Park at Owl Canyon Campground. Trailhead is at the end of campground. You can park on red gravel. Quiet and serene. Only saw one hiker going in and no others once it was time to scramble. Dogs are ok up to that point. Cave is about halfway in on the right. No shade.

Trail completely missing in many parts. Had to follow this GPS map more than expected. Also, would rate as difficult. A LOT of scrambling and maneuvering up and down. Great trail though if you’re looking for that sort of stuff!

just at this hike, had a great time. the beginning of the hike have plenty of shade, there are areas that you have to climb up that might be a little difficult for some. it had also rained recently, and he made some of the areas muddy. There was still actually a trickle of water coming down some parts of the hike, which had small puddles of water. after the first part of the hike, the trail was hard to distinguish. and we ended up having to backtrack a few times, if we were to have come from the Slot Canyon side first, it looked like the trail would have been more apparent. Slot Canyon part was beautiful, but I wouldn't want to be in there if there is any chance of rain. we end up taking longer than we thought we were going to need for the hike, partly because of the backtracking, and partly because there was a lot more climbing and descending than we thought there was going to be.

Great adventure but tricky to find the trail at times as we had to double back a few times. Make sure you have a satellite view map downloaded beforehand, it will help. The current amount of rainfall have made a good portion of the trail muddy and hard to find. Be prepared for a lot of loose dirt and rocks as well as a fair amount of climbing and scrambling over small cliffs. Beautiful rock formations and views made it worth it.

This loop trail is a gem! Really enjoyed it. The different colours of Owl Canyon are fantastic. Hikers should be aware that there are a few ledges to scramble up near the top of Owl Canyon. There are several of similar difficulty on the way down the western slot canyon. The northern part of the loop has many alternate trails, you will need the gps route. There is no clear path there. Took us about 4.5 hrs.

My girlfriend and I just did this one. Mostly a long walk in a river bed with high canyon walls until you get to the cave. This is a good one would do it again happy trails

Was hiking with my two dogs and there are too many steep scrambles and technical parts to complete safely with dogs (note one is teeny which makes it tough). The part we could complete was great and it appeared to be a beautiful hike but seemed more hard than moderate to me.

Rocky, sandy terrain. Mostly a very easy walk through the slot canyon. There are a few forks that peter out, but the two main options terminate at some great views. Lots of colorful rock formations. Definitely a fun walk and my dog loved it as well.

Owl Canyon to Rainbow Basin (8 mile loop from campground). Great hike. Some scrambling. Hike through both canyons. Much more enjoyable than an out and back on either. Some opportunities to explore beyond the most direct route. My track is posted under Rainbow Basin Loop.

Very fun, and nice change of scenery. Also proved to be quite the challenge with a 50 pound pack. plan on doing it again.

This hike is a geology geek’s dream; there is so much to see!

Nice trail. Highlight is a cave (need headlight!). Ended up at a dead end for me as a solo hiker, as a team you could probably keep going even deeper into the canyon.
