Just hiked it yesterday with my dog. There is clear trail for about 1/4 mile if your lucky enough to find that section. After that it’s pretty much snowpack the whole way. Lots of postholing. Snowshoes recommended. Pretty much guessing where the trail was and made plenty wrong turns. Ended up following some ski tracks and made it to Barney. All the lakes were still frozen and made for some gorgeous views. Skelton from above was by far my favorite view. Mid thaw, valley down below, mountains to the right, beautiful! The snow made it tough but well worth the effort. Got to watch some backcountry skiers come down one of the mountains above Barney too. Awesome!

Great spring hike near Mammoth Lakes. Gentle incline up to a beautiful lake. Trail is well maintained and easy to follow. Dog-friendly.

Amazing Hiking and swimming

Great trail with outstanding views of the surrounding mountains. The trail was very nice and thare wer pepole fishing the lake. The trail was nice and easy to follow.

Super easy hike, even for a family with kids. Such beauty everywhere you look. Must do, if in the Convict Lake area. It took a lot longer than needed, only because I was taking it all in.

Beautiful hike around convict lake. Easy and well maintained trail.

Fun and easy for any age

Beautiful and peaceful

Hiked the loop Sat 3/31/18. Started on the north side, totally clear until the meadow, from the meadow on increasingly snowy on the trail until the visible avalanche area on the south side, pretty slow going but passable in boots, beautiful day, sunny and clear, love this trail 5/5 year round :)

Nothing to see but the view from the parking lot. You can’t get within 30feet of the creek. Bring your long camera lense.

it was a great hike easy for the kiddos and very beautiful..

Been to Laurel Lake 44 times! Always 4x4! (mine is a Jeep TJ standard) Talk to a Forest Ranger in Mammoth Lakes--Sometimes they have new updates on trail. Arrive at trail beginning "early" say sunrise up to 11:00 a.m. Then enjoy the drive and peninsula on lake. Peninsula is highest place to legally have a campfire! Wonderful fly fishing here! 7 wonderful hikes around & above lake. When driving back down never, ever leave till 2:00 p.m. ! ! WHY? Road is narrow...just a bit winder than your vehicle! No head on meeting! Very difficult to dive backwards with steep drop offs. Only 2 areas to pass each other and far apart. My Activity: 4x4, fishing, photography, hiking, walking.
Best months to go up: no snow. Saturday can be to crowded---new visitors unaware of narrow road!

Great hike even in February. Several lakes at the top.

nice and easy hike! too bad we came in November, otherwise the trees and the lake would be more beautiful in sight!

This place is breathtaking. Seems almost unreal. I will come back again and again - hiked in October of ‘17

Hiked this trail early October. Tough fishing at Duck Lake but awesome scenery.

Great trail, not too steep but not flat. At the end you will find a beautiful frozen lake. Best part is there is very light traffic.

I picked up the trail at the welcome center and went through the vacant campground - the trail is not marked well at all. I turned around and went back.
Eh.

the first mile is pretty much uphill on soft drift/sand. it starts of at low elevation and as you climb you get higher and higher. I only made it 1.53 miles in and had to turn around to meet a friend in town. but the last half mile made the first mile worth it!! some ice and snow on the ground. so watch your step.

Hike is so worth the constant switchbacks (which did seem like forever but it ends I swear!)

Beautiful easy hike! Highly recommend

Hiked about 2 miles past Sherwin Lakes. We used this hike to acclimate to the area before doing a much longer hike the next day. It was a beautiful hike on this Fall day.

easy trail, great views

Very beautiful in fall, easy hike~

One star because you suck at the internet?

Trees were in full fall color. Great trail with plenty of lake access on the southwest (?) side.
