Amazing. Couldn't believe it but I saw a bald eagle near the edge of the lake then it flew away.

Very peaceful. Easy walk. Saw a quail, lots of bunnies and birds.

Beautiful. Trails were well defined and had adequate signage. Grounds were beautiful— a lot of trails and hiking nooks to check out! If you’re not a hiker or out of shape it probably won’t be as enjoyable. I found it to be easy but it was a challenging easy! There are portables and drinking fountains found throughout the grounds. One could easily spend a day here I came on Sunday morning very little foot traffic. *put on sun screen

Great challenging hike to the top of the summit. Great views and view of Lake Hodges. Will hike again.

Great if you have kiddos!! I grew up coming here and now I have a 4 and 8 year old. There’s plenty of space to explore and playgrounds to play on. Beautiful park. We bought a yearly parking pass because we love coming here.

This is a really nice hike up to the Bernardo Summit. The terrain varies from flat, to rocky and some decent inclines. It is a well worn trail that are shared with mountain bikers, hikers and trail runners. I would say it is a good trail for most, there were some seniors and children on the trail, so use your best judgment. There are several different trails that can be taken, I was on the one marked “Bernardo Mountain Summit” which takes you to rattlesnake view point. If you are going in the summer or hot in general, start early mornings to avoid heat issues, not a lot of shaded areas and in the summer Escondido gets well over 90 degs, so hotter on the mountain. Overall a great work out, great views and round trip was about 4.5 miles

First/last mile against major highway. once away from it the hike got much better. little shade but nice views.

Great!
Took my 4 month old and it was varied enough in terrain and trail alone to keep him entertained!
Difficulty varied with multiple hills despite climbs by a hill!!
I will do it again!

This is not the hike that is described here. the trails here are very limited. You can hike Wes about 1 mile in and the trails disappear. They are not maintained in the water level is very very low. I went bushwhacking for a while and turn around. I then drove over the dam on Oakvale Road to check out the Egret Trail on the south side of the lake. it is basically a service road. About a mile long and then it just ends. so I turned around and went back to the car. there are some nice rocks to climb on on the lake is very pretty. Some people were catching a few fish.

This is a very easy path/trail. There are TONS of mountain bikers on it so you will need to be aware and be ready to move to the side. I would hesitate to bring younger children on it when the mountain bikers are around in droves even though the pathway is relatively wide. There are plenty of blind curves. The views are fine- I appreciate harder hikes so for me, this is a good entry level path but for others it may be exactly what they want or need. Bonus points for the Sunday Farmers Market at the parking lot from 10-3. Great fruit offerings were available.

Great hike! Even if you are out of shape, I believe you can still conquer it lol. My wife and my 7 year old was able to finish it under 3hrs. Beautiful view of Lake Hodge, Escondido, and RB!

Nice semi-strenuous hike near Escondido. Great views near and at the summit.

Great Trail lots of options to choose your distance!!!

Nice trail. Definitely I will return to take side trails. Be careful, there are a lot of rattlesnakes! However, as elsewhere on such trails in California.

Easy to moderate hike and the view at the summit is worth the hike. Nice to see that in the midst of suburbs, nature is still abundant and accessible. Along the trail, you can enjoy the various wildflowers in bloom.

Plain and simple... a must do. Can't wait to return to this loop for the fall when the rain starts!

We enjoyed this hike yesterday, even though it was twice as long as we expected at the start 10.2 miles vs. the 5.1 miles that we expected. We also thought it was end atop a 1,500 ft peak but it ended in a ridge about 700 feet. Stlll it has lots of shady trees, primarily stays in the river valley and we made great time 4 hours, because the trail was mostly sand or dirt. We hiked from a parking lot at Sunset Drive to Raptor Ridge and back.

Beautiful trail, your gonna want to keep going so check out del dios gorge trail. Worth worth it!

Nice loop. You have options on directions as well as some side trails so not likely to get boring if you repeat. Great views. Bikers were considerate and trails wide enough to accommodate all.

great trail for a run, beautifully tucked down below houses up on the Hills so you feel like you are in the wilderness but you are still near civilization

Steady ascend to the overlook. It was fairly warm although we started our walk @ about 830 am., so I suggest starting the trip earlier in the day if possible.

This trail is just okay. There’s nothing particularly special about it. You never feel like you really get away from civilization because you always see homes at almost every section of the trail. We did see a mule deer bounding through the grass and a woodpecker pecking on a tree, which were both really neat. The trail is pretty narrow so it’s a bit annoying to have to make room for mountain bikers and there’s coyote and dog poop throughout the trail in various places. The trail abruptly ends at a shaded picnic table area.

I love this hike- flat enjoyable path around lake to gradual incline to pretty steep hike as you get to the top- Im older so I find this challenging enough for exercise- always see quail and roadrunner or two with nice view of lake- love it!

the GPS coordinates for the trailhead through Google Maps take you to a gated community. look for another access point.

Not crowded during midday. Some rocky sections but mostly towards the top. Views of other mountains and rooftops of houses.

I took my kids on the this trail! We took the botanical route back, and it was beautiful! We walked across the stream and the running water was amazing! Just stay on the trail as there are poison plants off of it—but there are warning signs everywhere!

This trail leads to so many beautiful sights. Follow the trail to a tiny waterfall and reach the loop that overlooks Lake Hodges. Great hike!

Started with the Way Up Trail and we ended it at the Escondido overlook. There was still tons of other trails available. We then came back down and took the Botanical Garden route and ended it at the Creek overlook, which was a great ending!
