The fissure is right next to the parking lot and it only takes a few minutes to walk around it. However, it’s worth your time as it’s an interesting example of the volcanic activity that shaped the area.

Easy hike for beginners through pines and firs. The craters are an interesting example of recent volcanic activity (around 500 years old) with beautiful turquoise water at the bottom.

Great hike. As others have pointed out, the bridge is gone. A local we ran into said it hasn't been there for decades. As of today, it looks like it will be a long time before the creek is passable. Massive rushing water. But still a great, beautiful hike. Quite a bit of elevation gain. If you want to get away from the Convict Lake loop crowds, you can take this up as far as you'd like and then just turn around. Total hike time for us from the Convict Lake parking lot to the washed out bridge was about 4.5 hours round trip.

Free overnight camping/parking/tenting...hot spring tub is small maybe 5 people can comfortably fit. Beautiful view of mountains. During the day there is no shade. Road to get to the hot spring is well maintained, gravel. Little messy going into the hot spring to park. But super doable even for a little car.

No AT&T service. Lots of people fishing. The views are drop dead gorgeous! Part of the trail is paved and part is dirt. Absolutely beautiful hike. half the trail is in shade. There is free public day parking.

Nice trail winds up mostly sunny hillside and into Sherwin Lake. Very crowded, likely b/c Lake Mary is still closed so hiking options are limited. Also get some engine noise from motocross event nearby.

I would turn back at 1.5 miles. after that the trail becomes lost and intersects several forest roads. if that's your thing, then go for it.

really cool geological features but I wouldn't call it a hike. it was more of a lazy stroll

Nice hike. No snow on the trail. crowded. Good for dogs. In the sun for part of the hike. Buggy if you go down to the creek.

We hiked up to the point where the bridge has been washed away, couldn't get past the river unfortunately.

Did this loop 2 days ago. Beautiful, crowded of course for Father's Day and wet. If you don't mind carrying your kids and small dogs and getting your shoes wet, this was a nice hike. The water is about a foot deep at most on this part of the trail.

A good trail to walk with you dog. We had a great time here.

I took this trail in summer 2017 starting in Yosemite valley going toward devils post pile. My fellow hikers kept on to the end of the JMT but this was my intended stop point. This was an absolutely beautiful hike! My first overnight backpacking trip. Quite a big one for a first timer but I was with VERY experienced backpackers. I wouldn’t recommend it to an inexperienced hiker, but I am a very active runner/hiker. Was amazing, beautiful, breathtaking, heart pumping, challenging! Beautiful views. Lots of mosquitos in the meadow, we needed bug nets and lots of repellant and they were still all over us. Saw a couple bears. So beautiful!! Had one in our camp try to break into our food but we had it locked up right in the appropriate containers. There was snow on the passes at that time and it was melting, u could hear the water running under the snow. Several big creek crossings.

Trail still closed for off-road vehicle due to snow on trail but completely crossable on feet with good snow shoes.

Hiked only in the downhill direction. Great views and the bikers were all polite with encountered hikers. Be warned if accessing from the Mammoth Lakes Basin use Old Mammoth Road and not the trails because those trails, although short, have lots of snow and require good boots or poles. However, the Rock Trail has no snow.

devils post pile is so beautiful and quick to hike! it's open seasonal.

June 11, 2019. The lake and trail were still completely covered in snow. This trail map was excellent in helping me walk in the snow and stay on the totally hidden "trail". No footprints to follow, no signs in trees, just my skills and this app! For safety, I wore snow boots with Ice Trekkers and used trekking poles.

Hiked a week ago with my family and found to be a pleasant uphill climb to the lakes at the top. The best view across the lake occurs a little after reaching the lake off the trail to the right. There is a rock sticking out of the water there that you can hop onto for some great photos. There is still snow behind the lake on the mountains but almost no snow on the trail. I imagine by now it is completely melted. We also saw many dogs off leash, and so it seems to be a local dog walking favorite.

We hike the loop around Convict Lake on June 12th. There was only one patch of snow left on the south side of the trail, nothing to be concerned about. But, right before the boardwalk around the half-way point of the loop (if you're hiking counterclockwise), the creek either has shifted or expanded from its usual route and is flowing over the trail. It's probably from the extra snowmelt recently due to the warmer temperatures. But be aware that to keep your feet dry you'll have to walk across a makeshift "bridge" made of a branch and then a 4x4 beam to get to the boardwalk. Either bring hiking poles to help you keep your balance or be prepared to have wet feet.

Our family loved this trail! It's a mix of dirt and snow (early june), but can easily be walked through even with regular shoes. Views of the lake and mountain are breathtaking. I suggest starting your hike from the parking lot and NOT the marina as you'll hike in the shade then hike back towards the marina with the sun on your back and not your face. :)

Looks beautiful, but closed as of early June due to excess snow. All roads leading to the lake and others around the area are closed. Will open when the snow melts. Check conditions before going.

Hard to find the turn for the parking lot off the main road(no signs), but once we did it's an easy short drive to a lot with restrooms. Easy walk down to the fault. For June there was still big piles of snow, but it can be easily walked on or avoided. It is amazing to see the fault and you can walk around the entire fault on all sides to get nice pictures and views! Not too long to hike (2 min walk).

the loop around the lake is 3 miles if you start at the trailhead down below the lake it's a 3. 6 Mile loop

Short hike, not to much elevation gain, some beautiful views. We were unable to attempt Valentine Lake as the snow was too deep. Hiked 6/10/19

Super great for the first 4 miles! The last mile to the lake had TONS of snow and it took us about 2 hours to finish the last mile! Enough room for 3-4 tents at the lake and a beautiful view! Definitely very difficult with the snow incline but a great experience!

5/8/19-Great hike, but only made it to 4 mile point, where there was too much snow to continue to Valentine Lake. We hope to come back in August to see it. Rest of the trail was clear. Highly recommend. Sign up for all trails and pay to download maps so you can see where you are on GPS. It’s pretty cool to be able to tell exactly where you are at all times and for staying on the trail in those areas where it’s difficult to find.
