Easy trail to go thru in any kind of truck. Drove in through the south Big Sur entrance and came out by Bixby Bridge. Plenty of great views along the way!

One of the most beautiful and remote walks/hikes near the water I’ve done!

We entered Coast Rd just north of the Andrew Molera State Park. There is no gate there. We drove in about 7 miles and then turned around because we weren’t sure if the exit would be gated. It was a great opportunity to go off reading.

Beautiful views in the area but the gate was closed and locked very well with private property signs all over the fence. I did not even see a path for bikers or hikers.

The road is open to bicycles and hikers per Andrew molera state beach ranger January 2018.

This is the old coast road and it is open to bicycles and hikers . There are locked gates-you can go around them. The road itself is not private property, but the surrounding land is-so stay on the road. Information given to me by molera state beach ranger January 2018.

This trail is definitely through private property, we didn't see anyone during the hike (started around 10am) but sounds like others in the comments did.

Driving down HW1 you can park directly opposite the entrance. Then just follow the road (hop a few fences) and you'll find yourself at the top. Its a road the whole way so plenty of room to walk. Good moderate hike, some nice elevation gain but not too challenging. Great view from the top of the surrounding mountains. Only okay few of the ocean. Didn't see a single person the whole hike.

A friend and I drove a mile or 2 in before getting out to hike. That's what I'd suggest doing. The scenery is endless. The trail has a of greenery, redwoods, creeks, and everything you can expect from Big Sur. We ended at the top of a ridge in a cow pastor that was super windy. Such a contrast to the forest down below, but definitely added to the adventure.

spectacular

Trail is marked closed but decided to take a peak and then just kept going. A lot of the trail towards the cliffs were overgrown with plant life (must be aware of stepping due to small animals holes) but nothing truly considered dangerous. Beautiful views, lots of bunnies on the trail!! The flowers gave off a wonderful sweet smell. Amazing easy trail.

The trail to go up the "mountain" was closed also, due to what looked like a landslide removing the stairs. Definitely wasn't safe looking and stayed away from there.

Driving up the coast on Hwy 1 from San Luis Obispo to Carmel, the fog was so thick we thought we had entered the Twilight Zone. Patches of light and color opened up a few times and the yellow flowers blooming in late June added a spark. The fog was solid as we drove through Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. We didn't realize the steep drop offs to the left because it was a white out, but as we drove on, the fog gradually moved out to sea, displaying a more defined coastline as we reached Carmel. One bright spot was a visit to the Hearst Castle along the way. This is definitely an awesome drive, especially with clear skies, as we came back down from Carmel another time to McWay Falls. Watch out for Poison Oak on the trails... Classic trip, not to miss!

Beautiful coastal drive! Breathtaking cliff views, crashing surf, wildlife, beaches. This drive has it all. Fill up with gas before you go and bring snacks. Restaurants and convenience stores are few and far between.

We drove Hwy 1 in June, 1989. It was very foggy for most of the trip, and most of my pics came out dark. Beautiful drive!
