Where the trail ends the real fun starts : boulder jumping and climbing, canyoneering....

Intense yet beautiful!! Worth every step of the way up!!!

We really enjoyed this hike! Not a lot of shade so I’d recommend going on a cool day. Tracking on Strava it said 6.9miles and 2,028ft elevation gain.

Trails on trails. Good view for the majority of hike

Nice hike, not too difficult but definitely a good workout. The trail is pretty narrow and there's lots of horse poop all along the 4+ miles. Had to keep stopping my dog from trying to eat it. Eew! My dog did get a tick on this hike so use bug spray and check yourself and your furry friends after.

When I went on this hike on July 14th, the trails were poorly maintained. So much of the grass and brush was overgrown that for 40% of the hike you’re walking on a path a foot wide, with plants scraping at you up to you waist. The trails are also not clearly marked. The trail has little shade as well. The view of the ocean is nice, but the majority of the hike is in overgrown grass, and this view could similarly been seen by driving to an overlook. I would avoid this hike.

Beautiful trail, lots to see even on a cloudy day! Split 5 litres of water between 2 fit adults, so don’t forget the H20 and ty to get on the trail early!

You can hike this trail a couple of different ways. At the trailhead you’ll start up a moderately steep incline. Eventually you’ll come to a fork. If you hike this loop counter clockwise, it snakes back and forth up the incline gradually. If you want a real challenge, hike the loop CLOCKWISE. It’s much more rewarding to basically crawl vertically to the top of the point. Once at the top, stop and stay a while. We hiked down continuing clockwise, which was gorgeous as well. Talk about views. Take plenty of water.

Beautiful trail with lots of great places to stop and admire nature! I would rate it a "medium" instead of "easy" since it's mostly uphill/downhill. We will definitely be hiking here again!

Easy stroll. Good to see and hear sea lions.

Great views but it’s a hard trail

The view is so amazing.

Great trail!

Nice views and ocean breezes, lots of bees and active hives though, its a shame it burned up...

Easy hike through nice houses... Disappointed waterfall but then again it's so cal so was expected

Terrific hike. Beautiful ocean views and enough difficulty to make you feel like you had a solid workout. Started at 8:30am on a Sunday and saw only 4 others on the hike. Serene.

Nice trail that climbs up with views of the ocean and welcome cool breezes. The trail is well maintained. Good family hike. Port-a-potties and picnic benches at trailhead.

This is one of my go-to weekend hikes. It gains a lot of elevation quickly, but that means some pretty stellar ocean views and isn't too long. Watch out for poison oak and wear sun protective gear.

Great hike. Beautiful, rather easy. Kids loved it. Not long.

A steady but steep incline up to 360 views from the summit, awesome hike and workout!

The view was wonderful! Loved being in the canyon and seeing yuccas & other wild flowers. The trails are quite narrow with a lot of overgrowth. There were long branch like reeds, that I call slappers, to combat on the trail. So watch out for those, ticks & spiderwebs(especially in the morning).

No shade. Go early morning or cool days. Can't give review of full trail. My dog overheated even in his cooling vest and stopping for water in shade. I def wanna return and see the views without him.

fun hike. free parking lot

Bring snacks and lunch. Beautiful views and canopying trails at times. Green and majestic vistas. Recommend hiking shoes for climb or decent. Amazing and challenging. Wear sunscreen.

challenging uphill climb, rewarding vistas, and cool breeze from the ocean. amazing.

A few nice views of the Coast and Ocean. Not a lot of shade so make sure it is a cool day.

Visiting from SC, this was a perfect loop trail to tackle with my 7 and 10-year-old boys. We loved the ruins, the hollow “slide” tree near the ruins, and the awesome views of the Pacific. Then a quick trip to the beach to cool off!

Amazing trail. Hike to mt Ellen highest point. Beware rattlers.

This is one of my favorite trails in LA since there are so many ways to experience it with it's different off shoots. You can take this lush trail to Balance Rock, Tri-Peaks, Inspiration Point, and to Sandstone Peak which is the highest point in the Santa Monica Mountains! The hike is a decent workout and is very doable with gradual elevation.

Parking:
This trail has it's own trailhead but I usually access this trail from the Sandstone Peak trailhead.
