Great for families, just enough of a grade to make it a little bit of a workout, with a great reward at the top.

I think we might have done a different trail when we got to the trailhead lol. We followed the trail that leads east. Nonetheless, it was BEAUTIFUL and there was no one else there on a Tuesday at about noon! Perfect hike weather for us in November.

Relatively easy hike for a group of four. None of us were in the best shape of our lives but the stop at Picnic Rock was well worth the journey.

If you are looking for a long walk through the trees, culminating with a view up top, then this is for you. We did not see any other hikers but we did run into a few mountain bikers.

Great hike. Good for kids and beautiful views at the end!

*pretty unpopulated trail in october- YEY!
*last bit of trail is a road that takes you up to the fire lookout station at the top. Views up there are wonderful!
*bring all the water you'll need- there isnt any on the trail.
*gorgeous views in the last mile and a half!

Dusty but easy family and dog friendly trail with nice viewpoint of Lake Tahoe at top and on descent.

Definitely recommend keeping your GPS open but great hike. Lake Ella is beautiful and I second the recommendation to take Erika’s trail back. Very pretty and change of scenery. Good for dogs, no one else on the trail on a Saturday afternoon.

Great hike!! Got a little mixed up with the map so ending up going an extra mile! Would definitely do it again. Great views!! Great workout. The first 3 miles are pretty much uphill.

Nice way to explore what is east of the airport. Can get a nice view of gliders coming in during glider season. Picnic tables, view of the valley, pleasant.

Mostly in the trees, striking view of the lake from the top. You can continue on to Martin peak if you want.

The dirt trail is narrow. I was running (headphones on) with a bear bell so others in the trail knew I was coming. It helped more than once on my hour run.

The view from top is great!!!! Good hike for anybody

Beautiful

Great hike. Nice elevation climb but not too hard for kids. Amazing views and cool rock formations at the top. I carried by 3 month old in a carrier.

*easy easy.shady.
*beautiful views at top.
*nice get away when you have only a few hours.

*Eric Brandt gives a great assessment of the overall hike.
*the signage was the coolest I've ever seen for trail i.d.

Beautiful hike! The loop seems to actually be an access road where the trail goes closer to the lake, so we stayed on the out and back Tahoe Rim Trail and tracked ourselves a couple of times on the downloaded map. That made it about 15 miles... which was really ambitious since my biggest hike before yesterday was 10 miles. That being said, the incline is very gradual, and other than a couple of rocky patches the trail is very clear, bouncy, and soft dirt. Its worth it right before you hit the end to actually summit Mount Baldy on your left. The views of the lake and mountains around you are stunning. It took us 6 hours to do it in full with a decent break for lunch. Definitely would do it in full if you’re confident you can hike that long.... but if not, the views halfway up are stunning, too! And get there before 10am. There are only about 20 parking spots.

Great hike featuring full views of the lake. However, if you follow the map it seems to abandon the trail completely near Griff Creek (unless I'm missing something). I'd recommend staying on the trail and meeting up with the red trail guide later on. All in all it was 14.4 miles and took us just over 6 hours.

Spectacular views at the top

This was a gruelling climb. the views from the top and cool alpine breeze were worth it. I was surprised how many other people I saw; not a tonne but more than I would have expected. Maybe look elsewhere or go outside of main summer months if you want to be alone.
I continued up to the top and it ended up being 14.6 miles.

great, worth it in the end

Our rating is based on our shortened hike. We only hiked to about the halfway point of the full trail, then turned back toward the Lake Tahoe view spur trail on our return. The forest trails were pretty and easy to hike. The views from the spur trail were really nice. The rock formations at this lookout point were beautiful.

Moderate hike to picturesque rocks with beautiful over look of Lake Tahoe.

Good workout, with a spectacular lake/mountain view at the end. The majority of the trail is devoid of lake views but it’s well shaded making it ideal for hikes on a hot day. Bring a snack to enjoy on picnic rock and if you want to see something cute, pack some peanuts and put a few out for the chipmunks. BTW, Be sure to take the “spur” when you come to it.

This provides a great description of what to expect. The lake was almost full and had some beautiful Birds (Coots) and pretty wildflowers. Well maintained trails and great signage let you know which direction to go (with the help of the app map). A little warm today, though I did start the hike late.
