I love this trail! It's very easy and the perfect trip for beginning backpackers. Also a quick one-night when you have to be back at work the next day. It's pretty flat most of the way except for towards the end just before Island Lake, you start going up a little. Not many place to pitch a tent at Feely, but quite a few around Island Lake.

Great hike, and the lakes are beautiful. If you make it to the third lake it’s almost 11 miles there and back, but well worth it.

Beautiful spot to camp and hike around for a few days :)
No fish to catch in Lindsey in our opinion but lovely spot to float around.
Midweek very chill but weekends surprisingly busy for such a rough unmarked road. My Honda Element made it.

Took the kids here (ages 9&10) for their first backpacking trip. It was a nice, easy hike just right for introducing the kids to overnight hikes. The trail is well marked and beautiful the entire way through. You’ll park at Carr lake trail head, start your hike and after you pass Carr lake on the right, you’ll come to The Feely Lake dam. Pass the dam and you’ll see beautiful views of Feely lake on your left. Next, you’ll see two small ponds, a slight ascend then you’ll finally see a beautiful rewarding view of island lake. It’s About 2 miles from the Carr lake trailhead to island lake. We saw many dogs, but we didn’t bring ours because we weren’t sure if they were allowed.

Gorgeous views all around, especially from the Sand Ridge trail! There seems to be quite a number of off trail camping options at some unnamed lakes towards the end of the trail. Highly recommend swimming at Island Lake.

Bring a high clearance vehicle to get to the trailhead and make sure that your tires are solid because the road to get there is rough. One member of our group returned from our trip to find a slow leak in his back tire despite driving a truck.

This trail is not anywhere close to Nevada City. It is in Yuba Gap off of Hwy 20 and Bowman Lake Rd just off of I80. I just hiked this a few weeks ago. Beautiful place and lots of small lakes. Park at the Lindsey Lake Campground and hike back by following the gravel road past the steal guard gate. Lots of branched off trails from there and great scenery. Im up there every chance I get. Carr Lake and Feeley Lake are just a mile away plus Grouse Ridge and the old rangers lookout and campground there too. Tons of hiking in the local area. Lots of adventure along with a local waterfall that is 500ft or so high next to Fuller Lake which you drive by on the way there which is also part of the Spaulding Lake Trail.

Used this as the first and last leg of a loop down to Penner and Island lakes, up through the Grouse Ridge Trail. This trail has very doable ups and downs, lovely lake views, and beautiful wildflower meadows. Bring plenty of bug spray if you stay at Lower Rock Lake—buzz buzz.

This is a beautiful and sacred area. Beautiful views!

Backpacked into Rock lakes from Lindsay lake. The trail is a fairly good 4x4 road to Lower Rock lake. Easy hiking with slow uphill grade. Lots of water and lakes. Beautiful scenery once on top. We went in Mid May and there was still a little snow around. Strong winds and one night we got lots of thunderstorms and hail. Lots of camping options in this area.

Another amazing trip with the boys and dog! Great hike for intermediate explorer

Excellent hike with beautiful scenery and so many lakes you will never be wanting! Last 4 miles to the trailhead are on dirt road at 10 mph but the time is totally worth it!

Great trail.

Was a most awesome hike, and the perfect weather to do it. Most interesting yo find out that all the campsites beyond the gate at Lindsey campgrounds on up past Rock Lakes are free to stay at. Many of the sites are overlooking the Lakes and shaded!

Not sure why this is rated as EASY? It was a pretty tough hike up to the first lake, 2.6 miles nearly all uphill, and nearly all over boulder-strewn narrow paths. It was pretty warm, mid 80's and we're in our 50s and we dawdled a bit and rested but it took us nearly 2.5 hours to get to the first lake. It was beautiful every step of the way but this is not an easy trail. We've done 5 miles hikes on trails listed as moderate with much more ease.

Pretty tough hike up to the lake but worth the trip. Lots of people and dogs though!
If you get to this point make sure you make it up to the High Loch Leven. Fewer people too! The added hike only adds about 20 minutes.

This View point is an easy walk over this Hill from Loch Leven Lake.
It was little smokey but a nice view for sure. At the top there was no signal for the phone's GPS. Signal was spotty all over up there.

A great deal of this trail is boring and cannot be described as difficult at all, unless the difficulty is in tolerating the jeep trail and the "nothing interesting to see." Only after about 3 miles have passed on the way out, the forest opens up with older growth, a comfortable spacious place. The last mile is rather rocky, technical hiking with steep ups and downs, which almost makes it worth walking those first 3 miles, almost. I would like to go to that area again but will not take this trail to get there. L

Started from Bowman Road, so ended up waking mostly on a gravel road, through a campground and past a couple homes. The middle mile, at the lakes, was much better and off the road. About 1/3 of the way was shaded, and the flies were terrible. I probably won't do this trail again, but might make my way to the lakes via some of the other trails in the area.

Great hike in the beautiful Sierras up to an absolute beautiful lake! The only complaint I had for this trail is that in several areas the trail was not well marked. Trail needs some maintenance work done to it. Many down trees, manzanita over growing trail, and easy to lose trail in many areas. But if you are good with maps, GPS, or even using your smart phone to navigate, you can definitely find the trail again in areas where it is well marked. And reaching beautiful Beyers Lake is a great reward!

Been doing this great hike out of Eagle Lakes since 1999. I would bring football coaches and teammates each summer to help us grow closer as a team. Each and every guy has since then been going to this beautiful lake with more and more people every year. Best place to get away from the world for a few days if your from the Grass Valley/ Nevada City area.

Fun hike! It was worth the drive up and the hike wasn't too difficult. Good hike for children and beginners!
