Hard to navigate - overgrown in some areas, lots of small paths off-trail, but fun. There were creek crossings and lots of lizards and scrambling.

Nice scenic hike. We were only able to go a bit over 2 miles out and then either had to cross the creek with or scramble down boulders. There was no sign of a trail across the creek and some of us didn't feel confident to cross safely. I lost my gps map just about then so we didn't know if we were heading the right direction. So we turned back. But up to that point there were a couple of very scenic shady spots to enjoy lots of beautiful dragonflies and damselflies buzzing about. So it was well worth the first try. Definitely going back again!

Hiking

This is a wonderful little hike. The creek is pristine and we saw tons of wildlife: crayfish, tadpoles, trout (I think?) and tons of wildflowers. The surrounding canyon is gorgeous. Keeping track of the trail is a bit challenging, but you can’t go too wrong, since you’re in a canyon. I would definitely do this hike again.

Not EASY.. the actual path is hard to stay on, due to the overgrowth of vegetation.. But the big pools of water at the end are very refreshing and are about 7ft deep in some spots

This trail was challenging for me, it’s not that it was HARD HARD but it’s a steady way uphill and it was also super hot! It kicked my butt but when I saw the stairs of the little lookout in the distance I almost cried it was such a relief! Came on a Saturday and I only saw 2 other hikers. It was pretty lonely for a weekend. I liked this trail and I would come again in the future. I recommend it if you want a workout! I think I would come on a cloudy day next time. The first 1.6 miles are just a paved road and then the trail starts at your left. We also spotted a snake sunbathing but I read somewhere that if you make noise it scares them away so that’s what we did and it worked. Happy hiking!

Great hike topographically speaking. Too many people littering under their little shade structures with too much beer and too loud speakers.

Hiking

My new favorite hike - we started at around 10am to beat the heat. There is a bit of shade through the middle of the hike as you zig zag across the creek. We stopped and put our feet in more than once. Really gorgeous wildflowers and plenty of snakes and lizards dotting the path. Bring plenty of water this time of year. Only saw a few other hikers.

Be very careful if you attempt this hike. Encountered an aggressive swarm of bees in the narrows north of Cienaga Campground (perhaps 1/2 mile beyond Pianobox prospect) and was forced to turn around and quickly backtrack through the canyon.

The trail doesn’t go where it says. You end up at the road and there’s nothing past that. The path takes you into the water. Not sure what’s going on there. But the first part of it is nice.

Hiking

It was a good trail until the end. This map doesn’t accurately depict where you’re supposed to be. We ended up going down a sketchy relatively steep, uncleared hill. Glad we didn’t hit any snakes bc it was prime snake territory. It’s be best if you just walked down the paved road back to the parking lot.

Nice easy hike. Didn’t have time to finish the whole hike but went 2 miles in and it was great, eventually followed along a small river. Really quiet and not too many people. Looking forward to coming back

Still water in the creek and some wildflowers and butterflies too. Not too many hikers so able to keep my distance. A beautiful day!
