Love that this trail follows the river. Some rocky spots and narrowing path, but a great walk with kids and dog. many friendly people.

Wonderful hike with a 7 year old and baby carried in a backpack.

awesome loop trail. We brought our dogs several times. Lots of people on weekends hanging out at the river during summer months. Nice little beach on the river half way through this hike. Easy access with parking and a toilet at the trailhead.

First hike with our infant in the backpack, it was perfect and easy. We took our dogs as well, they so enjoyed the dips in the water. We saw one other person with their dog.

Very little shade 90% of the way. The lower valley trail is so much nicer than the new upper loop. It’s easy to get lost on the way back as it’s not clearly marked- you can follow the trail one way and turn it into a 15 mile hike instead of turning around and going back to the trailhead. There are some neat features like an abandon movie set and a nice picnic area where the American River is. We saw a lot of people rafting which was entertaining. River much too fast to swim anywhere near there.

We parked at the Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park. Free parking - Yaye!

We did the whole 12mi hike - it was definitely an intermediate hike. We started at the West Ridge Trail and took West Ravine Trail on the way back (easier path).

Beware: No shade!!! (We run out of water because it was just so hot today -9/1/18. I should’ve brought more water.) We was a lot of horse poop and a baby snake.

The West Ridge Trail leads you to the river where you can see Satan’s Cesspool. There’s no shade there too so it was difficult for my group to eat together.

Overall, it’s a decent hike. I think this is a great trail for spring time.

Very good trail for families with small kids, short and easy, beautiful area. Thank you, Javier Antonio, for hidden dinos, it was such an interesting challenge, we've found just 5 )) There's river access from trail. Please have plastic bags if you have dog with you.

Really enjoyed this hike. Lots of variations in terrain and options for trails. A beautiful breeze coming off the river almost the whole hike. It gets really hot and a lot of the trail is not shaded - so even if you get an early start it is probably better for a fall/winter hike. Bring plenty of water. Lots of poison oak in parts. Trail is also used by horses and mountain bikers so you need to be on the lookout.

Awesome trail, just right for my 3 and 5 year olds. Took our time and spotted quite a few (more than 1, less than 15) hidden dinosaurs! Such an awesome idea, kept the kids engaged, exploring and excited to see around the next bend.

I’d definitely do this trail again. I’m a novice at mountain biking so some of the climbs were difficult for me - ended up hiking up some climbs. I’d definitely go back! Maybe during rattlesnake hibernation season.

This was our families first little hiking trip and we absolutely had a blast. I have a 5 year old and 4 month and we all did this with a breeze. Very Easy.
The drive in was fun, very winding roads. Free parking. Nice spot halfway through by the river, sandy area to have lunch. There is also random picnic tables along the trail.

Great for Kids! little dinosaur toys along the trail. Would be a fun tradition to place a new dinosaur somewhere special. Definitely will come again.

Excellent spring hike. The trail end at the river is a great place to picnic and recharge. Very clean, hikers were of all ages: dogs and horses too!!

Great network of trails out here! I could spend a whole weekend just buzzing to and fro. I noticed a connecting trail that will take you to Folsom Lake... very excited to try that out soon!

Nice trail, hit it early! Gets pretty hot in the afternoon.

Best place to hike in winter, spring and fall. Too hot in summer

done this hike often with dog. great hike only issue is not a lot of shade so extreamly hot in summer.

Great place for a family hike!

This a great trail for kids, dogs, families, wheelchairs. Wheelchairs are accessible on the side of the trail closets to the bathroom. You can not take a wheelchair on the complete loop. Great river access. Always peaceful & quiet when I’ve been out there. You will find dinosaurs hiding along the trail that are not meant to take home but to move along the trail. It’s a great way to keep the kids interested in the hike without complaints.

Quick and easy hike that takes under an hour. Checked it out to test the new dog on hikes... will return for leisure strolls often. We found a dinosaur hidden in the cracks of one of the rock walls and only then because the sunlight was hitting it just right. What a funny little treat!

Fabulous trail. Beautiful varied terrain that ranges from flat meadow lands, to rolling hills, to a spectacular view. Grades are not too steep. A lovely hike for fall/winter/spring, but I imagine it would be very hot in the summer.

Great day hike. Trails are well maintained and easy to follow. Lots of options to explore. A beautiful mixture of oak and pine forest, rolling foothills, and the American River.

Perfect hike for kids. We were able to go down and play in the river in the middle of our hike. Well maintained and very easy to follow. Clean bathrooms.

Great hike. Many trails to select from. Trails are well maintained. We took the Up and Down trail and ended up at the American River. Weather was perfect for hiking, but might think twice if the temps were over 85..not many trees to protect from sun.

Great little hike for spur of the moment exercise.

This hike was gentle enough to go on with a child. Felt like a camp trail including intresting rock formations, trees, flowers and the river. Definately bring your fishing pole. Looked like there were some old buildings in town. will definately be back to explore those in the future!

Perfect trail to take the kids, easy and short. A couple of great spots off the trail to sit and enjoy the river or jump in to cool off!

Perfect for kids. Easy terrain. Interesting things to see and nice break in the middle at the river where you can sit under some shade and get your feet wet. I brought my 3 young kids and dog and had a great time. Bonus, there is a bathroom and garbage can in the parking lot.
