10 mile loop starting at Woodside and going up the fire road. left at water tanks to North trail then merge back to central trail before hitting the prairie trail down the mountain. mostly unimproved fire roads. downed trees. fun downhills. the final leg near the coast is super scenic.
overall average... major long uphills early on diminish the initial fun but the way down is great.

The tough climb at the beginning is worth it- gorgeous views :)

Very beautiful views and lots of different scenery!

Loved this trail! Very refreshing and beautiful!

LOVE this trail. We definitely recommend taking Pomo Canyon first and come back via Red Hill (great views of the ocean and also avoid some rocky uphill) scenery changes often so there is always something to see. Many places to stop and eat/rest. Took us about 3hrs with a lunch stop and many picture breaks!

free parking across street at shell beach. entrance sign is small. AMAZING HIKE. walk through forests, shrubbery, hills, and fields. The scenery changes. lots of little spots and side trails for breaks or reading. beautiful view of ocean and Russian River. great workout coming back up the canyon. bring hats and cover for the Red Hill portion. check wind conditions.

Wonderful day hike. Views to Point Reyes. Birding Paradise.

Such a beautiful hike and what better than to end at the beach?! It’s a moderate challenge but it def gets your heart beating!

Love this hike! Park at the beach (free), walk back to the road and the trail starts across the road. Hike down into the canyon, with a steep ascent back out. Beautiful views overlooking the ocean on the return. Can do it in sneakers but hiking shoes best especially after rain.

Pretty wooded areas, happy the weather was misty otherwise would have been too hot out the open.

Really good Trail, began hike at 9am and pretty much had it to ourselves. I would recommend to go to Pomo Canyon first and then loop back to Red Hill. The views were amazing, being able to see the ocean, Duncan Mills, Jenner, Russian River. Would definitely recommend. It took us about 3 hours including a couple stops.

Moderate. Took about 3.5 hours including a break for picnic lunch.

Always something new to see and so many different terrains. Many ancient and amazing trees right on the path.

Beautiful views of the ocean, Russian river and redwoods. Good for trail running, lots of hills but not too steep.

Used to Ab dive and do parts of this carrying gear...

This was an area we use to dive for Abs

Used to walk this down to fish decades ago. Beautiful area I miss. Used to ab dive just above here as well...

I really liked this trail because it's very diverse. I dont know much about bird watching, but there was a lot of bird action going on which was really impressive.

Fabulous trail that gives views of redwood forest, rolling hills and ocean. Got some great views of wildlife too: lots of hawks, lizards, bunnies, voles, and a snake! The Red Hill trail has more incline than the Pomo Canton trail, so I recommend going out on the Red Hill when you have more energy. Lots of incline so good for a workout!

So many cool rocks! Was a stunning walk/hike! Definitely plan to go back here!

Fun, varied trail, but definitely moderate, not hard.

This trail DOES NOT have any ocean view or access. There is a trail across the street however. As for this trail...it is just ok. A pretty walk in the woods. Nothing outrageously beautiful, but not totally boring. A fair amount of bugs, so bring spray. Very easy hike with a few hills.

Definitely a more moderate hike, but solid nonetheless with great views of the ocean and some nice redwood spotting's through some lusher forest area

So. Many. Bugs. The good thing was the trail is well maintained. Make sure you have $8 for parking and note this trail has no views of the ocean... there is an adjoining trail that takes you to the ocean across the street.

My favorite trail, but don't listen to the rating. This is moderate.

Beautiful views the whole way, everyone should do this hike.

not hard but does have a steady incline for the first 1-2 miles followed by nice view of the mouth of the Russian river to inspire you to continue on. moderate exposure so bring cover/ sun screen. A few amazing moments with redwoods and firs are sure to be had but keep your elbows in when the trail narrows or you'll be grazed by poison oak. you can turn right toward red hill to just stay on the loop but i recommend going out and back the extra bit to the redwood groves. the view of the ocean at the end definitely makes it worth it and best to give yourself enough time for the hike down to the beach after. plant species include coyote brush, coffee berry, firs, tan oak, redwood, scrub oak, coast live oak....

Fun hike, in and out of lush greenery. Great ocean view. Good beginning climb, easy after that.

Amazing views of the river and ocean! The hike was not extremely difficult, but I'm a newbie for it's worth. I will definitely come back.

Nice trail with great views. Steep near the canyon side but lots of shade in that area. Watch for poison oak!
