Brilliant and spectacular!!!!

It's also important the company you keep on the trail to share the scenery with. Moderate hike, exciting views, with many multiple opportunities to expand your exploration.

It isn't too smokey to hike here (Aug 2018) but views are not what they are when it is clear. We just spent a couple nights by Rock Lake and Jamison which are both nice. The hike into the lakes from the mine is uphill, hot at mid-day. and rocky, but with nice forested areas, a waterfall, small streams, interesting geology and good views. Nice stars at night despite all the fires to the north and south. It took us about 2 hours to hike in, and 1 hour to get out. We really enjoyed hiking up to Mt Washington from Jamison - it is an exposed, difficult rock scramble at the summit, but beautiful!

This trail was rough on my knees because of all the rocks and large steps, but the view at the top was worth it! We made it to the lake and went swimming, and hiked back down shortly after. Also visiting the waterfall on the way down was my favorite part, also it was quite steep climbing down to it. I don't recommend it for anyone who doesn't have great balance or strength to climb back up.

Well marked trail that intersects with a few others. If you are interested in taking a swim, I'd suggest going counter clockwise at the start/Y. This will put you at the best swimming lake (Round) just over halfway in the loop. Round has a nice beach at the southernmost part of the trail. I estimate water temp at 70-72 degrees. Lots of folks and kids were swimming.

Great trail and hike with some mining history nearby. Got a late start, so we couldn't find any spots along the west shore on a Saturday, but found a beautiful camp site for two tents on the East shore that were perfect. No one else on the east shore, so we were able to camp naked with the warm weather ... Gorgeous view of sunset and sun rise. Didn't even need bug repellent!!!

A really beautiful hike all the way around! There are 5 lakes along the way, tons of butterflies and wild flowers everywhere! This hike looks simple, but really pushes you. It’s well marked and we had no trouble finding our way when crossing other paths! Great for all ages!

Spent 2 nights on west shore of Jamison Lake on a perch above the water. Trail was fantastic with no sign of wild life. Nights were quiet and peaceful and the stars were incredible to see. Fish hopping and caught a few. saw a few other camps but was very quiet especially after the day hikers left. weather was hot during the day but perfect at night. Will definitely be back!

Perfect day hike. Has amazing views, lots of lakes, and is not too strenuous. Great for dogs, mine was off leash the entire time.

Great hike. the wildflowers were incredible and the dogs loved all the lakes. If you bring dogs hike the loop counterclockwise so they are headed downhill on the dry stretch.

Keep going up to the PCT where you will see amazing view of Sierra Buttes! it's too bad we can't backpack at these lakes but hop on over to Jamison and Wade to set up camp and explore all these lakes.

went backpacking two days ago with my 5 yr old son. the trail was rocky and very steep for him. we camped on the west side of Jamison near the island. Fish jumping around, bring your pole. the water was still very cold. too cold for me to fully submerge. very beautiful! like a dream. we will be back with the rest of the family. lots of butterflies, and saw a deer. no bear or cougars.

Such a beautiful trail with views and lakes galore! Easy access and a clear trail. Wild flowers and butterflies are in full effect.

My new favorite hike!

Fantastic hike showing off some beautiful lakes and scenery. We got a little lost once we got the the mining site and ended up hiking up the mountain and spending some time on the Pacific Crest Trail. It was a good mistake though. If you take the little detour that is at times steep, it's well worth it. It has a beautiful view of the lakes on this trail and some others ones in the distances.

Once you get past the first up hill climb, it's pretty easy. The lake is very peaceful and if you get above the lake on the ridge it has a beautiful view of the lake and the surrounding area.

Gold lake highway is Not Plowed through the Winter. Ever. No snow shoeing on this hike unless you snow mobile in.

We did an overnight trip on June 9th & 10th. There was a sign at the bottom of trail warning of a mountain lion in camp at rock lake on June 8th (great reminder of wildlife in the area). We had no problems and no sightings.
The hike and lake were great. We made camp on the east shore of Jamison to gain a little wind coverage. On our way out we hiked up to Wades lake and back around. The camping area up at Wades lake is a bit better, but lake access is more difficult.

The last review mentioned that the road was closed. This is no longer the case.

Great weather and views. Dogs loved it. Some snow patches still but definitely manageable.

This is an amazing loop that brings you to all the beautiful lakes in the area. Big Bear Lake and Silver Lake were among my favorites. Be sure to check out Long Lake too for a breath taking view.

I told my girlfriend to bring shoes or hiking boots, but of course she insisted on flip flops and she was still able to complete the 4 miles. In late May the water is bearable to swim in and very refreshing after each stop. Nothing can beat the snow capped mountains surrounding the shimmering bodies of water. It is a truly magnificent area.

Each lake more amazing than the one before. Can do it as an all day trip with stops to picnic, fly fish, swim(water was very cold). Small patches of snow but passable.

Easy hike made more difficult by snow covered trail (March 31st). The lake's sort of a marsh but we're taking the kids back when the snow melts.

Decent hike, not quite what it was hyped as. Wouldn’t necessarily classify as easy - the western part of the loop of the lake is “unmaintained” as a sign on a log points out. The elevation was real too! Nevertheless, if looking for a quick moderate hike with a nice lake view, this is a good option!

Perfection. One of my favorites. Gets a bit crowd in summer though. Parking extremely difficult! Beware of naked sunbathers! They are out when sun is shining.

Beautiful hike. Definitely hike the ridge above the Lake. Frost side of the mountain trail is still snowed in as of 4/26/18.

Great hike! A few snow areas that are iced over and you need have the right foot gear with you. A few trails are under a few inches of water, but you can maneuver around most of them.

great hike but the main road is currently closed due to excavation (see pic). I drove up the road to the museum and down to Jamison Campground. Head towards the back, you'll hear the river, and near site 53 is a bridge that will take you to a smaller bridge and you'll end up at Jamison Mine and the trailhead. You will immediately begin a rocky climb and numerous rock steps. it was icy in the campground and small sections here. spotty snow along the trail to Grass Lake and Little Jamison Falls. there is snow melt and a 30 yard section with an inch or two of running water along the lake. it opens up to a short sections a large trees then a snow field and up again through switchbacks, snow from 4-9" and to a rock cliff section overlooking Jamison Lake. there were quite a few footprints until the last section. I saw one young trailrunner and then a fit older couple trail running midway and had the trail to myself the rest of the time. Happy hiking!!

This trail is beautiful. However, as of Nov 25, 2017, we found several patches of the trail under snow. This made it hard to follow the trail. But this trail is breathtaking.

I am not sure why this is rated MODERATE. It’s a straightforward walk around a large pond. I’d probably rate it higher as a short trail run because the paths are well defined and unobstructed. It’s not a trail I will walk again but this is my perspective as a landscape and wildlife photographer.

i think anywhere out here in this area is gorgeous, all trails worth it! we encountered quite a bit of snow Nov 25,2017 post holing occasionally but it's still worth it!

Got a light dusting of snow this morning. Trail was still easy to navigate. Stunning views. Hard to beat.

Wonderful little trail. The trail work being done on it is really great! They are not done, yet, but we were so impressed with what they have done. We did this just before sunset (gate is closed at sunset) and it was super peaceful. The lake was pretty in the evening light.
