First mile very strenuous. Highly recommend the Black mountain trail off of Rhus Ridge

Its NOT dog friendly, as described. We arrived and had to take alternate trails. Los Trancos is specifically no-dog.

Good climb. Views aren’t stunning, but beautiful enough

Good elevation gain to start. Down hill is moderate and easy on the knees. The final section is along a creek. Look for banana slugs!!

No place to park unless you want to pay $10. Not worth it for a 2 mule hike. Try nearby Arastradero Preserve instead.

Could not find free parking.

I was able to do the beginning of this trail but the meat of it is closed due to the storms this past winter. The trail is completely gone and not walkable anymore.

But there are plenty of other hikes in this park, lots and lots of trails. As the other reviewer pointed out you are supposed to be a Palo Alto resident to use this area but there's nobody at the gate during the week.

Walked this one in late May and the creek was quite full (it was a rainy winter). The second part through Elephant mountain is definitely less interesting.

This hike is hard, rather than moderate, mainly due to the steep, long, climb to Black Mountain. On a clear day the Bay views are fantastic.

Apparently you have to be a resident of Palo Alto to hike here. lame

harder than I thought. Not too long, but it's not easy for my dad. We did it anyway.
