Really great views, but be prepared for some very steep hills that undulate up and down consistently throughout the hike. Bring lots a water. Lots of options to cut the loop short and link up to the paved reservoir loop path below if you keep an eye out - a good option if you need some shade and easier terrain.

Not too many people on this trail. It is beautiful there.

Be advised that there is a bike restriction not mentioned in this AllTrails guide. Bikes are only allowed certain hours on certain days apparently up to the whims of the establishment. Not worth making a 1 hour trip hoping for a nice bike ride around the lake. Go to Coyote Hills or Tilden.

Fantastic local hike with great views

Nice hike (loop) from Alhambra Creek station. Partially shaded, wide trails leading up to the lagoons at the top of the trail with clear views across the bay on a clear day. This is a fair weather hike.

Quick hour loop around the reservoir. Nice place to go on a brainless walk.

Great moderate walking trail, completely paved with excellent views of the Lafayette Reservoir. All doggies big and small or leashed. And all of them were friendly. Drinking fountains along the way-clean out houses – benches. Next time I go I will take a picnic lunch, sit to view the Lafayette reservoir.

Great hike! Beautiful! A little harder than expected, some pretty steep parts but few people and beautiful views are worth it! Great for dogs.

Great hike. We went early in the morning to beat the heat (which I highly recommend). Little shade on this hike but not much tall grass so it was great for my pup. Keep dogs on leash at all times, we had some snake sightings.

Did it my friend and were in all wrap coz of little shade. It was a nice area and hilly.

Great for a tough hilly run! The second hill (around 2 miles) is the hardest section, but around that are some great rolling hills

Nice trail, very few people, dog friendly and a couple good climbs.

I run here a lot. great place close to home. love this little trail!

We started from Paseo Grande Trailhead, hiked up to the Jeep Trail, then to the Rim Trail around the Lafeyette Reservoir. The total distance was 5.2 miles but has some very steep climbs. It was a good hike with some pleasant view.

Easy flat 5 hrs long loop around the Briones reservoir. Few nice lookouts from El Sobrante ridge. Be aware of lots of ticks on this trail hiding on tall grasses. Best for early morning before sun heats up the area

Great 2-2.5 hour afternoon hike, especially after all the rain: very green, beautiful wildflowers, great views, plenty of cows, and not too muddy. The lagoons are especially picturesque.

Nice long hike - 5.5 hours. I hiked in the rain today to test out my gear for an upcoming trek. Canopies, views, meadows and a little water fall. Truly amazing. I agree with others that this is a moderate hike vs hard. Highly recommended.

Beautiful hike, low land canyon with a canopy of oaks that rises up to ridge lines overlooking rolling hills. Amazing 360 degree views. Love this hike!

A long but not difficult hike around a massive and beautiful reservoir. nice variety of terrain.

We hiked the Rim Trail here today for our first visit. It was a great workout for me with a few very steep ups and downs. I think it’s best to do this hike before the summer heat since there is not much shade. The green rolling hills and wildflowers were beautiful!

It's a great little oasis in Lafayette. I grew up in the area and always love taking my dogs for walks there (just be aware of other dogs, some owners can be pretty careless). There are plenty of water faucets and bathrooms around the entire trail. Just be aware parking might be difficult at peak times, mid morning and late afternoon.

Hiked this trail on a cloudy day, a day after some evening rain. The clouds made for a perfect hike as there is not much shade along the trail. The rain, however, created quite a bit of mud along the hike which made it more of a upper moderate hike today. Had to navigate around some thick mud and soft footing. Beautiful scenery throughout the trail, from the rolling hills to the cows to the views of the Carquinez Strait.

Very muddy. Saw 25+ cows.

Great trail for an active workout.

great hike. we even kept going to the top of one of the hills. fantastic views to bencia to marin once you get to the top.

Great hike with varied terrain, just enough to push you but not too much to break you. The early peaks (just after the initial elevation) can be VERY windy. Hold on to your hats!

Fantastic views almost constantly from start to finish. A hidden gem. We hiked it at a leisurely/breaking for photographs pace in 3 hours.

First long trail in a while. Finished the 13.5 mile trek in 5.5 hours without much difficulty. This is a lengthy trail but I wouldn't consider this hard, as the roads and trails were well maintained.
Some portions of route do not allow dogs, even on a leash, and we did come across a police officer who asked for our EBMUD permit.

I’ve done this hike the last 2 weekends. Today was a bit windy but the views are beautiful.

excellent trail... challenging enough to make us work some but not so difficult as to be not enjoy overall distance and Beauty. phenomenal views worth the effort.
it is a long Hike and even being fit as well as an avid walker, took us 5.5 hours..... between the views, our own chatting and with others, pictures, snacks and stretching, be. prepared to give the time.
Inclines are there, as are snakes and the trail police so be wary. Don't go without Permit, which I bought and downloaded as we drove to trailhead from Berkeley.
dogs are allowed on parts of these trails but not all, so don't be fooled. lots of horse poop on trial so step carefully and we even finally saw an actual horse.
