This was a beautiful hike. I saw birds, pelicans, rabbits and deer on this trail. The gate opens at 8am for cars but you can park further away if you want to start earlier like I did. No lizards on trail and I was totally ok with that.. There were a few hikers early in the morning which surprised me. No dogs allowed, so leave your furry friend at home.

Great hike! A bit steep a half a mile from the top - great workout! Took us around 3 hours in total.

Very nice trail for beginners. I took my 9 year old son who’s a novice and completed the trail in 45 minutes at a leisurely pace. Not too crowded with nice view and evening breeze

High elevation I’m tired as hell! Only got 2 miles in

Very nice hike. My calves burned pretty good. The view at the peak is amazing. Definitely go early in the morning because it will get hot and bring plenty of water as there are no water sources during the climb. Some of the trail has loose gravel so coming back down, you have to be super careful not to slip. Well worth at least doing once

pretty dry, but a nice difficulty

The Hike: Moderate hike with some tough sections at the beginning and closer to the peak. Starts off with a steep incline that continues for a mile and then it gives your breather for about 1/2 miles. Back to incline again but it isn't as bad until the last 3/4 mile to peak which is very steep. Coming down it's all downhill, which puts considerable stress on your knees so take that into your prep.

It's better to go early in the morning if you are going in summer. There is a unisex accessible rest room about 2.5 miles from the trailhead.

What to bring: I didn't need a jacket because it was too hot in July. Proper shoes are recommended because of gravel and down hill hike coming back. Take water and snacks.

Parking: Drive uphill passing open parking lots to find the parking garage closest to the trailhead. You can park for $4 all day (weekends too). Pay at station near elevator on 2nd floor.

Very pretty walk, little shade def need sunblock!

Scenic hike, definitely challenging! Nice reward at the top! Make sure you put some toe protectors in your hiking shoes, lots of downhill on the way back.

July 4th climb was as good as it can . Lot of people and had to wait in line for around 20 - 30 min to get a photo on totem pole . Thats a reward to be enjoyed

Done this trail twice. First time left too late in the day and turned back due to heat. Second time started much earlier (8am) on a much cooler day. That last little bit of elevation kicked my butt in a good way, challenging but doable. Wear a hat with a brim and know there is very little of this trail that is shaded.

Scenic views with a great workout to the top! Will do again!

Great scenic views from verdant green hills. Exceedingly windy above tree line. Knocked off a star because so much of the trail needs maintenance. Toilet users remarked about disgusting condition.

Nice hike..slow elevation, green and scenic trail..

Did it at sunset. Last segment a bit steep but extraordinarily beautiful ♥️

A fairly easy 7 mile hike, although we started early (7:30am) - in the heat it’s probably a moderate hike. Great views all through the hike. The biggest negative for me was the traffic - it is the most crowded trail I have ever been on. There was even a long line at the peak. Ok to visit if you are bagging peaks, but wouldn’t recommend otherwise.

Pretty great trail with a lot of birds and ducks!!! Good views too :( downside is that it has no shade and could get some sunburn easily

Really beautiful when its green :) this side seems to be slightly easier than the one from standford avenue

Very beautiful place to hike

Great hike- open fields and tree cover. Also a cave. Warning, I thought this was a Hard hike, not moderate. Cows and plenty of their left behind obstacles. Watch where you step in some parts!

The trail was very well maintained and the route is clearly defined not much guess work to it which is nice. The first half of the trail could be jogged or walked dependent on your preference all around a good hike with out being to difficult. The viewpoints are excellent depending on the weather and amount of overcast.

very hard if your out if shape!!!!!! most people on this trail are physically fit. we made it just shy to the top of the peak because were so fat
