Great trail for a moderate workout. Lots of shade.

Love a challenge! Very fun, beautiful views.

Pretty chill hike, pack water if it’s summer bc it can get hella hot

Nice views, lots of variation in elevation, vegetation. Great workout. If hot take at least 1 litre/person water.
Need shoes with good traction. Be careful of poison oak.

Great hike. Have good shoes and lots of water on you.

Great Hike. I'm by no means a pro or close to, but the hike was great until near the bottom of the Sycamore line. I felt like the overgrowth hadn't been cut back like it should've and some poison oak would on occasion hang over the trail and it was just GAH. Total grueling workout but my girlfriend and I loved the views. In retrospect, we would've stayed on the Rocky Ridge View trail and then enjoyed some In n Out down the street lol.. Also once you reach the Devil's Loop it is just intensely uphill. Respect for anyone who takes less than 10 or so breaks from that butt burner.

Great little loop for breaking in some new hiking boots ;) Right at the start of the trail is the ascent, but once you are all the way up the views are unbeatable! Bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat because the entire trail is exposed, saved for a bit at the end.

Also worth noting that, since this is a wilderness area, there is livestock grazing permitted, so you are likely to run into (and definitely smell) the cows.

Great trail on the mountain I lived in the shadow of for 25 yrs. Several others that are better but still memorable. Best done in the spring ...

I lived in the bay area for over 10 years growing up, with Mt Diablo always looming over me, reminding me how small I truly am in this world. After moving away, i had to go back to conquer this beast, and she was well worth the trip! Stunning views, changing climates, the day I chose was misting for a good half of the hike, and the rest was up in the clouds above the rest of the earth. Unfortunately, there was a rather large parking lot greeting me at the top, but nothing could shake the accomplished feeling of defeating Mt Diablo. Onto the next challenge!

So much fun!!!! We found bathrooms pretty nearby too.

The trail hiking wasn’t too hard mission peak felt harder. What was harder was figuring out what was the trail in certain areas. Without AllTrails I would have been lost so many times!

Great hike. Went counterclockwise. Mile three is a bit technical with lots of foliage down the back of the ridge. Wish we wore long pants. Mile four is a bit grueling hiking back up and over but there are enough shady spots to catch your breath.

Probably the hardest trail I've run, but also one of the best. There are great scenic views throughout, and whichever direction you go (up Devils Hole, or up Sycamore) youre in for a great workout!

While the trail itself is a great trail, the attraction of the rocks and boulders is a blast for the kids. We went there the first time when the kids were 3 and 7, and the last time was recently when they are 10 and 13, and they were still just as excited to climb and explore the rocks.

Close to home and dog friendly. Once you go over Ridge View Trail down Sycamore there are no people , ever. Love this hike. Not hard but you will sweat a bit. Just a good isolated hike.

Had a blast on the trail. It wasnt too hard and the trail is well marked and the people on the trail were friendly. Just be advised when you reach the summit you will be greeted by a parking lot full of non-hikers and tourists. Overall a good hike.

another jewel in the east bay hikes. great mix of easy to moderate sections. sycamore trail from the north end down to the valley is narrow and overgrown vegetation due to the winter rains. beautiful spring blooms and an virtually empty valley trail makes it much more rewarding than the ridge trail. Devils hole is a good landmark to visit at least once, you can crawl thru the hole if you so dare. from the outer parking lot its almost a 8 mile loop. can get windy and chilly on the ridge. recommended to have a wind cheater and full length wear to avoid getting scratched

Great views of SF bay and surrounding. Allow about 3 hours to get around due to steepness of trails.

A great trail, especially running up the first hill. Once you get to the top you get a beautiful scenery.

My 3 year old and 8 year old loved this hike.

One of our Favorite hikes. Once you turn left and go down into Sycamore and come up Devils trail - No noise. No people. Just the wind at your ears and birds. Great escape! Solid fairly easy east bay hike.

One of our favorite hikes, We add the Devils hole loop adding 1.8 miles. Once you go over the ridge into Devils hole loop you are completely alone. No city noise, no other hikers - ever, no mountain bikes. Just Retail Hawks, Turkeys, Stellars Jays and views of Castro Valley, Oakland airport, and San Pablo Reservoir Dam. It is single track with switchbacks heading down Sycamore Trail, Fun. The climb out of Devils hole is straight up, a butt kicker. This is one of our go-to hikes. Then come down Elderberry is mostly under canopy so it's kinda doable on a warm day. Just under 8 miles.

Beautiful scenery during the entire hike! The first part was uphill and difficult, but then the path mellows out at the top. Stunning views of east bay and peaks of the city at the top. Be careful with your dog off leash as we saw and heard other people seeing snakes along the path. Super exposed so bring sunscreen and lots of water to stay hydrated. Windy at the top. We’ll definitely revisit!

Great walk. The ridge line was fantastic. Took us about 2 hours at a nice clip.

Good work out! Variety of views with wild flowers, stream, and fossil rocks.

The views are amazing from Devils Hole trail. Sycamore trail is narrow, with lots of brush infringing. Strongly recommended long pants and long sleeves. Also, plenty of poison oak.

It was a great scenic view. you'll be awed by the various sizes of mountains, sky view, fog mingling among mountains, trees , landscapes etc.
I hike with my two daughters 8 and 10years old from Rock city parking lot to summit of Mount diablo. it took us 3.25hrs up and 2.5hrs back. it was a great hike. i'm proud of my girls!!. the only scray part was the stretch from a big water storage tank to devils spot was a single file hiking which any mistake could be disastrous. my recommendation at such spots are to have a firm gripping shoe and or a hiking stick or suffice like we did : have a normal sturdy tree branch stick we picked from the ground. at this spot it was kind of slippery during returning back so we had to bend a little to enforce our grip. I'm sure experienced hikers won't have a problem.
The kids in the end loved it all.
you'll need lots of water going up,(at least 3bottles each person) you'll be able to refill at the summit.
we saw a rattle snake which was basking itself in the sun. there was no need to panic. The kids got to play with sand also on the way. just being kids.
on arrival back at rock city, the kids had 5mins to enjoy the rocks , cause as you can imagine we were all spent.
I'm sure you'll all enjoy the hike.
