Just completed Oct 2019. I arrived 7:45am on a Saturday and the car parks were already full so bear that in mind. It’s a fun trail and a very good workout. The first 3 miles up is on a wide track and is busy with people. The last 2 miles to the summit is on a narrower, more interesting trail which is wooded and very steep in places. Remember to look behind you for the views. When you get to the top, there is a communications installation that is pretty ugly but walk an extra quarter of a mile or so (keeping the masts on your right) and the hillside opens up with views all round. The wide track section gets a little boring on the way back down but that’s out and back trail routes for you.

Nice trail. Lots of shade. Would highly recommend to other hikers.

Very nice! You can see the reservoir, and the vista point that overlooks the Milpitas. The last 1/3 of the trial is in the woods.

Great workout hike! Views are pretty, a lot of shade, not crowded at all.

One of my favorite hikes. Lots of shade going clockwise. Little steep but smooth heading down the other side with the farm to greet you at the end. Lot of people here and parking can be hard to find in the morning. Saw birds, lizards, squirrels, deer, turkeys, and horse riders. Great views and atmosphere.

Wonderful! Nice views. Quick hike. Easy.

Lots of flies. Otherwise a fairly decent hike.

Can be very technical. A good workout.

Pretty trail.

A healthy range of emotions!

Nice trail. Most shaded.

Overall, an easy to moderate hiking trail with approximately 75% shade to 25% unshaded areas. It has plenty of views of open pastures and rolling hills with a nice vista point of the bay at the midpoint. Depending on your level of experience, it should take anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours walking/jogging.

The hike wasn’t too strenuous. We had to good time enjoying the quiet environment. Scenery was ok. All in all a good 2 hour hike.

A lot of shade to protect you from sunburn. Like it! Great trail for Sep and Oct. Parking is easy in the early morning.

Please allow dogs on leash at least. It's sad that I have to keep my dog at home everytime I want to come here.

Great for kids. In the farm ask to let kids play with snake.

Ran this loop on 9/29/19. Just an awesome run with a rewarding view at the top, where you arrive to a collection of stones. Black Mountain is fully open. Go early since it's getting dark earlier. I finished under 3 hours.

beautiful path, just the middle part leads through beautiful nature. A pity we found that expect a very high up with beautiful views large electricity pylons and you hear the pipes crackle ... Nevertheless, a pleasant route, for which we needed with some breaks 2 hours.

Good trail for a weekend morning- lightly crowded. Dogs and horses are ok.

A really nice trail, very well kept and enough shade to keep you cool even in the middle of the day. Also offers some nice views and wildlife in the area. 4 stars because we had flies constantly buzzing around our faces and ears, which was very annoying and put a damper on the enjoyment of the hike.

Nice moderate to easy hike. Overall good mix of shade and sun. Start with the PG&E trail for some good climbs and downhill slopes. Starts off moderately to lightly trafficked, ends with heavy traffic where the majority of people are.

Nice workout overall. Expect half of the hike shaded. Lots of lizards in unshaded areas.

Only negative is that i had to walk through Garrott farm
