This was a good trail, it was pretty easy but the hills gave me a good sweat. it was pretty hot today also in the 80s and there really isn't much shade anywhere although we did find a few spots. The terrain goes from dusty dirt to pavement, it wasn't too bad. Overall it was a good workout and there is a good view dorm the very top of the trail.

It is good beginners trail and has restrooms.

Nice afternoon hike with the family. Definitely would come back.

Walked here with a good friend a while back. Good a nice warmup.

Great trail; hiked the whole 10 miles in and out. However, I'm not sure why it's ranked easy. All of the different trails that make up this trail are marked moderate. The incline change is 1410, which is greater than most of the other moderate, connecting trails. I would classify this trail as moderate.

Fun hike. Great climb.

I wouldn’t consider this for a hike. If you want a nice walk it would be good as long as you’re okay with walking on a bike path between neighborhoods.

Free parking.
But the pavement part of the trail is closed. Many hikers jump the gates. Safe.

Lot of kids play sports in park ..nice to watch

Great maintained trail if you feel like going for a nice run. Not terribly difficult but if you're looking for a hike with nice views this isn't the best place but offers a nice view of some hills, residential, dry...wheat, cacti, some green shrubs on one side, and a golf course! They also have something called turtle rock but I didn't see it. In terms of wildlife... I just saw spiders that looked like skulls, didn't get much closer to see haha. There's a few bridges you can cross that are nice but other than those there's no shade.
In any case, great run, a little too easy for a hike.

Nice walk and talk loop through a meadow and around some creek beds.

Nice mix of urban (near roads and housing tracts) and wilderness. I only went about half way, from Quail Hill to Turtle Rock community center, and back. Nice, pretty easy hike. I would go back with my dogs, on leash, of course!

Great trail with adequate inclines. Beautiful sunset from the trail. Dirt and asphalt trail which is nice. Bathrooms available by the Quail Trail Loop entrance.
Beautiful walk!

I was expecting more of a hike. This is just a walk on a dirt road next to a street with lots of cars. If you want to pretend like you're in nature, but never actually step more than 20 feet out of a neighborhood, then this is the place for you. If a kid on a tricycle can ride up the path, it's not a hike.

Convenient with just a bit of shade and nice bridges to walk over

Wednesday, April 06, 2016

It's in a private community.

I parked in the park parking lot. Walked behind the new construction for about 25 mile. The initial hill was the most difficult and steepest. I'm in no way in good shapes but made it up the hill with only minor huffing and puffing. I thought the hike was beautiful. You get great views of Irvine and could see all the way to Palos verdes. Some incredible homes back there too. All in all it took me 4 hours and 10 minutes to complete. I walked approximately 10 miles there and back. The hike is 90 percent double track with the initial part being a single track. I added 4 photos.

Pretty but more of a beginners route.

The path was clear and easy to follow. Had both paved and dirt paths. The views were great and if you start at Shady Canyon you can walk all the way to quail hill, do that and add miles onto your hike before you turn around to go back.
Scenery was beautiful around dusk/sunset!

Quail Loop was an easy hike, not really much to look at but still it was good exercise !

I really loved the views whilst on this trail! It was a moderate hike for me, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Just watch out for bikers and joggers!

road biking
Wednesday, November 04, 2015

If this is an easy hike it has to be the bottom part of the canyon. The hike up West Fork would be categorized as hard. The first .5 mile is on Bommer Meadow which is gravel double trail with a gentle incline. The next .6 mile is on Nature Loop which is the same double wide gravel trail with a similar gentle incline. The return .4 mile would be along the side of Bommer Canyon Road on hard packed dirt. Then walk out on Bommer Meadow completing a 2 mile hike. The asphalt road and Bommer Canyon Community Park are gated and fenced and only open for special events. Hikers are not permitted to use the roadway.

I truly enjoyed hiking the trail this morning. It's a well kept trail with plenty of natural Southern California nature to enjoy. It does have some moderate hills, but like it is said "what goes up, must come down" which can lead to relief. Contrary to the trails name, "Shady Canyon trail" there is absolutely no shade, so I recommend one brings a hat and lots of water; especially, if one brings their 4 legged child. Looking forward to running this trail next weekend. Happy trailing

Good for walking with pets or biking. This is not for hiking
