Awesome trail but recommend trail shoes with spikes if u want to go up to tower. Found a beautiful old tree with stones welcoming you to come near it

A decent hike. We did it clockwise and I would say that it’s more than moderate!

excellent views.

Basic trail. Sound of freeway all way long. But not crowded at all.

Our group started at Beaudry Lane behind Oakmont Country Club, and we hiked to Tongva Peak and back down. 6.3 miles, 2.5 hrs., totally exhausted and happy. The views of Crescenta Valley were special all the way up, and there was enough shade here and there for rests.

Great for the sunrise. Amazing views from the top and on the way down (I went counterclockwise). For a stretch you hike down the gentle backbone of one of the mountains and get amazing views of LA and the canyons. Saw a bobcat in the am by the entrance/river. Followed Justin’s recording and didn’t end up straying from the path. On a weekday hike not very crowded. Not much shade. Trail is varied—some scattered rocks, some packed soil, some river runoff and fire trail. Overall a great hike

With the fog coverage and recent rain, the hike was lovely, but I wouldn't suggest it in midday heat. It's a goat hill, so do some bird watching from time to time to increase enjoyment. Lots of scrub jays, mockingbirds, and others. The view of the valley was outstanding... You can see Sylmar to Glendale. I wore running shoes, and my feet are sore from the rocky terrain. All in all, very rewarding.

Best trail I’ve been on.

Nice little loop, very picturesque. The trail is a generous single file width for most of the way. The inclines are mild and the distance about 2 miles, making this more of an easy hike. The biggest downside is the noise from the sports complex that it loops around, but it's such a pretty trail that it didn't really bother me. I was impressed with the less common chaparral and unique flowers.

This really is an in and out trail with the option of going back a different way. The scenery was pretty homogeneous, and the trail a straight line to the top with little variation in incline. I went on a hot day and had to duck under a tree to get reprieve from the sun, otherwise the only source of shade is at the end of the path at the top. I appreciated the trail mostly for the exercise and the solitude as few others were present on the trail.

Amazing views of the Crescenta Valley. You definitely need hiking shoes for this one, and poles will help those who need some extra support. Much of the trail is very rocky and you'll be stepping on lots of stones of all sizes. I did this on a cool cloudy day so the sun wasn't much of an issue; but yes, most of the trail is unshaded. Not alot of traffic on this trail either. If you don't like heights, you might not like this trail. Much of the path on the ascent is narrow and follows a ridgeline. Watch your footing!

Easy trail with view and sounds of soccer fields and freeway.

I liked it, interval type trail. Up flat down flat up etc. There were 3-4 inclines that we’re pretty steep, recommend hiking boots/shoes with support. Nice view of downtown LA and verdugo hills

Nice views from Tongva Peak, but the trail up there is a dull, unshaded slog up an old road grade. Taking the North loop up (ie anti clockwise) is less steep.

we did this hike a while back and there wasn't a lot of shade but when you get to the top you can see Glendale Burbank and the whole Crescenta Valley

Early morning. With 2 dogs. Very nice facilities at trail head. Rocky trail. Bring trail shoes or boots. Narrow single track trail. Spectacular views of Crescenta valley. Only about 40% shaded. Might be better to do at dusk. Steep. Med to hard climb.
Overall a fun hike!

Went up the North Side and came down the South. The loop takes about 2 hours and change. Beautiful views of the surrounding areas.

Decided to do this trail and read the reviews about it being more than 8 miles. It definitely is. Some of the trail isn’t marked super clearly so I ended up 2.3 miles away from my original parking spot doing this as an out and back to the peak.

I would say this is on the harder side

The trail was amazing and so much fun but definitely not 8 miles - I tracked 9.7. I decided to take my pitbull and was smart enough to bring more than enough water for both of us. But had I known it was about 10 miles, I wouldn’t have brought him along. If you decide to bring your dog, please bring enough water! I ended up drinking nearly two liters while he drank almost four liters. Still an amazing hike and would definitely do it again!

loved the views from this trail.

If you're looking for a moderately difficult trail, you've found it, I hiked from the North side it's 2.1 miles all the way up to the stone bench and it was a steep climb, I left at 5 PM with the sun above my head and thankfully there are trees to keep one cool and it does help when you have a 1.5 liter of hydration pack I got to the top in 2 hours it takes most advanced hikers 50 minutes. I then hiked down from the South side to take advantage of the sunlight before arriving down to my car which took me a little longer than normal as I was hiking with a few club members. All in all it was a great experience, which I would love to repeat a few times a week, it's a great exercise if you want to shed some pounds off.

Hiked the left side of the loop on the way up. Got to the top in 3 hours. I didn’t need a map or gps. Not bad for a novice like me! Great trail with awesome views! I will definitely do this hike again!

Beautiful views of Glendale, Burbank, and downtown L.A make this hike worth it. Going counter clockwise or right at the fork is a little bit easier uphill.

Great hike with lots of pretty wildflowers late April and May. There's zero shade so it's best to go early morning or night hike. Parking is very easy too. The hike itself is a great steady workout. Oh, watch out for fire ants. My dog got bit by some of them and was in great pain for the rest of the day.

This trail was awesome! I came up here early on a weekday morning and still was surprised to see a good number of hikers. The trail is fairly open but there was a nice breeze and bits of shade throughout as it was still early morning. This land is very inspiring and quite serene. There is a tree shaded area at the dead end with a bench that was perfect for a nice chill, music making session, and morning meditation.

I vlogged my hike so you can check out the trail ahead of time!

I also put together a playlist of music for hikers to bring on the trail :)

The peak of this trail is really steep and slippery. Had to take it very carefully down to avoid falling and sliding. Someone gave me bad advice on how to come down and I injured myself. Careful!

This is a decent urban hike, more man-made stuff than nature. (Fellow pet parents: Please scoop the poop!)

What makes it interesting is that it reaches the high point in the San Rafael Hills, giving you a different vantage than you get in the San Gabriels or Verdugo Hills, for example looking down into the Rose Bowl.

By no means a "destination" hike, but it could be an interesting add-on to another hike in the area, to give you a different perspective.

Tough, but enjoyable hike! The loop is 5 miles in total and you go straight up for 2.5 miles. The peak offers views in every direction and the hike down the mountain is even more enjoyable. Took me about three hours to complete and wasn’t very busy on a Sunday afternoon.
