Great hike. A favorite for sure. Did the regular trail with my 10 year old. Fantastic views throughout and phenomenal from the top.

Fantastic hike with fantastic views at the top

very easy walking ...very scenic.

good distance, beautiful hike

This is a great hike. Going up through the 5 oak trail on the way up is the best. Great views from there too plus it is covered most of the time. You get to see both sides of San Diego mountain peaks. Very comfortable hike. A must see hike for sure.

Beautiful hike and well-maintained. Plenty of Cattle and Squirrels to photograph. Easy hike, great for pictures.

Had a great time hiking Volcan mountain today, the grade is pretty steep but some well placed tree canopy’s provide some shaded patches through out. Highly recommend, the view from the top is well worth it

Took 5 oak trail to summit. Good hike and good views. multiple outlook points at summit and during hike!

Fun hike, not to hard. We were the only people. The mine opens up after you crawl in. Cool old crashed car nearby.

Amazing view! I’d recommend taking the Five Oak Trail which makes the hike a little longer but there are more beautiful views that way

Beautiful views

Closer to 5.2 miles if you take the five oaks trail on the way back. Elevation gain is significant but there are shady spots to rest and the views at the top are worth it!

Amazing views! Love this trail!

Beautiful and peaceful views. I wish I brought a book to read at the bench at the top!

nice hike close to Julian. great views from up there.

wonderful hike. the trail head has a water station and the trail has lots of educational signs that are great for hikers of all ages.
the skies were clear so we could see the Salton Sea to the east and the ocean to the west.
not a single person on the trail!
wind chill was a definite factor, got pretty cold at the top but so worth it!

It is end of February and my dog and I loved this wide and well maintained trail. First time my dog saw and got to play in the snow. It was windy and cold at the top. Beautiful views all the way to the ocean on one side and the desert on the other.

Definitely a good workout!! Hiked with dogs. Not one other person on trail!! Park is super clean Trails well maintained!!

The hike itself wasn’t too complicated. Views are awesome. Definitely worthwhile considering it’s a loop, that can cut into other trails. Hiked in the winter. Would love to see how pretty it is in the Spring with all the new growth.

Such a beautiful hike and some amazing views from the top!

Great trail but can get very windy at the top! Take five oaks trail on your way down. Fun trail! Amazing views. Worth it!

pretty views but didn't feel safe on trail. when we got almost all the way down there were bullet holes in all sorts of items propane tanks and other metal objects.

Good quick hike! Great views on a clear day from the top!

Great trail if you’re looking for a fast and visually appealing hike. The mines were so fun to explore!

Beautiful view and lovely nature.

Great short hike with excellent views at the top.

This was a really cool hike! Worth checking out!!! It was hard to find where the trail started, you have to walk down a “private” driveway to get to the trail head. Enjoy!

Very cool hike! The private property signs were a little nerve wracking, but I listened to the other reviews and kept going. Glad i did! the mine was very cool and other remaining structure was fun to climb on. Didn’t go too far in the mine because the dog wouldn’t come in, but what I was able to check out was awesome and a little spooky.

Lovely trail with great views. The uphill climb is no joke - I found this to be pretty strenuous but maybe I’m just out of shape... lots of shady places to rest, thankfully. Bring your own water and bags for your dog if you have one. Water/bags not provided at trailhead.

I'm not an avid hiker although I enjoy it very much (I need to make time for more of it. 2018 goal!). I would've considered this moderately strenuous though. The uphill trek was rocky and steeper at some areas than expected. highly recommend a walking stick and sturdy hiking shoes.

The view was beautiful! the marine layer was covering the ocean, but the perspective of seeing many mountains in SD County is breathtaking.
