Great hike. A favorite for sure. Did the regular trail with my 10 year old. Fantastic views throughout and phenomenal from the top.

Fantastic hike with fantastic views at the top

very easy walking ...very scenic.

One of the most amazing hike.

Great little hike with spectacular 360 views! Watch out for the rattlesnakes though.

good distance, beautiful hike

This is a great hike. Going up through the 5 oak trail on the way up is the best. Great views from there too plus it is covered most of the time. You get to see both sides of San Diego mountain peaks. Very comfortable hike. A must see hike for sure.

Gorgeous hike! One of the most scenic and pretty sight I’ve been in San Diego...awesome 360 view of mountains and Cuyamaca Lake at the top! Make sure to start early (we started around 7:15am on a Saturday) cause Peak doesn’t have room and can get crowded as soon as people start coming in! Park across campground and pay $10 for parking fee. I would come back again!!

The only reason I am giving it a four stars is the traffic. Just so many people. And just rude. No trail manners at all. If you don’t wish to hike with loud rude people the best hike elsewhere.

On the other hand, this is a great little out and back trail. Don’t do it in the summer as I’m sure it will be much to hot. Towards the end you do have to make your way up the granite rocks so bring a buddy to help each other. I’m 6 ft 7 inches tall and recorded 92 flights doing this hike.

Beautiful 360 degree views at the top, so bring your camera.

Had a great time hiking Volcan mountain today, the grade is pretty steep but some well placed tree canopy’s provide some shaded patches through out. Highly recommend, the view from the top is well worth it

Took 5 oak trail to summit. Good hike and good views. multiple outlook points at summit and during hike!

Stunning view! Fairly easy hike. Nice views on the way up too.

Amazing view! I’d recommend taking the Five Oak Trail which makes the hike a little longer but there are more beautiful views that way

Beautiful views

One of my favorite hikes in San Diego. Love the view and some fun rockclimbing

good little hike with great views from the peak.

Loved this Trail especially for the views at the top. The switchbacks made for a pretty smooth hike.

Closer to 5.2 miles if you take the five oaks trail on the way back. Elevation gain is significant but there are shady spots to rest and the views at the top are worth it!

Great little drive-by type "get out and stretch your legs" type hike. We were on route to Joshua Tree and needed a break. Awesome views on the way up, superfantastic views at the summit, and another set of terrific views on the way down. This trek just keeps on giving! Just do it!

I’m actually not ready to rate trail yet (I haven’t hiked it til tomorrow), BUT, I have to say that it is not what most people would consider near Julian, CA (despite this listing saying it is).

Sure, it’s 25 miles straight line as the crow flies, but it’s about 43 miles and 1 hour drive through the mountains to get there from Julian.

Lovely, easy hike. Not too steep, really nice views. A little muddy due to snowmelt, and a little windy at the peak, no real worries though. The campground at the start provides nice bathrooms n parking.

Amazing views! Love this trail!

Beautiful and peaceful views. I wish I brought a book to read at the bench at the top!

nice hike close to Julian. great views from up there.

Easy hike with 360 degree views. Nice spot to sit and lunch.

wonderful hike. the trail head has a water station and the trail has lots of educational signs that are great for hikers of all ages.
the skies were clear so we could see the Salton Sea to the east and the ocean to the west.
not a single person on the trail!
wind chill was a definite factor, got pretty cold at the top but so worth it!

It is end of February and my dog and I loved this wide and well maintained trail. First time my dog saw and got to play in the snow. It was windy and cold at the top. Beautiful views all the way to the ocean on one side and the desert on the other.
