the trail doesn't really exist as it's marked. It nice hike, very little shade, and the reservoir is more full and has covered the trail(s).

Just a basic ride around a non picturesque lake. the only redeeming value was that the paved path was well maintained. Not worth a special trip.

it opens only at 6 am in summer. while we had fun, i dont recommend it. its not for hikers. there are lots of other bay area hikes that are much better than this. and definitely wont recommend in summer

i would recommend this trail during winter season. there is absolutely no shade or place to sit. the location does not open till 6 am during summer. i wouldn't recommend this trail if you are looking for a workout. there are a lot of other places around the bay area that is hike friendly.

I would give it a 5 star but since we were not able to hike the whole loop due to it's partial closer I gave it a 4. Part of the trail was closed off because of the Golden Eagles hatchings. The park does not want the hikers to disturb the nests. It's a beautiful hike. We love the incline so we were happy that we were at least able to do some of it. We were told by the person at the booth to be cautious because there were several rattle snakes that had been seen....so just an fyi if you decide to hike here once the trail reopens.

Dog friendly! Great walk. Access to the lake/river and it’s windy.

I would give this trail 2 stars, but I appreciated the vault toilets that were on the trail, so I will give it 3 stars. I'm glad I did this in the spring as there is no shade as others have stated. I had difficulty with my footing as I had to step where the cattle had dug their hooves into their trail. Since I didn't want to twist an ankle, I had to keep my head down and be very cautious where I stepped. I guess I'm spoiled by the East Bay Park system with their groomed trails. It is pretty at the top to look around. I saw very little wildlife except for the aggressive cows which seemed to be aways near me once I started the descent into the valley. The trail is rated hard, which it was for me with the footing issues. Not worth paying a $6.00 entry fee to hike with cows on their trails.

This is a nice easy flat walking trail. However, the trail does not connect all the way through. I walked all the way around to the very end, only to have turn around and go all the way back. Important to note you cannot connect all the way around, as this is 16miles total there and back.

Good trail for most of this run, but I stupidly followed the trail in the app and I was off onto a cow trail way off course. Ran right into 4 different herds of gazing cows and had to navigate around them. Great trail, lots of animals that slowed me down.

Great hike and found a mid-point to practice a little fly fish casting!

This is a very easy and flat hiking trail. The trail that is closest to the water is paved. The trail that is on the outer edge of the water in not paved. You can walk or bike. There is a settlement halfway into the trail, and a couple of motorcycle riders were on the trail as well. I found a decent amount of fisherman on a Saturday morning. As some other reviewers have mentioned, there are no restrooms on this trail, except a portable toilet at the beginning of the trail. There is absolutely no shade in this trail. Another thing to keep in mind is that to walk all around the lake, you will have to cut through US Davis Fish Conservation and Culture Lab, I am not sure if that is possible, since that is the only way you can do a "full circle" based on a map view. I hiked four miles into the trail and turned around for a total of eight miles.

Beautiful views of reservoir. Steep and challenging in part but, great hike.

Three stars only because of the section of Old River behind the Forebay. A lot of life back there. I didn't go past the end of the slough. The rest was a bit trashy and not much to see. No return trip here...

I went with a friend today. It was a beautiful hike. We walked through the herd of cows (no joke) and saw hawks, flowers coming out of know where and the views where breathtaking! Go and enjoy ...

Simply Amazing...will for sure be back!

Definitely watch out for rattle snakes. 20 minutes into our hike I almost stepped on a baby one. Also the juvenile bulls were a little intimidating. Nice peaceful hike. No shade so go in spring or winter.

Beautiful views of Mt Diablo and Brushy Peak. Please clean up your trash.

BIKES PROHIBITED Drove all the way up here to find that mountain bikes are only a allowed on a small area from the north access point to the reservoir. One star for misinformation. I did drive up to the walnut staging area from the north and rode the trails, but would only give this 2 stars for mountain biking. Go somewhere else.
