Not too bad of a hike, but no way to really walk down to the hidden lake and no real maps of you get turned around. It was nice and serene though.

Perfect last minute “hike”. You walk along the looped road but there’s a small incline off the road on the far side of the lake that made for a nice detour. There’s also tent camping and picnic tables on the trail that we didn’t know about, going to have to look in to that!

Other than the trail being a bit challenging due to all the sand. It's a quiet, beautiful and peaceful hike.

beach closed from March 1- September 30.

Nice easy, flat trail. No shade. Good for families. Dogs are allowed.

The trail is now closed.

Tried to hike this trail. Was stopped by military on ATVs and told that this area is off limits unless you are connected with Vandenberg Air force Base. This trail is on VAFB and is military property.

Easy trail. Good for a lunch break

Loop and see some of the historic mission. Wildlife. Easy walk. Lightly trafficked, bicyclists, runners, moms and sometimes horseback riders. I believe you have to pay if you park inside? You can park on the rode side where it has the “no parking signs.” Everyone seems to park there.

Asphalt paved bike trail.

It's easy walking and good for a run too because the trail is wide. Rangers patrol the trail so safety was no concern.

There is a lot of nature on this trail. I always see deer, rabbits (which seem rare in other areas now), and plenty of birds and snakes. It is a flat and peaceful hike

Beautiful trail, moderate. You will pass a couple old cars left out there which was interesting. Small steep hill about a half mile in and a small incline back. This trail was pretty well marked but it does narrow in some places near the lake just be cautious of poison oak and bug repellent is a must. We hiked in April and I made the mistake of not wearing. Mosquitos and ticks were apparent. Was able to see the lake but could not get to it due to the marsh around it. Took an hour and half to hike it around. Nice quick hike to get in, I wouldnt recommend small kids under 8.

beautiful place to walk around and tour the history of the mission. been coming here for years. the park hands can get a little aggressive from time to time. just ignore them. I come for the nature experience not the people/volunteer experience.

this is my beach! 10 min drive and we are there. it's a limited beach front due to Air Force Base property but seriously is more then enough room to enjoy. Lompoc is cold and windy almost all the time (at least when the beach is open) so crowds are rare. dogs need be on leashes buuuuuut you'll see that locals run free most of the time. I love Surf Beach but I wish it stayed open year round but because if Snowy Plover migration they close the beach in the summer months which is a huge bummer us locals have been dealing with for years.

Park closed due to flooding. Went around the corner to surf beach. Easy sandy walk up or down the beach.

More beautiful than I expected! I went up to the cross, then at a Y in the path after the cross, I went left and eventually reached the trail marker where you can go up to Santa Rita Mesa or, as I did, go left toward La Artesia. There was another fork after that where I went right and ended up going down steeply to the access road and back to the mission. Don't know what the distance was, but all the sand made it seem longer, I think!

Great! Lots of fun. I took the trail that heads up to the cross (great view of Lompoc Valley - trailhead just passed visitor center) then kept on the trail passed the cross. Eventually following the fence line and heading up on Rita Mesa. Very sandy (beach like) trail past the cross. Some decent hill climbs all on sandy trails makes for a good workout! Take plenty of water and maybe a snack for energy. Stayed on the trail and ended up on an access road for an easy walk back to the mission and start of trail. Fun hike! About 4.8 miles or so on my route. Felt like more because of that sand! Got pretty windy too around 11:30am. Good hike! Really recommend it! Just far enough away from civilization to feel refreshing but not really that far away!

The lower loop is a good warm up track, the upper loop add another mile with a few hills. There are water towers you can walk to as well off the lower loop a steady up hill road.

Easy trail. Excellent for beginners. It's beautiful country and has plenty of wildlife around. If you're a bird watcher... it's a must do.

One of the best places in the area to train on ur mountain bike. The Full trail is about 9 miles. I map it out when i did it. To te green tanks in the back to the 3.8 miles circle on top by the rangers station

I mostly walk the lower trail with my dogs. It is always beautiful, and it is quite an easy walk. We hike in from our home, the back way. The dogs enjoy the quail, rabbits and other critters we see, and of course, once in the Mission building area there are pigs, turkeys, cattle, etc. to see (for me) and smell (for them). I highly recommend it.

La Purisima Mission is very interesting from a historical perspective and it is a peaceful, shady place for a weekend picnic. The trails go through the surrounding chaparral, with hot sun and deep sand to make hiking a challenge. If you go in the morning you have a good chance of seeing some wildlife -- deer, rabbits, and birds, and maybe some horned lizards in the sandy places.
