Crampons VERY HIGHLY recommended for the lake portion of this hike, then snowshoes really needed for the part up towards Mildred lake right now.

Went snowshoeing mostly on this path since I only had two hours before the rental place closed. It was perfect for what I needed and I got most of the way to Horseshoe Lake before turning around. Lots of picturesque stops and places to go off the trail and explore. Can’t wait to come back and explore more!

September 2019. Amazing scenery which just kept getting better as we hiked onward. Hiked in and out in one day - doable for a weekend hiker like me, but most people we passed were backpacking along the trail.

Did this trail as park of a NPS nature snowshoe tour. Great little trail. Very easy. One bit of a steep incline but otherwise easy peasy.

Did this trail from August 25 to October 2, 2019. It was an amazing experience. A great way to get into Yosemite while avoiding their crazy permit system.

Gorgeous trail. Rocky but manageable. Doable with a stock 4runner or Taco, but I wouldn't go with street tires as there are sharp rocks all over the trail. The views are fantastic and the lake is peaceful. A few good camp sites by the lake. Don't go on a busy weekend, trail traffic can cause problems here.

Came on the last days the gates are open to horseshoe lake. Left at 8 am. Made it to rainbow falls by 10am and back to the car by 1pm. Enjoyed a half frozen rainbow falls. Incredible experience. Saw a black bear

Great day hike, even in the snow. We started at around 9:30 on Nov 24 and had great conditions. Lots of shade until you go through Duck Pass. There were plenty of footprints to follow until after the Pass, but then we followed AllTrails to Pika Lake and it was fine. Saw several bear prints at Pika Lake, so be aware! Going all the way to Pika was about 11 miles round trip. Steep incline for a bit to get to Duck Pass but otherwise moderate. Definitely recommend, the views are beautiful!

Easy 2.5 mile hike around the lake. Some beautiful views with the surrounding mountains. The southeast side of the lake has a narrow trail with a fairly steep drop off down towards the lake, so I wouldn’t recommend it for small children.

Skated Heart Lake and was able to play a pickup game of hockey while we were out there. Only the shaded side of the lake was thick enough to skate, but definitely worth the short hike. Fairly gradual incline on the way up; spectacular views from west side of lake at elevation.

Absolutely beautiful this time of year

Well worth a stop on the drive out of Mammoth. Had a blast driving the Jeep through the dirt roads in the area, and the hike out to the craters is nice and easy. The view of the surrounding snowy mountains was spectacular!

Great view and likely a frozen lake depending on the time of year. It was about 1.5” and unsafe for skating when we were there, but others have said that it freezes over at certain times of the season. It was frozen enough to do some hockey passing and stickhandling along the shoreline.

The trail was still very accessible in November. Not sure if you could get away with parking at the start of the trailhead. As another review mentioned, there were some private “no parking” signs. The trail itself was fantastic and offered great views of Mammoth Rock. A few other friendly dogs around as well.

I highly recommend the trail. The trail is a well defined and easy to follow. As a bonus you get to see all three lakes.

Trail is not easy friendly. The map leads to no where. Map want you to cross the stream right below falls and in November....sorry I’m not taking a chance hahaha. You can get some nice pics though. Coming back up my phone lost connection and I didn’t get credit for the hike. Oh well, next summer!

So fun! We are beginner-intermediate and almost all of this was doable. A few little sandy sections, climbs, and roots. I will definitely go back. I love that it’s one way so you never worry about coming head on with someone

Very pretty views on the top ridge. A little to sandy, rocky, exposed in some parts. I tripped several times. It’s not good for running or mtb in my opinion. Nice for a hike-walk other than the deep sand which is a bit frustrating

We tried to go this hike on 11/12 and Minaret Rd. is closed past Mammoth Mtn. We couldn’t get through. Not sure if you can get there on Postpile Rd. this time time of year. That may be closed for winter as well.

Happened to see this trail as we were driving up the mountain. I’m so glad we stopped and hiked to the top. It’s a bit steep but it is short and worth the views at the top!

Absolutely amazing! We took our time enjoying every moment of this hike. Valentine lake is stunning. The trail is well marked and not as strenuous as I was expecting. We did have our dog with us and he did great. Defiantly recommend this trail!

We really enjoyed this hike. Very few people and it was beautiful. The views were amazing. We did find a trail that looped is all the way around crystal lake.
