Tough with steep hills. Go in the early morning.

Beautiful and lightly challenging.

Peaceful and pleasant morning walk. A bit dusty this time of the year.

Really great views, but be prepared for some very steep hills that undulate up and down consistently throughout the hike. Bring lots a water. Lots of options to cut the loop short and link up to the paved reservoir loop path below if you keep an eye out - a good option if you need some shade and easier terrain.

Be advised that there is a bike restriction not mentioned in this AllTrails guide. Bikes are only allowed certain hours on certain days apparently up to the whims of the establishment. Not worth making a 1 hour trip hoping for a nice bike ride around the lake. Go to Coyote Hills or Tilden.

Fantastic local hike with great views

Relaxing.

Quick hour loop around the reservoir. Nice place to go on a brainless walk.

Great moderate walking trail, completely paved with excellent views of the Lafayette Reservoir. All doggies big and small or leashed. And all of them were friendly. Drinking fountains along the way-clean out houses – benches. Next time I go I will take a picnic lunch, sit to view the Lafayette reservoir.

Did it my friend and were in all wrap coz of little shade. It was a nice area and hilly.

Great for a tough hilly run! The second hill (around 2 miles) is the hardest section, but around that are some great rolling hills

Nice trail, very few people, dog friendly and a couple good climbs.

We started from Paseo Grande Trailhead, hiked up to the Jeep Trail, then to the Rim Trail around the Lafeyette Reservoir. The total distance was 5.2 miles but has some very steep climbs. It was a good hike with some pleasant view.

Beautiful hike, low land canyon with a canopy of oaks that rises up to ridge lines overlooking rolling hills. Amazing 360 degree views. Love this hike!

We hiked the Rim Trail here today for our first visit. It was a great workout for me with a few very steep ups and downs. I think it’s best to do this hike before the summer heat since there is not much shade. The green rolling hills and wildflowers were beautiful!

It's a great little oasis in Lafayette. I grew up in the area and always love taking my dogs for walks there (just be aware of other dogs, some owners can be pretty careless). There are plenty of water faucets and bathrooms around the entire trail. Just be aware parking might be difficult at peak times, mid morning and late afternoon.

Great trail for an active workout.

great hike. we even kept going to the top of one of the hills. fantastic views to bencia to marin once you get to the top.

Lots of rolling up and downs. Path is well groomed but some of the hills are pretty intense

A fair number of elevation changes. One killer hill. Great views of Lafayette Reservoir and Mt Diablo. A shorter, paved path directly around the Reservoir is nice for a leisurely stroll.

Muddy in the rainy season so be prepared with the right shoes, but so beautiful and unpredictable in the right amount! It was a good work out too!! Started on the right side facing the reservoir, at 3:20pm and completed just at sunset.

Started on the right side

We parked at the Bear Creek Staging Area which costs $3 for parking if someone is at the kiosk or it's free to park if nobody is there to collect your money when you drive in.

This hike is a series of trails, so make sure you print out the pdf of the park map to bring with you and compare it to the map from All Trails. Even with that, we still managed to get lost. There is a lot of cow poop along the trail, so you will want to watch your feet so you don't step in any. You will also pass by cows who are near the trail, but they didn't bother us when we went and I made sure to give them space.

This trail made for a good winter hike and there was a bench mid way at 'Table Top' where we had our lunch. There are no significant features along the trail other than rolling hills and a couple small pools of water. I wouldn't take someone hiking here to impress them, but it's a good trail if you want to experience hiking at this park at least once.

I love this run esp around sunrise or sunset. Pretty challenging with lovely views.

Dec-2017: This trail is awesome for hill and interval training. It is accurately moderate for the avid runner/hiker. The trail is dry, not too rocky. The views of the reservoir and surrounding hills are refreshing on a brisk sunrise hike. Not too many people early in the morning, especially along the upper rim, you’ll find you have the trail all to yourself. Except of course, the occasional fox will trot by or flock of turkeys making their parade. Definitely a great local trail to regularly visit.

Upper trail is great with options to go to the lower in many places. Lots of people...

Good easy trail to do with kids and a playground at the end!
