Not particularly beautiful and poorly maintained in sections. I don’t regret going, but likely won’t go again.

Worth the winding ascent to be flanked by the Pacific Ocean to the West and Lake Cachuma to the east. Saw many native lizard species and some insect species also. The switchbacks have some loose sand as it is currently quite dry in the area, but otherwise a very straightforward hike and I would say more "Moderate" than Hard. We were completely alone with only Mother Nature for company. Lovely! Highly recommend (but bring bug spray)

Road up is closed. Don’t even try it from the Refugio side.

One of my favorite areas in Santa Barbara / Goleta. Gorgeous bluffs and then an easy descent down to the beach.

The monarch trails in the forest are currently closed because the trees are dying. Check the butterfly grove website.

Lovely ♥️♥️ Miguel y yo

The path was partly fire road going counterclockwise then narrowed to single track most of the way until you got to the peak. The peak was worth the constant “are we there yet?” feeling though. After the peak it was a wide fire road all the way down. Bring lots of water. Easily went through 2L as it was 80* and full sun. The views on Trespass trail are amazing!
No port a potty at the trailhead. Bring $2 for parking fee.

El Capitan is a large campground but the most of the camp sites are well spaced a part. This is more of a walk along a paved bike path rathern than a hike. Great ocean views along the ocean bluff. Part of the paved path is closed but you can bypass by going down to the beach. Best if you go during low tide as there isn't a lot of beach to walk on at high tide.

If you love hiking the Trespass Trail to Gaviota Peak is by far one of the best hikes i have completed this year. It is not overly strenuous for the average hike although the last half mile to the peak is certainly grueling. I'm not sure how many times I asked myself we must be there, right? But the trail is very enjoyable, lots of true hiking experiences, many different things to see - fields, oak trees, rock formations, the ocean, other peaks, etc. It is not boring at all. The Wind Caves were a nice break in the climb up, and I highly recommend the detour to the Tunnel Overlook. It reconnects with the trail to the top and provides some great views. We took the fire road down which was fine, as we saw the sunset at the top so it was dark. I would think that the fire road up is arduous, great exercise, but by no means a true hike. Going down it was non-stop descent, so the reverse would be true. We did not visit the hot springs as it was dark.

This trail should be noted as closed Majority of trail is overgrown and the campground is not maintained. Ascent to Happy Hollow Campground included countless washed out sections of trail with serious exposure as of July 28 2018.

it's beautiful when it rains. the right amount of light hits through the trees and the stream to your side keeps it from being too quiet. it's a bit short but perfect for having a picnic at the base

Beautiful hike! Quite steep in some parts but relaxing in the caves with a view of the ocean was the best part.

it's a different hike. you can start either from the top or from the bottom. Good views but I have seen better. We saw few deers at the end which was rewarding. The drive is nice and tricky.

Cool hike! Caves are neat. I would say kid friendly if 6 or older. 4 year old had trouble with the steep parts. My two year old got a shoulder ride once we were off the paved path. Short hike but definitely moderate due to steep trail.

Did this in July 2018. This is more of a trail walk - very fun and easy. I did this today in the early evening, and it was beautiful and not crowded.

Pros:
- Beautiful views of the lake.
- Mostly flat.
- Plenty of street parking.
- Many different paths available to help not get bored with doing this multiple times.
- Not too crowded during the week.

Cons:
- Not much shade.
- A lot of overgrowth on some parts of the trail that I wish I had worn pants.

I am in no shape of form a hiker. This trail was supper fun and I brought my 4yr old with me and she handled it like a champ. I definitely felt the burn during the hike but it was doable and I had a blast

Beautiful hike especially when done in April. The mustard flowers coat the small valley and hills and it becomes very scenic with the ocean as the backdrop. The caves themselves are interesting but not mind-blowing. The hike itself is pretty enough to do it though. Unfortunately some of the rocks are tagged with graffiti.

nice hike beautiful hot springs

Beautiful. Well maintained. Variety of trails.

Family friendly hike. Sad we can't take our dogs anymore. Beautiful caves and views.

great trail! We started from the west side, a more gradual climb. Beautiful scenery!

Awesome hike! Nice wind caves. Wish there was more to hike.

Nice trail. Only saw the ropes course from the mountain not along the hike.

Love it . An Amazing view. This is my second trail in Santa Barbara and I can say the best few I have had for now ;) I can see so far ... I even think I saw LA ;) just one detail , if you start the trail start it from the left side - it’s harder bd you are really feeling that you are hiking . Because on the way back it’s just a regular road

Trail is OPEN as of 06.06.2018.

Nothing technical or difficult but gets hot with very limited shade for the majority of the hike. Nice views from the top.

Went up the “hard way” and had to make our way through tall grasses and some brush as the trail isn’t well maintained. It’s doable though and there were some amazing views all the way up. Came back the “easy way” to complete the loop.

Beautiful hike , steep , short, worth the time.

Not easy for beginners! But a lot of fun!

Well maintained and beautiful views - was easy to make it a lollipop loop out of it instead of an out and back. Nice vert
