Not bad of a hike, but a pretty view on the drive up. 4x4 not necessary but would recommend having a high clearance vehicle. Trail head very easy to find and clear trail. Started hike at 7am and saw 50+ salamanders on the trail. About 100ft from the waterfall, not very visible until you head back, is a trail that leads you to the top of the waterfall. Long pants/ sleeves recommended because there is a lot of poison oak/ivy that crosses into the trail. There’s a few water pools along the way that you could swim/wade in.

Trail requires 4x4 and high water clearance. During rainy season or after a decent rain storm you cross about five streams. Once at the trail head hike is somewhat easy although some moderate climbs to get to the falls. Lots of poison oak along the trail. Wear long pants and use Technu after the hike to make sure you don’t get poison oak.

on Trout Creek Trail

Trail was very overgrown with poison oak. Make sure to wear long sleeves and pants. Brought the dogs. Creek was flowing. Only went to the intersection of buckeye trail.

Really fun and challenging trail...my friend and I had never done this trail before today and we didn’t know that it’s inside the Lopez Lake park until our GPS ended at the entrance. The trail is awesome but be prepared to pay a $10 day fee and beware of the ticks!

Great easy trail, lots of birds and nature, and poison oak so stick to the clean trail.

This trail loop is accessed along James Way - a main thoroughfare to the Trader Joes's, Walmart, OSH & Food 4 Less shopping complexes - offering a conveniently located quick exercise break (roughly a 20 min. loop under a lovely oak canopy) on the way to or from doing nearby errands! Often I'll bring my energetic Lab along so we can both enjoy a quick stroll during what might otherwise be a busy, non-exercising day. It's an especially nice trail on warm summer days where the shady oak trees provide a cool, easy and local hiking option. Lots of poison oak surrounds the oaks, so stay on the trail!

Easy hike, very secluded. Pretty falls!

Clean well managed trail. Nice scenery, there were other trails that went uphill and fun to walk but we avoided a couple due to poison oak. Overall a very easy walk for any age and we will be back.

I should have checked with the forest service and noted in the above description of winter closure, and yes, the road from the south entrance was closed approximately 4 miles from the trailhead.

Drove through rivers to get to trailhead. No waterfall at end, was super disappointed.

This is my "go to" trail whenever I want a nice workout close to home where my dogs can tag along. The views are amazing and the spur choices off the Ridge trail are a shady option on warm days. Best time to go when you'll not likely see a soul is weekday mornings. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen & wear long pants if you take the spurs (lots of poison oak!) A great short loop is Turkey Ridge trail.
Update: You can access this series of trails without entering the park & paying a day fee. Take Hi Mtn Rd (just before park entrance) turn left on Upper Lopez Cyn Rd. up to top of ridge and park in one of the numerous shoulder pull outs.

Trail was clear and passable up to the falls (did not go further).

Lots of water in the river crossings on the road to the trailhead. Recommend high clearance vehicle.

note that the trail is currently closed for vehicles

Lots and lots of flies up and back on the trail.

Me and my 8 year old daughter hiked this last year. Definitely need to go back in spring when there is more water. We still swam with the Nox Turtles and Salamanders. Scenic trail, but watch out for Poison Oak.

Solid trail. Falls stops falling by July. Even in a very wet year. Still plenty of swimming holes and cliff jump options along the way

Well I attempted to do the hike but I wasn't feeling comfortable in my little 94 toyota pickup ( with rear wheel drive) crossing all the creeks. as of a few days ago the deepest crossing that I encountered was 1 ft deep and about 30 ft long. I'll attempt the hike again in a month or so, hoping the creeks dry up just a tad. And ill attempt to put weight in the back of my truck so i can handle better in the creeks. Definitely would recommend a 4x4 or if not experience crossing creeks

The trail is definitely a moderately challenging trail. More challenging than I think "easy" suggests. There is no shade after the intersection with Black Berry trail.... So sunscreen up ! The next shade is nearly to the end of the trail. The last mile or so of my route was on the roadway, as opposed to being actual trail. All in all I enjoyed this hike. The views at the top are very nice. Do beware ticks ! I have done this trail twice and have seen ticks both times.

This trail or what used to be a trail is severely overgrown with poison oak and weeds. We actually went all the way and stayed one night. If you attempt this make sure you are fully covered with clothes. Trekking pole are a must as well.

great hike, water shoes came in handy when crossing the creeks.

This trail was overgrown, ticks everywhere, and not that great. I got lost and couldn't even find my way to the trail for 20 minutes. Part of it was pretty. But I wouldn't say this is the best trail for Kids or animals.

Great trail with excellent views. Lots of elevation relief, we took the turkey trail up to high ridge, lots of poison oak on that spur so be careful. I would not recommend small children or small dogs, total loop we took was 5.2 miles

be aware this is a dirt road hike, not an actual trail.

We started at the parking area at Lopez lake and took the Turkey Ridge Trail which meets up with the High Ridge trail. This added a little mileage, and was a nice shady start to the hike. Lots of fossils of shells, and great view.
