Nice cactus garden at the entrance...and plenty of cacti along the trail! I love cactus, so that's a big reason why I gave this trail four stars. Instead of the loop, Patty and took the path up to the park on the other side. It was a steep hill! All in all, a fun little hike.

Out of all the hikes I’ve been in up and down California this one has got to be one of the most let downs. Honestly this was a walk around what’s left of the Otay River, which is now just trash, (lots of peoples “used” drugs/alcohol) it has an odd energy and it was just sad seeing how people can just ruin nature and its beauty. Definitely wouldn’t bring my kids here.

Perfect biking trail for any rider. All the shade makes it an obvious choice when other trails are too hot. It has a great flow to it in either direction and allows you to quickly access surrounding trails if this isn't long enough.

This is a great segment to add to the surrounding trails. Riding the loop counter-clockwise gives you an opportunity to take on a rocky climb and to practice some harder lines. Taking it clock-wise has a great flow where you can fly through rocky sections.

5 stars for what this trail is. It is NOT a hike! I use it to get from one trail to another, but I would never still to this trail alone. If you are going to bike it there is a trail that runs parallel to the south that is noted on the map. That's a fun short ride.

good hike. but not much to see.

This place is amazing for intermediate mountain bike riding. There are a lot of trails that lead to the same destination. The beginning of the trail starts of with a lot of big bushes and lead to the long trees and branches near the lake. There will be a lot of unexpected turns and you can get little scratches so make sure to wear long pants. There are so many hills and turns and you can really enjoy the ride. Once you get deeper into the trail it’s almost like a desert, lots of open grainy terrain, and small bushes. If you go around summer, the sun will be on you so hard, so make sure to wear sunscreen and bring lots of water. Be careful for snakes and bugs!!! But overall this trail is amazing and the end result rewarding. I always feel the ride back to the parking area is a shorter ride than the way in!!! My husband and I love it so much, it’s become one of our favorite trails.

It had a beautiful Scenic Mountain View overlooking the lake a lot of winding roads great for biking! Really close to the Olympic training center! USA!! XD

It was bad. Dirty but my 3 yr old saw a horse so 2 stars.

Did a couple of months ago - very steep start with lots of loose rocks so be careful
Rest is pretty good fun with some great views

Hard trail 3 uphills trails are well maintained. El cajon mountain would definitely be harder than this one

perfect for an easy "rest day" hike.

on Upper Otay Reservoir

Trail gets a bit dicey to follow on the north side of the lake, had to double back. Ran it on a rainy day too, the north side is pretty muddy. I also ran it in Merrill barefoot trail running shoes, would not recommend because of how rocky the back half of the trail is. Walked a few sections just because I was getting jabbed by rocks with every stride.

No judgments from me, but there were a few kids hanging out on the graffiti wall in the no trespass area. Hey I was in highschool once, but still I wouldn't leave anything valuable in your car.

Lots of interesting vegetation with many small little forests. Lots of lizards small birds and frogs and wooden bridges. Just wish there was parking and a sign at the entrance naming the trail. Very nice view of the mountains and the lake. Will return with my family.

took my wife and son for nice and easy hike this morning. For the most part we are rookies to hiking, so this was a good way to do something but not push ourselves too hard. we had our 3 dogs with us and they seemed to enjoy their hike . trail is mostly flat with a few ups and downs on the road. a few bridges that my son liked a lot. some mud and sections with water because of recent rain but there are alternate narrow paths in areas where water accumulates. we only did about 5 miles total because we it is our first time walking long distance but you can make this hike as long or short as you want to. very light trail traffic today, a few bikers and walkers. trail was clean for the most part, a little trash and dog droppings in some areas but it doesn't seem to be a problem. parking is on side of road at entrance to trail. highly recommended hike

nice easy Sunday hiking trail .

Nice and easy hike for beginners. Straight shot, forward and back.

Beautiful views of distant ocean, Point Loma, downtown, lakes, jets, and hills. Best to do loop on cooler, clear days. Navigation of loop somewhat tricky due many erosion ruts, game trails and power line access roads. Map spur shown to lake overlook can be skipped because peak views are better. Tips: 1. Start going thru double truck gate. Go several 100 yds then turn right down sketchy short trail to line up with massive erosion rut up the mtn. 2. Generally follow erosion rut trail to flag at peak. 3. Continue past peak on clear trail and start creeping down the backside. 4. Do not take two dead power line access roads on map to left! 5. Aim for far distant kiosk looking bench cover. 6. Go to metal equip. shed and turn left on single track mtn trail at side of shed. 7. After decent to gentle ravine generally aim for access road under distant power lines. 8. Aim for ball field light poles. 9. Turn right uphill on sketchy trail in step 1.

NOT A TRAIL anymore. As of 3/5/18. signs have been placed in the middle of the existing routes warning of trespassing, ecological restoration, etc. just an fyi.

A really nice place to walk or mountain bike... The Ranger keeps this park really nice...

I liked it but it was kind of sketchy was checking it out for my baby and I to hike but I definitely wouldn’t go alone or even with one friend if you are a female there were people waiting in the parking lot watching cars which I know they were because they had flip flops on but if you are in a group it’s relaxing

The hike is moderate however we didn’t finish due to no people being around except for the three man standing by the hill, very suspicious. We ended up turning around then came across the broken glass.... that means cars get broken into , watch out. Unless you’re going with more than 3 people I wouldn’t recommend it. Reminds me of an episode of CSI.

Really nice easy in and out walk with views of the water... some shade but not much. A lot of bikers so watch out for bends.

Beautiful trail with tons of things to see and cool little bridges mostly for the bikers but some to get through little pockets of water or weeds. Honestly an amazing hike especially since it’s so close to the lake for about 90% of the trail, new favorite spot close to home! One thing to keep in mind, since it is a hiking trail as well, just make sure if you’re hiking or running you keep an eye out for bikers, while there’s a ton of smaller trails that offer bikers access to an alternative route there’s just some areas you need to keep an eye out cause the path is a bit smaller. Overall super happy i found this place :)

cool trail for running, jogging or walking... especially for starters... I don't recommend do biking here... I got a lot of goat head thorns, had to switch my inner tubes twice in a week

Nice.

I love this walk. Several parking spots.

Flat dirt trail, with a large fence on one side to keep you out of the golf trail, and mostly a busy street or houses on the other. Not really a great way to connect with nature!
