Length: 6.9 mi • Est. 2 h 46 m
NOTE: You will need an adventure pass to park. The Pine Knot Trail starts at the Aspen Glen Picnic Area and features oaks, pines, wildflowers, and spectacular views of Big Bear Lake. Continue in a primarily southerly direction until you approach Grand View Point (7,784 ft. elevation) - located about one-quarter mile beyond the intersection of the Pine Knot Trail and FS Road 2N10. The trail is sometimes heavily inundated with bike and equestrian traffic but is usually in good condition, and is amazingly serene. Switchbacking through thick forest and meadows it elevates the hiker to lofty lake vistas and ultimately to a panoramic point from which San Gorgonio and Catalina Island can be seen. Autumn colors are particularly breathtaking along this trail, and summer graces the Pine Knot path with a profusion of wildflowers. To reach Grand View Point, continue along 1EO1 beyond its intersection with 2N08-at the junction with 2N10, hike about 1/4 mile along the remaining peninsular path.Show more

This hike takes you to the worlds largest lodgepole. If you have more than an hour then this is the hike to take in Big Bear. It is easy to get to the Champion Lodgepole. It is over 450 years old and 110 feet tall, a real rarity for this variety of pine. The Wildlands Conservancy's Bluff Lake Reserve is open daily from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm May 1 to November 1. Permission to cross through the reserve is only required when the reserve is closed. Contact (909) 797-8507 for questions.Show more

Length: 5 mi • Est. 2 h 11 m
The Alpine Pedal Path is an asphalt path that wanders along the north shore of Big Bear Lake from the Stanfield Cutoff to just west of the Solar Observatory. It is easily accessible for hikers, skaters, joggers and even strollers and wheelchairs. This path extends through a pedestrian tunnel under Highway 38, North Shore Drive, to the Cougar Crest Trailhead parking lot. This path continues east 0.6 of a mile and connects with the Discovery Center. This site is accessible. Park at Juniper Point or Meadow's Edge Picnic Areas or Stanfield Cut-off. The Alpine Pedal Path provides an excellent opportunity to view visiting eagles. The San Bernardino Mountains support the largest wintering bald eagle population in Southern California. Eagles typically begin arriving in the area in late November and continue to stay in the area until early April. Accessibility: The trail surface is smooth, paved asphalt/boardwalk, and typically at least six feet wide. The grade is mostly gentle with two steep areas with an estimated 9% grade at about 0.8 and 1.4 miles when going west. Wheelchair and stroller users may need assistance in these sections.Show more
