Most phenomenal trail in Yosemite in my opinion! We hiked it at peek season in late July and we only passed 4 other hikers along the way, it was extremely remote, empty and just beautiful. The trail begins through meadows with streams of which we recommend taking off your boots and socks or they’ll be soaked as there is no crossing for the streams - this part of the hike with wildflowers and a mountain overhead was like a fairy land. The views at the top were extremely vast with lakes and mountains all around - it was like a grassy moonscape, we felt so free. If you continue after the mono pass sign around a rocky hill there is the most incredible view of the Mono Lake and Eastern Sierra desert 3000 m below. Outstanding

I did this hike on 10/26/2019 and I was not disappointed! The first part of the trail is easy to follow and nicely shaded, the rest of the trail is pretty much exposed.l, but worth every step! The views at the top are stunning and breathtaking... this has been the highest peak I’ve reached so far and I couldn’t be any happier. The hike is short and steep, but easily doable with rests in between.

Very difficult trail. Took me two hours to do just over. 2 miles the elevation gain is a lot in just a short period making for a very step climb and harder to breathe. I had to turn around just shy of the summit bc my head was pounding in pain with the more elevation I gained . Going back is better and a lot faster I would wear shoes with good traction to help with the down hill scramble . Beautiful hike . Give yourself lots of time . I run marathons and this hike was tough for me

Fairly easy trail and only saw a few people hiking later in day. Would be interesting to do an over night trip and do some fishing on the back lakes. We went around the western side of Saddlebag Lake and counter clockwise for the loop part and came back on the eastern side of Saddlebag Lake. Some sections are shaded but mostly its above the tree line.

So so so beautiful. We went on a November weekend and saw 4 people all day. A dozen beautiful alpine lakes on the same relatively easy loop, creeks, hills, forest, fish, mule deer. Amazing trail.

Interesting historical trail to do off season when you can't do a real, big hike

Short but TOUGH. Trail completely disappears once you reach the saddle, if you follow the "obvious" trail it peters out in thick scrub and takes you up a hardcore talus slope. When the GPS tells you to veer off the obvious trail after the initial incline mellows out, do it. It'll take you up to the trail through the talus and make your hike a lot less frustrating. Also, there's a false summit at the top, so don't be fooled! Basically straight uphill from the trailhead, with a short breather at a saddle, then straight up again to the top. Inclines at times at around 60 to 70%. The whole trail is above 10,000' so unless you're a sherpa, probably going to be a challenge as far as the oxygen level goes. Fun, challenging, and an amazing view of multiple lakes, peaks, valleys and beautiful forests up top.

Total distance is more like 9 miles, but this is a really great hike! The trail was washed out in certain areas, so look for the little rock piles somebody has left behind to mark the trail. Went counterclockwise and it took me about 4 hours. Involved some scrambling (maybe because I got lost and went off trail a few times) and make sure to wear boots as it’s very rocky.
