Great trail, but the mileage listed on All Trails is off. From the Barney Lake trailhead near upper Twin Lakes to Peeler Lake is about 10 miles one way, and from the far end of Barney Lake to the first meet up of Peeler Lake is closer to 5 miles which are all mostly steep switchbacks.

If you’re backpacking and not acclimated to the altitude, recommend setting up camp for a night around Barney then heading out to Peeler. Elevation at Peeler is ~9,800 -10,000+.

Lots of great water spots and you can tell the trail and camp spots are respected. No trash, and no fires. Great hike full of eastern Sierra beauty.

Great hike with some changing landscapes. A couple of snowfields even in September. Beautiful vistas from the lakes.

Hiked this on the 9th of November 2017. There is no snow on the trail until almost 9000 ft and even then the snow is minimal. There are plenty of places to hike on the way up crown but I recommend pushing all the way to crown. The lake is gorgeous and worth the trip. We were the only people on the lake due to the time of year which made it even better. It got cold at night but not unbearable. This was by far one of the best backpacking experiences I've had in the Sierras. The trail is easy to follow and not too strenuous.

Great backpacking sites at Crown lake. This trail is very underrated in comparison to trails in Yosemite. Wonderful hike and backpacking trip

Spent 1 night at Peeler Lake, and the next on the ridge above Snow Lake. Incredibly beautiful area, fantastic trail, lots of mosquitos, would definitely return.

One of my favorites, I kept going and turned it into a 50 mile loop. Gorgeous views and strenuous in several parts. Several bears were spotted

We started out at the Twin Lakes/Mono Village Resort area. Since we were backpacking, we left our car overnight, which is a $10 fee up to 6-7 days. You have to take all food out of your car because bears will get into it and destroy cars! Anyways, the trail up to Crown Lake is very scenic. You get a good view of the Sawtooth Ridge. We camped up behind Crown Lake so we could get a good view of Slide Mountain. The only problem with this hike is that it started snowing with high winds! Otherwise, very scenic, very nice, very gradual elevation gain.
