Beautiful clean creek you will cross on steady flat rocks soon after starting. It was 1,620 ft elevation but it was easy for me. The trail guides you so that you would hike side-to-side of the hill, instead of climbing up the hill, so each turn is sharp but all turns are very well formed, packed with large rocks so it was very stable. You will know the top is getting closer as each turn gets shorter and shorter. I saw several volunteers working to construct a corner near the top. Even though there were some rocks along the way, the paths are packed down well, they are not loose. It was beautiful all the way through so, it didn’t feel like that high. I could see some spots were fortified with retainers, nicely done. Volunteers must have worked hard to collect trunks and branches to form paths for walkers, very nicely done. I saw a jogger climbing to the top, so you can tell trails are easy to walk on. The top offers a gorgeous view of the city. I would prefer to hike in fall and winter, not in summer. I loved every step!!

Don’t get the wrong vibe about this trail it is a great beginner trail. The trail was two person width, with compacted Decomposed Granite or DG. Very Heavy traffic on weekends and alittle muddy. The reason for the 3 stars is because although the hike was great the top isn’t the best view in the world. And sort of small/ cramped. But I would recommend to other!

This is a perfect stroll for my old lazy dog. Short and sweet in a Beautiful setting. I went mid morning on a cold day - 44 degrees and sunshine and it was lovely. Lots of woodpeckers!

Very pretty. It felt like higher than 165ft but still easy. Nice golf course. Too bad those sand bikes are noisy and annoying.

Casual walking trail with small elevation gain on a well maintained trail. Beautiful scenery and secluded.

Pretty easy hike with a beautiful view.

Great hike. Trails are well maintained. Beautiful views of downtown Atascadero.

Very pleasant hike. Trail is well taken care of and clearly marked. The lower loop is great for kids. The upper lookout point, which is an out and back trail attached to the loop, was a good little workout for me.

Don’t use the GPS to navigate to the trail on this one, it navigates to a turn out on 41. There’s a parking lot at the end of Barranco and Carmelita streets that you can access through the neighborhood or over a dry river crossing off 41 across from the house with the metal dinosaurs. Really nice trail, well marked with directional markers as well as educational ones. Nice views!

Beautiful! Ended up here last minute and so happy we did! Make sure you got all the way up!

Good little trail, my tracking app said 1.75 miles with some elevation changes and pretty scenery. Would be a good one for a trail run.

This is a fun and easy hike with a beautiful view at the top

Nice easy walk. I second the gripes that the trail is hard to follow, though it seems irrelevant since it’s a dry riverbed that kind of meanders wherever you want it to. Quite a few sandy parts so walking is tough. Also evidence of motor activity (dirt bikes etc.). Would hate to be on the trail if someone cane tearing around the corner on an ATV.

Easy parking, nice trail. Super steep at one point but only for a short distance. The view was worth it!

Great hike! A lot better than anticipated!

Good up hill test of stamina alot of switch backs but fun

Lots of poison oak on the sides of the trail. Pretty dry, and dusty. Not one I would want to hike on a hot day. Morning is probably the best. The view at the top is nice. Decent workout. It has a yellow jacket warning because of high activity. We were lucky not to have issues with them though. Don’t bring dogs without Lepto vaccine, lots of wood rat nests along the trail.

Great trail for families with kids learing to ride trails a lot of people walking the trail so becareful

Fun, relatively easy trail. Good for a quick workout before or after work. Good views from the top with lots of blue oaks and other fine native flora throughout the trail. Moderately trafficked, so not the best choice if you're looking for solitude.

Fun family-friendly hike with some good views. Interesting plant life. Can be made more difficult depending on specific trail route chosen. Great spot for a quick decompress after work.

My husband and I try and do this hiking weekly. It a perfect early morning or evening weekday hike. Great showcase of California wildflowers!

Fun quick hike. Clean trail and nice informational signs about local plants and animals.
