Avila Beach, California Map

We stopped here for a quick hike to break up the drive from southern to Northern California and it was a welcome break. Really lovely views and a nice workout with the hills. Be sure to stop and enjoy the swings along the way!

Nice short hike, very steep in parts with nice views on top

Nice trail with lots of traffic

Amazing expansive views on this hike of Shell Beach and San Luis Bay. I parked on El Portal and then started the hike at the trailhead around the corner. I went on a Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. and it was definitely crowded. The first half of the hike has several steep ascents with loose rocks and dirt. I saw a few people struggling who were wearing crappy shoes. I turned off the main trail toward Sycamore Springs, but then decided to do a loop and return to the main trail. I then took a steep trail down to the Pirate’s Cove parking lot. I took a short bluff trail from there which deposited me in a gated neighborhood with some very large houses. There is a path along the side of the road and a lookout. After exiting the neighborhood, I found myself on El Portal road again. It was a fun hike - I will definitely go back.

Nice and easy well maintained.

More difficult than a typical moderate hike. Lots of steep inclines, but beautiful vistas.

I wouldn't consider this a hiking trail. it's more of short backyard walk. Very easy and very short. Very short steep parts that can get slippery If you wear wrong shoes. views are nice specially at night. This is one of those walks you can do if you're bored. Excellent place for runners who want to get out of flat terrain. Kid friendly, easy 20 minute walk.

Had a burrito with BigFoot and French fries

Trekked up to the top and deep fried our catch of the day. Delicious!

Beautiful, clean, mostly shaded trail.

If you wana enjoy the sea view throughout your trail, go for it. Gets sketchy at some places and gets slippery but it's an nice moderate trail !!

Steep but the view makes it worth it. Swing at the top is an awesome photo op. Down side is finding parking.

I do this run regularly. It is a nice, relatively flat asphalt trail that eventually widens to a road, takes you through a golf course and deposits you near Avila Beach. It is a lovely run.

return from pirate's cove... easier than trip there.

nice hike up to the summit, down to the beach was bit more hairy due to loose footing. but worth it.

Beautiful views at the top. Road from Sycamore Mineral Springs to the ridge, so works well for hiking side by side. I prefer to do the Ontario Ridge loop for this hike.

Not a challenging walk, but pretty.

Breathtaking views!!!

Great trail! parking is troublesome. I parked at the Bob Jones Bike Path parking lot to avoid being towed at the other (resort) locations. Don't go by my time table as as was doing much Tech photography.

steep going up and down. Nice view at the top.

Plunty of shade and sun. Very relax walk.

It is very nice hike. Enjoyed the sun and shade.

Great hike! Steady incline. Wide path. Started at Bob Jones Trailhead, and as a newbie to hiking, did 4.25 miles in 90 minutes. Beautiful views of Avila, even when the marine layer lays low. And cute tree swing at the top.

Not a hike but it’s a nice easy walk to get to Avila Beach when you can’t find parking in town.

Nice trail for beginners like me, mainly flat. We did this around 9am on a Sunday. Lots of parking left and there is a restroom in the parking lot. Next restroom is at the beach. The trail took us to the beach where there are shops and restaurants. Even though it was flat, I was still sore the next day. Beginning of the trail and towards the end provided shade. On our way back, around 11: 30, the trail got busier and sunnier. Bring a hat. I definitely recommend this trail. Would do it again if I visit the area.

great trail on a sunny day! goes all the way to Avila and has a little market about halfway through.

Nice easy walk to Avila Beach. Saw lots of birds.

Great trail for all ages! Kept clean! Will come back! Lots of places for pictures.
