Date of hike: 6/2/20, 5:15am-8:30am Depending on the route you take for the trail to the top (there are multiple ways), it’s definitely not for beginners. Very steep inclines for a majority of the trail. Took about 70 mins to get to top (w/ frequent stops for rest), the way down went quicker but still slow due to having to be careful for decline. There is some shade on the trail, but not the whole thing. Beautiful sights, will definitely be doing this hike again.

Date of Hike: 02/23/2020 ~ 9AM-11AM This was my first hike of the year and also my first time here. It was definitely a challenge for me. The incine was no joke! I had to take multiple breaks just to catch my breath. I already wanted to give up a third of the way up but kept telling myself I wasn't going to quit til I saw what the hype was all about. After many water breaks later, finally made it to the top! The view was well worth it and the weather was nice and cool at 67°F that day. Would like to go back in the Fall or on a cooler morning. I wouldn't recommend this hike in the Summer unless you're going super early in the morning, like right before sunrise. Would rate it between moderate to hard level hike but that's because I'm so out of shape. You'll definitely get a good workout in and your heart rate pumping quick so be ready.

This is fun MTB point to point trail from Millerton recreation area to Welbarn trail. The ascent starting at the Millerton recreation area is pretty steep and rocky. I had to walk my bike up for part of it but the rest is ride-able and super fun. Bring water and gps as there are cow trails which are easy to mistake for the trail. I had to double back a few times.

Completed on 5/30/20. Great trail! The hike up is pretty steep & the climb to the top is rocky. I would definitely recommend to wear shoes with a good grip & possibly trekking poles.

This is a nice, easy trail for young kids. We had a blast, even with the warm weather. Decently shaded throughout the trail. The reason for the 4/5 stars is the amount of trash observed as well as the graffiti. It's unfortunate people mistreat the trail in that way.

Start in the AM! I like to go finegold to gorge.

Beautiful trail best done early in spring as it gets quite hot by May. Lots of mountain bikers. Easy and fairly flat in the beginning with huge elevation gain towards the end. To note. Would rate as moderate to hard depending on which path you take. You can take the path to the left which is less steep and not a straight shot up. Climbing up the peak can also be quite rocky if you chose the shortcut (otherwise there is a paved path to the right that whips around).

Very difficult for mountain biking unless you have a lightweight aluminum bike hardtail. One of my older trek hybrid or Giant hardtail bikes maybe but you also need reinforced tubes because there are many rocks on trail some large and sharp. Had to walk my bike up a lot of Rocky slippery switchbacks. Cow poop is EVERYWHERE. can slow down your bike ride unless your willing to plow thru it. Seriously. Cow poop for miles. I got shouted at by some young dumb drunk boaters. Boaters will also try to physically touch and harass the cows I saw it happen. I IG kred th r loud boaters and their entitled butts went away. Will use my camelback next time because excess water is necessary Trust me on this. Little to no shade available.

This will get ya heart pumping real quick! Still a very nice hike.

An easy trail with lots of little spots to stop by the water. I was picking up trash along the way and was pleased there wasn't much to collect. Plenty of shade while walking. A good place for artists to do landscape drawings.

Great trail to hike for a days hike. Pretty steep at some points, but worth the push. Had our 9 & 11 yr old sons with us as well as our 12 week old pup, all made it to about 3/4 of the way up from my guess. Didn’t wanna push the little wuppers too hard on her 2nd hike.

Easy out and back hike. Good for kids

Lots of loose gravelly inclines/declines. Recommend a hiking stick.

The upper trail is very difficult to follow, I recommend just use the lower trail.

Awesome workout. Definitely moderate or even slightly harder for beginners. The trail starts off easy but then picks up to a steep hill. At the beginning, there are 2 trails (right one is more of an incline, and left is slightly easier). once you get to the steep area, you are almost there!:) Right before the last section of the "steep area" there are again 2 pathways. the one staright is steep and rocky, and the one on the right, is easier:) Be careful throughout the entire hike, dirt can get slippery!

Can anyone tell me why this is listed as CLOSED? Is there no way to get to the trail head because of pandemic?

Awesome if you are looking for a short hike or trail run that’ll get your heart pumping when you get near the top, it has loose rocks so be carful. Once you get to the top, it gets pretty breezy and cold.

Park was closed due to covid19, however everyone was going around the gates and walking down to the river. We drove from Merced to go to another trail to ride horses that ended up being closed as well. We drove past this one and thought, why not?! The trails were definitely made for people on foot as there were some low hanging branches. Our trail got cut short because of one we couldn't go around. Nice lil ride though. Was some spots with river access to put horses feet in. Im sure if they were open we wouldn't have been allowed in, so thank you covid19 lol.

Hot day - pretty exposed trail A swim was very refreshing though! And w this lockdown, no boats - including the drunk boat drivers maneuvering dangerously. So the gorge is much quieter right now. Wildflowers still gorgeous but a little bit less spectacular than last week so we are passed the peak of their prime time

Fun for a corona virus house escape. Others on the trail were respectful of social distancing and the weather was great.

It was beautiful. We went for the sunrise and it was perfect. Definitely gets challenging with the rocks on the way down, but totally worth it.
