1//14/20 Great trail. Beautiful views, narrow roads AWD not necessary when is dry but definitely recomended for some part of the roads. Not off the road exploring because private property in both sides of the road. Be mindful.

Lovely trail with an awesome view at the end. Kid and stroller friendly. Bathroom stops are available. There is a $10 fee for cars and free parking along the rode on specific spots. Pay attention to the signs. The along the tide parking does have signs (no parking any time) in specific areas. Definitely recommend this hike if you are in the Carmel area.

Nice hike lots of shade and some nice uphill sections.

I have driven HWY 1 more times than I can remember and each time it feels brand new. Spring is my favorite time to explore this magnificent drive. Look for California poppy and lupine all along the way.

Great views. Trail marked with signs except some jack wagon destroyed one of the signs.

Beautiful coastline views and tide pools with star fish, sea urchins and varieties of crab and fish.

when I set out to hit the trail, the weather was cloudy, but the whole trail was clear. 4wd wasn't necessary with the dry weather, but I wouldn't try without.

Beautiful day, lots of foot traffic. Bigger waves crashing on rocks made for some great experiences.

Could walk all the route since part is closed for restoration :( . Just heard the sea lions, coupd not see. Very nice views though.

If your looking for some off roading this really isn’t that. It’s a dirt trail that’s pretty well maintained. There’s really nothing crazy about it. I does get a little narrow so be mindful of other drivers. Some lady in a blue Toyota Rav 4 was driving aggressively up the hill as I was going down cautiously (my wife isn’t big on cliffs). Anyway, she proceeded to stop next to me and start yelling at me. NOT NICE!!!!! Made it to the top without having to ever put my 4 Runner in four wheel drive. There are some pretty photo ops as you drive down the path. Talked to a Monterey County Deputy and he stated not to venture off the main route that’s when you trespass. Again, super chill! Nothing crazy just a little dusty.

This was our second time on this trail. It is absolutely gorgeous as you drive up on the cliffs looking out over the coast and then down into forest and then back up again. It is an easy trail and a great ride. Very doable in any vehicle with some ground clearance and tires that can go over dirt roads. The trails have gotten a bit rockier since 2016. There is one portion where AllTrails will warn you that you are deviating from the planned route. The “off trail” part is actually the only way you can go. There is no other road. This portion is a series of switchbacks with lots of loose rocks. Very fun but now you definitely need a sportier vehicle than a few years ago, don't take your sedan.

Very easy , lots of scenery

Nothing beats driving highway 1 towards Monterey, very scenic and plenty of places to stop and take pictures

Loved driving Highway 1!!

This trail was overgrown and had a ton of poison oak on it :( we only went in about less than .25 miles before turning around because of it... really hard to do with a dog if you don’t want the dog to rub against the poisonous plants! BIG Bummer.

Beautiful easy trail all around. If you’re heading down PCH with some time to spare, this is a great trail to catch some great views. The trail travels through a lot of private property so exploring off trail isn’t really an option. However, the drive through the beautiful forest and landscape is well worth the detour. Awd recommended but could do without. Passed up a stock Jetta on the trail and a few SUVs.

great drive in july, dry and dusty. no need for 4x4. no issues in wrangler, some tight spots for f250. took about 2.5 hours with stops for pics and RC car racing. lots of fun.

Very easy trail. Took the family in our 4x4 4Runner but stayed in 2wd the whole time. No need for a 4x4 truck. Amazing views

beautiful, easy hike. prepare for crowds but gorgeous views. start later in the morning to avoid the fog or potentially revisit the spots you already got to see without the fog.

Awesome trail to take out the family SUV. Amazing views traveling through the red wood trees and some grass views over looking the coast. Had no problem with our Subaru Ascent. Family stopped a couple spots to take family photos and some of the SUV. The trail was definitely marked where private properties are but it’s a straight pass and there is no way you can get lost.
