It is a steep trail but worth it once you reach the top and hang around the lake.

Great morning hike. Started at 8am, cool weather, water crossings low. A little warm heading back down with no cloud cover but very enjoyable, moderate hike

Great work out for my wife (of 58 yrs), 2 Labs & I. Stream crossing mishap nearly ruined our day, but the last 3/4 mile into YOST was amazing.

Trail is easy to follow except a couple of stretches where you need to look out for cairns. Trailhead is right beside Tioga Pass entrance to Yosemite - check with a ranger for conditions.

You need a permit from a ranger station to overnight backpack this trail. You also need a bear can to stay overnight, which you can rent from Ken's Sporting Goods in Bridgeport for $3 per day. The permit can be obtained the day of your hike. This hike is absolutely gorgeous, there is plenty of water so bring a filter and don't carry all your water. This hike has quite a lot of incline heading up to the pass, but it's pretty gradual. Mosquitoes were relentless so make sure you have bug spray if you will be sitting still near the lakes. It was harder than I thought it would be and look a lot longer so be prepared to get a good workout with a lot of ups and downs and plan a lot of time for this hike.

Though it’s not a ‘fourteener’, Mount Dana definitely provides an ample challenge. This peak is hard, if you attempt to maintain a consistent, fast paced - you will feel it. It’s a great trainer peak and then some. The trail head starts at the Tioga Pass ranger station entrance. The amount Dana Meadows area is beautiful with scenic lakes and lush pines. Once you leave the trees about a mile in, the grade increases and you are exposed as with most peaks in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Unlike other summit trails, the Mount Dana Summit Trail has minimal switchbacks. What does this mean? Essentially it’s straight up, about 2800 feet of incline over scree and loose shale. The trail nearly disappears about 800 feet from the summit so you have to eyeball a route, but the summit is in view most of the final ascent. There’s a lot of wind exposure as well. From the top, the views of the Yosemite valley are breath taking. Wearing my Garmin Fenix5 w heart monitor strap I burned nearly 2700 cals in 5 hours covering just under 6 miles. Mount Dana is a workout so be prepared!

I lost the trial because of a snow pack but it was beautiful

Did this trial the day it opened, July 1st. There was still quite a bit of snow making it more difficult but definitely worth it! 360 views at the summit.

This is hands down the best view of Tuolumne Meadows and the high country in Yosemite looking South from the Gaylor Lakes.
