This trail is grossly unkempt. We didn’t enjoy it as much as we thought. The overgrowth and the stacks of leaves to trudge through took away from enjoying the beautiful oak trees. June 2018

I have run & walked this trail. One of the most beautiful trails in the county. I was really struck by the rocky coastline and the wild flowers. The trail is not as well maintained as the Bluff Trail, but that is part of its charm. On the first leg there is beach access. There are is a large cave to check out and beautiful rock formations at low tide.

The land is owned by PG&E. You have to sign-in at the trailhead and sign-out when you leave. In the spring/summer it is open 8-5:00 pm Thursday-Monday. You have to be back at the trailhead by 4:45 pm and they stop allowing people in at 4:00 pm.

Breathtaking bluffs. Easy walk along the cliffs. we did spot 2 snakes, a rattlesnake and another beautifully patterned one.

Nice leisurely walk for the whole family. Ocean views, sometimes a little windy, so bring a jacket.

Montaña de Oro is one of my favorite places in SLO County (and thus far on the planet). The Bluff trail is one of many in the vicinity. It has a parking lot on both ends. It is wide, well-used and gorgeous. There is a network of smaller trails that allow you to come closer to the cliffs. When the tide is out, there is a wooden staircase that takes you down to a small beach a little ways down the trail. I recommended going to nearby Spooner’s Cove and to the Spooner’s old ranch home. It is now a museum. It has a small store, some photos of when the land was still used as a ranch and is a recreation of what it may have looked like when the family still lived there.

This trail was well marked and had amazing views. In the spring there are beautiful wildflowers. We went on a Sunday and it was busy. Lots of hikers and trail runners. The views are spectacular especially with the green lush hills after rain. The ocean views can’t be beat. Be careful of ticks and poison oak along the edge of the trail. It was abundant when we hiked it. Lots of small and larger poison oak. There is quite a climb but the top of the peak has amazing views. Well worth it.

Excellent family walk. Lots of great ocean views. Play at the beach afterwards. Pic nic .
This seems to get busy on the weekends. Come early. Good parking and bathrooms.

There is no reservation required. There is a check in booth, they limit access daily so if it’s nice out come early. Good parking with bathrooms.
Very easy trail, recommend for kids. The first 2 miles is perfect for the kiddos.
No dogs !
After the 2 miles it inclined to windy point, there is a porta potty at the 3 mile marker.
Lots of great scenery, beautiful coves, rock structures.
You can definitely spend the day in this area. Pic nic at one of the state park beaches up the road.

This trail has a gravel base path which is even good for strollers. But foot paths branch off all the way along the coast providing fantastic close up views. Access down to tide pools and inlets provide even better access.
This hike is more about sightseeing than real hiking. it is like one big Big Sur "turn out". Beautiful.

Lovely wildlife of various types, easy access with benches throughout and we saw egrets with their babies feeding! Absolutely charming

Always beautiful, a well-maintained walking trail on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Beautiful views, options to turn off to different loop patterns, surf access at a few points. Don’t miss this one!

Fun hike with beautiful views. We walked to Disney/Fat Point and then back to the beach access where there was a cool cove to explore. Not many out today, so it was very quiet and serene.
