Stunning views of the Bay Area! This trail is extra special bc you have to take a ferry to access Angel Island. I love it! Can't wait to do it again.

This is an incredible island hike. So much to see with panoramic views and gorgeous scenery. Highly recommend!

Beautiful to hike around the perimeter!

Beautiful. Great also with kids. Great day.

Just beautiful area. We ventured off trail and went around Belvedere Island which has gorgeous views and homes. This is a hike we will add to our favorites. Ended up being 6.9 miles with our detour.

Awesome hike and one of the best days of my life. Did several trails on Angel and also walked the Golden Gate bridge..... I've fished the little cove on the west end for halibut many times but on this hike I got to hike part of it.

Very quiet day on a Monday! Great views of the Bay which is enhanced by the interesting history of the island. Monday/Tuesdays are quiet but the Museum was closed:( Also very important to make plans ahead of time for the ferry ride back as there are only two ferries in the afternoon and you dont want to miss the last one. We also saw people on the ferry who had rented bikes at Pier 41, rode over the Golden Gate bridge, went to Sausalito, Tiburon and then took the ferry back via Angel Island to Pier 41! Another school group had come by kayak from Tiburon and was planning on overnighting on the island!
Not to be missed for sure!

It is a good paved hike that gives the chance to explore Tiburon. Very beautiful.

Great views from the top. We took the ferry from Tiberon and had a great walk

REI was taking a few Kayakers to the Island first thing and I joined- we arrived at the island at 830 and no one was there- except the SF fog - which limited the views however still a nice secluded hike

Walk around the Angel Island by the perimeter loop is a breathtaking experience with complete 360 degree view of the entire bay and the various bridges and islands in it. We also incorporated a side trip to Mt. Livermore summit in our hike.

Can't beat the views. Beautiful!

Hiked up and down and all around Angel Island - enjoyed a day out there far away from the crowds inside the city of SF....

This one is a toss up. It has great views, challenging hills, and wonderful historical buildings to see and even tour. But you are spending some of the time dealing with trams and other road traffic if you are on foot and it is definitely "heavily trafficked." Also you are walking on asphalt the whole time.

Unparalleled views of the Bay Area - San Francisco, Marin, and three bridges (Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge and Richmond Bridge).

We started on the Sunset Trail, which has switchbacks and a gradual ascent to Mt. Livermore with lovely views of the bay. We came down along the Ida Trail to the Perimeter Trail so that we could see the old military barracks and the immigration detention center on our way back to the cove. This route was about 6.5 miles.

You can get to the peak quicker by going up the steps, but you will not have the same views on your way up. Even though the island was crowded on a Saturday afternoon in June, the Sunset Trail had few people on the ascent. I think most people want to get to the peak as quickly as possible -- it is very exposed to the sun. We still ate lunch near the peak - there is a nice picnic table and landing just down from the peak with amazing views of the city, Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge.

The trails to the peak (Sunset, North Ridge and Ida) have a lot of thistle in the summer, so I recommend wearing pants or heavy hiking socks to protect your legs. The Perimeter trail is a wide paved road. Bring lots of sunblock.

You can get to Angel Island from a number of ferry ports. We traveled from Tiburon, a very wealthy bayfront town in Marin

This is the best easy hike with friends to show off the beauty of the bay.

Super easy and great views I recommend going at sunset.

Did this on Sunday afternoon about 3 and half hours. Very light trafficked. Nice combination of history buildings and scenery. Trail is pretty much a flat road so prepare comfortable shoes.

It was fun taking the ferry to the hike. Nice easy climb to the top of the island, great views. Pack a picnic. There are actually two hike options: up to the top and around the perimeter. Both around five miles. This is a highly trafficked hike with lots of tourists and kids; not super woodsy. Cafe and live band at the trailhead were a nice touch. Good day trip for out-of-towners.

There is a small (100 feet) section of the trail that is closed between Battery Drew and Battery Wallace. The road has washed out, or rather the earth beneath the road has washed out. This does not look to be an easy fix. The island is still filled with amazing views in all directions, you just can't go the whole way round.

This easy trail is made a little less so by several areas of deadfall due to all the storms over the winter. You can still make it to the top, but be prepared to scramble over and under some logs on the way.

Did it along with the perimeter hike. Beautiful sites to take in...

has to be 5 stars simply for the views of the bay. It's more a stroll than a hike but well worth it. Did it and the Golden Gate one day. Epic day of beautiful sites.

Nice hike. A bit foggy at top of Mt Livermore so views were not good. But overall good hike, enjoyed the museums in the island as well
