Enjoyed myself driving this trail and think if you are in the area you would also enjoy it.

Nice hike but may be challenging for younger children because of length and some steep terrain. Beautiful scenery and a well marked trail. I would like to hike this again in the spring when wildflowers are in bloom.

Beautiful hike with great views of the lake. Mild changes in elevation. Starting on the more northern route, the trail is much more shaded, and as the trail turns south it opens up with beautiful views. The trail follows the road back up to the parking area marked on the map. Great afternoon hike.

This was a nice easy hike, although we did encounter some mosquitoes in the beginning, so be sure to have some repellent as they seem to be friendly creatures! Some nice views of the lake, and you could see the smoke in the air from the Carr Fire.

I enjoyed the hike this trail provided. Being close to the lake make sure you spray yourself with insect repellent

Cool walk, but trail quality is not all that great

Or would be hiking. I’m sure the trail is beautiful but it’s $6/day to use this area, even with a Recreational Lands Pass (its some kind of special recreational permit). Sorry, but there are lots of beautiful places around here that are free. We got out, got right back in, and won’t be back.

The 1st half of this trail is awesomely beautiful and goes to a stream that runs into the lake in a nice little cove. The next section that goes away from the water and off into the woods is great. The last 1/2 mile+ is pathetic and is on a road uphill back to the TH. The trail is in excellent shape with a few small trees down and a rock that are all easily passed.

The best option for this trail would be an out and back to where the trail turns up and away from the lake shore. If I had done it as mentioned I would have rated it a 5 instead of a weak 4... I'm surprised this trail was approved because of the road portion of the hike.

At the TH make sure to take the fork to the the right with the signage.

Great trail with awesome views... very surprised with the negative review. The trail is very good with clay and rock base and very firm footing with awesome views of the lake. Far better than most... The only possible negative for me was the 1st 1/2 you're hearing the noise from I-5 but the positive is it's very close. The backside of the hike is across from probably the largest fresh water marina I've seen. The main dock was way over 1/4 mile long. Also surprising was how different the growth and type of trees from the north and south side of hike was. I did another trail just a couple of miles away called Waters Gulch. Didn't notice a fee box so hopefully a ticket won't follow me home...

We were only there for an hour. And there was no way for anyone to keep track of the fees. So we ran onto the woods. Beautiful. Probably would be sketchy with kids or older people. There were a lot of lizards on the sunny side. And you’d prob want to watch for other possible reptiles. Great views of the lake. A great trail to stretch your legs on, if your on a long drive. We were traveling back to WA, from CA, and is was right off the freeway. Quick access on, and off. If you have charcoal and food, you could bbq at the pits that are available. Picnic tables and all.

Amazing place

Be warned $6.00 day use fee.
Hike is not worth the money.
Poorly maintained monotonous trail that is narrow, so much so that many times your outside foot is perilously inches away from the steep banks down to the lake.
No shoring has been done to make the trail safe,.
You will be hiking under the Forest canopy with a photo worthy view opening up maybe 3 or 4 times.
We won’t be back when there are so many other safe and free trails with much more to offer.

Enjoyable hike with a large rock blocking the trail. This simple 3 foot clamber limiting passage to able bodied hikers.
The trail is a loop but know that the trail pops out 1/2 mile down the paved road. NOTE: Don’t be fooled with the lesser path heading uphill from the trailhead, this leads to the top of the hill with no connection to the loop trail. You will be backtracking to the trailhead to start again.

Next time we go we are going to start by walking downhill on the road and get the tarmac portion of this hike out of the way while we are fresh. Be warned if you leave it till the end of your hike it is a bit of an unwelcome uphill grind with the sun reflecting off the tarmac. Don’t worry the trail is clearly posted, located at the point where the road widens for the boat launch parking.

Great hike around the lake. Shasta lake was about 50’ down. Still beautiful!

This was a very easy hike. No incline...I would consider it more of a walk but it has nice views of Shasta Lake the entire way.

Great trail with gorgeous views, but hiker beware there is a sign posted regarding mountain lion sitings in the area.

Day fee site (as of Dec 31, 2017 $6 fee cash or check only).

Beautiful hike. Moderate incline. Amazing lake views.

The South side of the trail has road noise for about 1/2 mile and the North side has docks and house boats for the first 1/4-1/3 mile (although in the summer I assume the docks are clear and less noisy as people float the lake). Quiet and glorious views fill the middle 2 miles of the trail.

We really enjoyed this trail today. Easy hike with incredible views.

Excellent trail. The views to the lake are outstanding and it's easy, but not too easy. There are a couple of places where trees fell in the trail, but it doesn't interfere with the walk.

The trail needs some bush cleared and trees removed. It was a ok to ride. The heavy rains of the winter have washed out dirt up to the trail. In need of some maintenance.

It was a beautiful day for a hike! Trail is clear and the lake is full!

Great views and a decent walk. There were a number of fallen trees in the way of the trial and the actual trail will not loop back from where you started but a mile down the road (it is actually more like 4.6 miles in total) so I would not recommend this for smaller children since you are walking on edge of a road with cars for the end of the hike.

Beautiful trail with views of creeks and Shasta Lake. A few downed trees made it difficult with the baby in the pack, but it was doable. We somehow went the wrong way and ended up on a road that had the trailhead sign, but we hike up the road a bit and found our car. I'd definitely do it again!
