survival training session at Lake Alpine.

It was a beautiful hike. There are still patches of snow (July 9), wild flowers, an numerous mosquitos. Beware that the trailhead says Grouse Lake and not Granite Lake. After on the trail, Granite Lake is mentioned. Great hike. Richard

Pretty trail around a pretty little lake. Very easy.

It was tuff but we made it up and back in one piece.

Another great trip to Granite Lake. What a great place to take kids to learn the basics, hone their skills and build enthusiasm and confidence. My 9 1/2 and 11 yr old made their 3rd trip here and they love it. Still pursuing the elusive fish, but the bouldering, day hikes and exploring are great and keep us busy.

I take my blind son (11) and my daughter (9) here very year for 3 yrs. An easy hike with a few inclines that are a bit of work for kids with 15-20 lb backpacks. They do great and enjoy every moment. We stay 2 nights and it is always a blast. The kids love climbing boulders and their favorite part is the river crossing log at the beginning of the trailhead near the lake parking lot.

Moderate trail with spectacular views and a very picturesque lake with options to continue on.

This beautiful hike from near Clark Fork Campground goes steadily uphill with a few level stretches. You may encounter horses. The trail goes alongside Arnot Creet and eventually meets up with trails heading to Highland Lakes and the Pacific Crest Trail. Lots of trees and shade and wildflowers. I wanted a little adventure while staying at Clark Fork Campground, so I took this pretty hike with my 2 dogs. A contrast to the very dry conditions down the hill in Sonora, it was cool, and pleasant with meadows, a small waterfall, and wildflowers in August.
