Definitely scenic! You have to go before high tide or you’ll get trapped between the rock and water. We walked the full distance to Point Conception, but there isn’t a way to access the light house or the church. You can see it from below, but if you plan on walking there, you have to drive a ways to see it. Not a lot of people walking on the trail with you. Take plenty of water with you. The breeze was amazing as were some of the views. Also, the terrain wasn’t that challenging. Just a nice walk.

Not too bad of a hike, but no way to really walk down to the hidden lake and no real maps of you get turned around. It was nice and serene though.

Perfect last minute “hike”. You walk along the looped road but there’s a small incline off the road on the far side of the lake that made for a nice detour. There’s also tent camping and picnic tables on the trail that we didn’t know about, going to have to look in to that!

I did not see any cliff-side trails, only no trespassing signs. So I ended up parking in Jalama Beach Park ($10 for a day pass), and hiked the shore line. I hiked in April on a weekday and had the trail almost entirely to myself. I saw tons of wildlife, including birds, tidal pool creatures, and a lazy sea lion. I had dry sand the whole way, but would have felt more comfortable if I knew the tidal schedule. There are a couple of choke points along the cliff if the tide gets high enough and it's a long hike. I chose to walk close to the waterline where the sand is harder. You have to scramble around some rocks at the points. I also walked along some of the concrete barriers in one area where the waterline was right up against it. I hiked a long way, but didn't make it to the lighthouse so I don't know if there is a shoreline trail that takes you up to the cliff and lighthouse. Nice views, nice breezes, and I had it all to myself. Note that dogs are allowed on leashes, but they charge extra per dog you bring.

Other than the trail being a bit challenging due to all the sand. It's a quiet, beautiful and peaceful hike.

beach closed from March 1- September 30.

Nice easy, flat trail. No shade. Good for families. Dogs are allowed.

The trail is now closed.

Tried to hike this trail. Was stopped by military on ATVs and told that this area is off limits unless you are connected with Vandenberg Air force Base. This trail is on VAFB and is military property.

Easy trail. Good for a lunch break

Loop and see some of the historic mission. Wildlife. Easy walk. Lightly trafficked, bicyclists, runners, moms and sometimes horseback riders. I believe you have to pay if you park inside? You can park on the rode side where it has the “no parking signs.” Everyone seems to park there.

It's easy walking and good for a run too because the trail is wide. Rangers patrol the trail so safety was no concern.

There is a lot of nature on this trail. I always see deer, rabbits (which seem rare in other areas now), and plenty of birds and snakes. It is a flat and peaceful hike

Beautiful trail, moderate. You will pass a couple old cars left out there which was interesting. Small steep hill about a half mile in and a small incline back. This trail was pretty well marked but it does narrow in some places near the lake just be cautious of poison oak and bug repellent is a must. We hiked in April and I made the mistake of not wearing. Mosquitos and ticks were apparent. Was able to see the lake but could not get to it due to the marsh around it. Took an hour and half to hike it around. Nice quick hike to get in, I wouldnt recommend small kids under 8.

love the views... and the history

very short hike but beautiful scenery

just like everyone else, the money involved to enjoy this one is getting out of hand. saying that, the trail itself is beautiful, and it's always worth the trip out here.

several alternate routes to explore, but the main route is always fun.

beautiful place to walk around and tour the history of the mission. been coming here for years. the park hands can get a little aggressive from time to time. just ignore them. I come for the nature experience not the people/volunteer experience.

I've been coming to Jalama for years and year after year I watch the prices for entry go up and up. they don't charge you to park if your going just to have a Jalama burger (Which are locally famous) but they charge you to park then they charge you for your dog. so because of this we don't visit as often as we once did. I understand the $ goes to helping keep the park clean etc... but ALL parks I feel are getting a little ridiculous when it comes to admission... especially for the local folk. I love my CA beaches and it breaks my heart that most of them are becoming so pricey to visit.

this is my beach! 10 min drive and we are there. it's a limited beach front due to Air Force Base property but seriously is more then enough room to enjoy. Lompoc is cold and windy almost all the time (at least when the beach is open) so crowds are rare. dogs need be on leashes buuuuuut you'll see that locals run free most of the time. I love Surf Beach but I wish it stayed open year round but because if Snowy Plover migration they close the beach in the summer months which is a huge bummer us locals have been dealing with for years.

Fairly easy sand/rocks along beach trail. A must during really low tides with lots to see around the exposed reef. Great for kids and dogs to explore.

Park closed due to flooding. Went around the corner to surf beach. Easy sandy walk up or down the beach.

Beautiful Central Coast spot, but $10 to park and $3 per dog.

Not a hike at all. It's a walk along the beach. The Rangers were convinced that there's never been a hiking trail here. We made the most of it and had fun, but it was not what we expected. Never made it to the lighthouse because of the tide. Did a total of 7mi rather than 11mi. Not recommended for hiking, perhaps camping or beach time. Parking is $10/car.

More beautiful than I expected! I went up to the cross, then at a Y in the path after the cross, I went left and eventually reached the trail marker where you can go up to Santa Rita Mesa or, as I did, go left toward La Artesia. There was another fork after that where I went right and ended up going down steeply to the access road and back to the mission. Don't know what the distance was, but all the sand made it seem longer, I think!
