Hiked this trail today with my pup (Sep 15). Great weather and had large sections of the trail where I couldn't see or hear anyone. It felt very secluded and had great views throughout, which I loved. Solid workout (~3hrs/1000 cals) and it had inclines/declines throughout. Plenty of lizards and cows. Bikers and horses on trail. Plenty of parking and $3 park entrance fee. Out in the open for majority of trail. Wear trail shoes or hiking boots.

I’ve walked this trail many times. There are two steep climbs

Don’t underestimate this trail. It is intense with steep climbs which makes for a great workout.

Beautiful hike. Its relatively moderate unless you are running the trail. Perfect distance. Not too long or short. Bring plenty of water and enjoy this gorgeous trail!!

Nice, nearby hike with one steep section. Probably best to go in the early morning and not anytime after it has rained as it would be tough on the downhill.

Definitely a hike to go on if you want some sunshine, some shade, a nice trail with mild inclines and water (reservoir) to see along the way. Not sure why this was rated as “hard”. We’d give it a moderate. You can hike as far as you want, and then go back the same way, tailoring the hike to the length of time you desire. We didn’t do the full hike around the reservoir due to time constraints. Bring water and WATCH OUT for poison oak along the sides of trail.

Tough with steep hills. Go in the early morning.

Beautiful and lightly challenging.

Peaceful and pleasant morning walk. A bit dusty this time of the year.

Nice trail. Shade for about 50% of time

Great hike. Steep ups and downs, great workout. Very well marked. Beautiful views. Well traveled path. Watch out for snakes... there was a rattler in the grass on the side of the path that I nearly stepped on.
50 minutes

Really great views, but be prepared for some very steep hills that undulate up and down consistently throughout the hike. Bring lots a water. Lots of options to cut the loop short and link up to the paved reservoir loop path below if you keep an eye out - a good option if you need some shade and easier terrain.

Not too many people on this trail. It is beautiful there.

Be advised that there is a bike restriction not mentioned in this AllTrails guide. Bikes are only allowed certain hours on certain days apparently up to the whims of the establishment. Not worth making a 1 hour trip hoping for a nice bike ride around the lake. Go to Coyote Hills or Tilden.

Fantastic local hike with great views

Nice hike (loop) from Alhambra Creek station. Partially shaded, wide trails leading up to the lagoons at the top of the trail with clear views across the bay on a clear day. This is a fair weather hike.

Relaxing.

Quick hour loop around the reservoir. Nice place to go on a brainless walk.

Great moderate walking trail, completely paved with excellent views of the Lafayette Reservoir. All doggies big and small or leashed. And all of them were friendly. Drinking fountains along the way-clean out houses – benches. Next time I go I will take a picnic lunch, sit to view the Lafayette reservoir.

Great hike! Beautiful! A little harder than expected, some pretty steep parts but few people and beautiful views are worth it! Great for dogs.

Great hike. We went early in the morning to beat the heat (which I highly recommend). Little shade on this hike but not much tall grass so it was great for my pup. Keep dogs on leash at all times, we had some snake sightings.

Did it my friend and were in all wrap coz of little shade. It was a nice area and hilly.

Great for a tough hilly run! The second hill (around 2 miles) is the hardest section, but around that are some great rolling hills

Nice trail, very few people, dog friendly and a couple good climbs.

I run here a lot. great place close to home. love this little trail!

We started from Paseo Grande Trailhead, hiked up to the Jeep Trail, then to the Rim Trail around the Lafeyette Reservoir. The total distance was 5.2 miles but has some very steep climbs. It was a good hike with some pleasant view.

Easy flat 5 hrs long loop around the Briones reservoir. Few nice lookouts from El Sobrante ridge. Be aware of lots of ticks on this trail hiding on tall grasses. Best for early morning before sun heats up the area

Great 2-2.5 hour afternoon hike, especially after all the rain: very green, beautiful wildflowers, great views, plenty of cows, and not too muddy. The lagoons are especially picturesque.

Nice long hike - 5.5 hours. I hiked in the rain today to test out my gear for an upcoming trek. Canopies, views, meadows and a little water fall. Truly amazing. I agree with others that this is a moderate hike vs hard. Highly recommended.
