Explore the most popular trail running trails near Dunlap with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

Watch out for rattlesnakes sunning themselves on the trail. Some nicer views higher up but somewhat by muted the forest, as glorious as the ponederosa forest is up there.

great view payoff from the top- go early and you'll have it to yourself!

The panoramic view + an additional mile beyond are worth it. The fire lookout was lame with no views

This is a great trail to hike with your K9 companion(s). Since this is National Forest land near Kings Canyon, you’ll find the scenery throughout the area to be breath taking. This is a Western US gem.

The only good views are at the very beginning but the rest of the hike was kind of "meh". A bonus though is we see no other people on the hike.

Beautiful trail with a paved section leading up to an awesome overview of the mountains. The Trail then continues as a dirt trail but is well maintained

We took this hike in search of wildflowers in the high meadows. We were surprised to find that this trail is entirely in forest with no open vistas. We did see grouse and marmot and some wildflowers, but the flowers were mostly on their decline. Next time we'll veer left at Marvin Pass and ascend Mitchell Peak for the 360 degree views.

Great trail on a beautiful ridge. A couple awesome vistas. About 20% shade.

Quick, easy, and beautiful trail. Maybe 1/2 a mile total, out and back trail with, you guessed it, a panoramic view at the top! Paved trail, easy for young kids!

Someone please post a review of the drive in to this trail on the dirt access road. We were driving a non-4x4 small SUV rental and did not want to take a chance. I really wanted to do this trail, but the road looked tough because of the recent fires... Maybe a comment on the road conditions will help someone else give it a try.

How was anyone able to reach this trailhead? Spent 45 minutes roaming treacherous backwoods roads and not finding any of the right turnoffs. Do not attempt this without an SUV or truck. Never even made it to the trail.

Washed out edge, but took the mist trail up to add more to the hike.

Short little hike but great view of Hume Lake and the peaks!

If you do clockwise, after baily bridge the trail were washed out by the river and it's impossible to walk over the river, as of June 11,2017. I actually go to mist falls trail and that was a very nice one too!

Beautiful hike from panoramic point (breathtaking) to the fire lookout. Took the trail out then the access road back. Came across a black bear on our way back to the car ~1/2 mile from the parking area.

One of the greatest hikes you can do in Kings Canyon. Experience the fresh cool air, while strolling along the river. Little jumps over logs to keep your trailhead exciting. So many encounters with small water streams and wildflowers. I came across a deer eating them, and it was a grand sight to see. There is lot of shades as you go deeper into the woods. So many different plants and trees to see. The trail is mostly flat, so it was pretty easy. Just pack lots of water and bug spray if you hate mosquitos. :P

Did this hike with my wife and daughter who was only 15 months old back in 91'. Awesome sequoia tree for sure. No one else out there the day we went. Very away from the crowds. Pretty warm the day we hiked it too.

Hiked the trail in early December. Nobody else was on the hike. It's actually a road but had about 6" of snow on it. Beautiful views at the top and the fact that we did not see a single other person was a huge plus.

A great trail with an incredible view of the Boole tree!

This requires a $30 ark entry fee to get access. I rated it a three because I didn't actually pay the fee. I found a local free trail not on the list.

Good length, mostly flat. Very nice access to streams and creeks. Greenery made me feel like I was in Jurassic Park. Actual dirt trail feels like you're walking in sand which can be tiring. Other than that it was enjoyable.

Very easy "hike" on pavement, Decent view of Kings Canyon & it's many mountain tops. Not busy either

Nice hike with good views of Hume Lake and portions of the Kings Canyon.

Mainly flat trail that is filled with amazing views of the canyon

Gorgeous hike. Saw quite a few deer very close up on the trail. This trail can combined with Bubb's Creek trail to make a longer more interesting hike. We jumped over some creeks and crossed a few bridges. There was lots of shade.

This is one of the few decent trails you can hike at tis time due to the closures of the park from the Rough Fire. You have to sneak behind the Grant Grove Store and drive to Panorama Point. From there the hike is beautiful. Some up and down and you cross the forest service road that essentially parallels the trail two times. Fortunate rainy weather caused us to turn around just shy of the fire lookout station as our visibility became almost zero and it was getting cold fast. Some spectacular views of the valley below. Only saw one other person on the trail.

Hiked this trail while on the Rough fire. The tree was protected by a sprinkler system attached to a folda-tank and pump.

Didn't go all the way to Grizzley Lakes. I turned back at the junction near Frypan Meadow. The smoke from the Rough Fire was pretty bad in the morning, but cleared up as I gained elevation. Will definitely hike this one again & camp at Grizzley lakes & then head up to Mt Harrington & over the Monarch Divide. Nice views & very peaceful......I didn't see another person the entire day.

The Boole Tree is a great place for a relaxing lunch away from the crowds that are regularly found around the other larger Trees associated with the park. Typical switchbacks up a minor incline to start the hike. Brought a friend along with me who was not prime shape and this was easily accessible. Not a long hike but this was a great spot for solitude and a peaceful meal all the while being shadowed by such and amazing tree.
