This provides a great description of what to expect. The lake was almost full and had some beautiful Birds (Coots) and pretty wildflowers. Well maintained trails and great signage let you know which direction to go (with the help of the app map). A little warm today, though I did start the hike late.

It was a lovely hike. Trail was well marked but not super crowded. Bikes share the trail but they were very polite. Awesome wildflowers about 1.5 miles in and to the vista point at about 3.7-4 mile marker on App. I wish it was a loop

Beautiful hike with many colorful wildflowers and shady much of the way with all the trees. Start early as parking lot gets full as well as the trail. Would love to do this hike again!

Good easy workout. Worth the views.

Lots of great views of along this trail of the lake. Also lots of views of the Truckee side. Loved the fields of blooming mules ears.

Beautiful day! Great hike, but you do end up on a road for the last 1/4 mile. Thanks to the folks that found my phone! You guys rock!

Great hike this morning to top of Martis Peak from Brockway Summit trailhead (just below heading towards KB). Gorgeous views on a gorgeous day.

Lovely mid distance hike. The first 1.5 miles are paved, so it is great if you have a stroller or kids with bicycles. There’s also a picnic table at the lake, so you can take a break or have a snack.

Nice hike. Good and strenuous on the way up, great view, and an easy walk back.

Really peaceful trail for the most part! Snowshoes aren't necessary but I'd recommend them for some parts of the trek. I was not fully prepared so I got stuck in snow in some parts.
If you look at the trail where it splits near the beginning, going left will take you on a road, while going right is more trail. I did this hike in early May so there still was some snow on the ground! It made it pretty difficult to see exactly where you need to go. At this time of the year I recommend going left and staying close to the road.

Very nice trail. I hiked it in April 2018 and most of the trail was snow covered, but it was frozen enough that I did not need my snowshoes. There’s a great viewpoint of Lake Tahoe just off a little trail about 1 mile down the TRT. I hiked to the Fire Lookout and up the last few meters to the summit of Martis Peak. About 10 miles and 2,000 feet of elevation gain, round trip. Make sure you know where you are going when there is snow on the ground.

Nice little hike. Well maintained and marked to cool view. We just saw a few people and some discarded dog waste bags (eww). Otherwise a great moderate short hike.

Great hike/walk. Easy slight uphill to the lake which is darling and currently has lots of water. Lots of shade and lots of trees but not a dense forest so you can see everything around you. 5 paws up according to my dogs.

Super easy walk to Picnic Rock. Great view of the Tahoe basin. Take a picnic and enjoy the sunny view. Good snow shoe hike in the winter. Could be 5 stars but copious amounts of dog poop require constant attention on the trail and detracts from outdoorsy atmosphere.

Great spot. Beautiful vistas. Trail that continues towards Nevada is a bit icy, glad I had poles.

Great hike! Well marked and beautiful view of Lake Tahoe. Good starter hike experience for families with young kids.

The view at the top was worth the hike, even for our kids who are usually grumpy hiking uphill. Lots of families with kids on the trail. The view made for great family pics.

Very nice scenic view with a great payoff at the end with an assortment of large flat rocks to picnic or take in the views. Easily connects to other trails if you’re in the mood to extend your hike.

Nice short walk and great scenery

Great hike for people looking for some exercise but aren’t trying to over do it. Bring plenty water and snacks. Takes about 3 hours !

Great easy/moderate trail to exceptional views perfect place to bring a picnic, thermos of coffee, bottle of wine, good whiskey etc .... and just sit on one of the many flat rock formations at the top it’s a good idea to bring a packable jacket or blanket as it can be quite windy and chilly at the top

Take trail up to picnic spot. Sit on Rick formation and enjoy the views!

Lake Ella Trail provided an exceptional short, easy hike for me and my daughter (Ella) on a fine October day. The trail head is easy to find, with ample parking. The first (and last) mile, all on asphalt, was easy and provided a nice look around to where we were headed. Martis Lake, to the south of the dam, and the Martis Valley served up some nice views. Once we hooked left (east) and started up the main trail in Waddell Ranch Preserve the rest was predominantly in the trees with few, if any, vistas. The grade is smooth and easy up to Lake Ella and well-marked with nicely done iron signs. Lake Ella was a splendid surprise, having never known of it even after living nearby for over thirty years. Although it is also identified on signage as "Dry Lake", this was not the case, and the lake was quite full, no doubt a result of the recent record snowfall the previous winter. There are nice spots to sit, including a picnic table, and overall a quiet scene. On our return trip, we took the "Emily Loop" which took us through the trees on a winding, switchback-laden trail that appeared to have been designed for mountain bikers. It was clearly rarely used in recent times, and in places difficult to see the actual trail. Thanks to the track on All Trails, we were able to navigate the return. One high point was the "David Brown"lookout over Martis Valley just above where the trail turns back towards Martis Lake. Overall discovering this trail made for a great day hike and a wonderful time for father & daughter!

Super easily accessible short hike. Great for a quick workout.

Beautiful, I thought there would be more shade with all the trees. I also would consider this a moderate hike.

Hike to the fire watch station amazing views

Not too busy Labor Day weekend. Handful of hikers, no cyclists. Parking available on the uphill side of 267 if you drive up a very short distance to the trailhead signboard, plenty of space on the wrong side of 267 as well.

I did this trail on 8/20/17. The wildflowers were already gone, but it was still a great hike. I'll summarize the comments I found most helpful:
-This is Tahoe Rim Trail. Arrive early because parking fills up. Make sure you start your hike on the side of the highway heading UP the hill!
-Contrary to what other commenters said, this out and back DOES end with a view (at the turnaround point). You'll know you're close when you start hiking up the very rocky hillside - then will be rewarded with a beautiful view of Lake Tahoe.
-You can turn left to head up the 1/2 mile on Spur View Trail to have a shorter hike and a still lovely view.
-As others said, there is no water source so bring plenty of water.

I hiked this trail alone without poles and found that I didn't need them. There is some gradual uphill most of the way out but it is not so steep that I wasn't able to keep up a good pace. I am sure it is an even more beautiful hike when the flowers are blooming. It was relatively secluded and I ran into very few people after I passed Spur View Trail. I recommend this hike!

Beautiful hike! Trail is well maintained and everyone is super friendly. Mr. Baldy "peaks" at the Mt. Rose wilderness area with incredible views of the lake. The climb up was very gradual - would have rated this more of a moderate hike. I took the Tahoe Rim Trail the entire way there, but there are a few other side roads that will shorten the hike a bit.
