7.5 miles Parking is super easy and not that crowded and the trail is really nice and is not uphill, the last 0.25 miles is all in sand which made it harder but we ended up in this little pocket of lush greenery. If you want a solid day trip up from the SoCal area definitely worth it. It was cool and breezy the day we went but I could imagine it gets hotter during later in the day started at 8:30 and not that hot out.

Hiking

Easy trail in the higher elevation Upper Covington Flats area of JTNP. Cooler temperatures for summer hiking, and without all the tourists in the main sections of the park. Some of the largest Joshua Trees in the park, along with a great view of the Coachella Valley at the end of the trail when you reach the crest of the Little San Bernardino Mountains. An added bonus of some free n and easy dirt roads to reach the trailhead parking lot.

We hiked this in January of last year after some heavy rains and really enjoyed trekking through streams of cold water. The vegetation changes as the hike progresses and some of it is tall enough to offer some sparse and infrequent shade. Can you find the couch rock? We did. The end sported a small body of water and off to the left a bit, a very small waterfall.

A very beautiful trail with great sights and rocks! Be careful it's easy to lose the trail, sometimes it's washed out by the floods. Overall good hike! Bring plenty of water!

Beautiful Joshua trees and other desert life. Pretty flat hike towards the rocky hills that have shade trees for a picnic lunch. Trail is usually lightly populated… Always a plus

What a great surprise to find water moving through the area near the end. The hike is easy to anyone in good shape. Most of it is flat but you can explore and scramble if you like. There are dozens of areas off trail to explore. There are many creatures along the way including ground squirrels, rabbits, lizards, birds, and believe or not found red spotted toads in the ponds.

Really nice hike to such a secluded spot. The second half can get tricky so check out the guide and video on HikingGuy com.

A straight easy walk but walking in sand makes it a little more challenging. No shade at all. Completed in 2 hours. Would rate this as an easy walk.

Took Boy Scout trail to Willow Hole - there and back. We pulled into the trailhead parking lot at 7:45 am on a long weekend Sunday. As it was, we got the last spot available. Most of the cars were probably for overnight renters as the trail was fairly quiet. This is a very leisurely walk - not strenuous at all - but very beautiful in the early morning light. Plenty of dramatic terrain and vegetation to see. We even saw a family of Bighorn Sheep (with a baby!) traipsing through the rocks. The trail ends abruptly at a rock formation. We climbed it and had a great snack and water break while surveying our surroundings. The walk back was quite fast and progressively busier as the day approached noon time. Will plan to hike the entire Boy Scout Trail next time as that is our usual length. (I give it 4 stars, my husband gives it 5).

Very nice simple trail! The scenery was fantastic and there was nothing effecting the trail. The trail is nice and wide. It dead ends like in the route but you can walk around and explore.

Beautiful trail. Spectacular rocks and vegetation. Even on a beautiful Sunday it was only lightly used.

Would recommend this trail but wouldn’t mark it as difficult. It’s longer yes but it’s straight. Had a lot of detours to check out the snow.

More of a nature walk than a hike because it’s so flat! Regardless, there’s no shortage of great views, and we really enjoyed seeing all the flora and fauna (we saw a raven eat what looked like a desert wood rat, which was pretty interesting). We couldn’t do the last half mile or so today because of all the melting snow creating a makeshift river, but it was nice to climb up on the boulders at the end and watch all the water rush by. Pro tip: Bring binoculars if you want a closer look at people climbing the huge rock formations. Fun!
