Would have been an easier hike had I not forgotten my water

We hiked this trail mid June and it was beautiful. The up hills were a challenge but the view once you get up into the trees and can see the skyline is great. Definitely a great workout!

Gorgeous. Amazing views, moderate effort with the hills, varied scenery—tree shaded area, rolling hills, etc.

Very easy to navigate, largely fire road, still beautiful wild flowers along the trails and 2-3 bathrooms as well. Quite exposed so lots of water will be good if the temp gets above 70s. I didn’t realized there was a road goes to the top with parking lot. I will definitely hike again especially in early spring time !

Great hike. Good for medium or heavy cardio. Needs a little path clearing but still a great viewpoint

Love this trail, a nice 6 mile loop.. next time I want to hike to the Summit!!

Great trail to do with kids. There were a lot of little creeks in the middle.

This is a great hike. After the rain it was extremely slippery and we all 4 slipped and fell in the mud, it was so much fun but we averaged 2 hours. Should be a lot shorter in dry conditions.

could not get in, you have to make reservations

Beautiful hike

The start of the trail isn’t easy to find. It’s through a fence opening on right before you head up the private drive.

Really nice hike with the dogs. After steep start the hike around the O’Neill property had some great views and colors in the Fall.

Tough uphill to start, but great trail with some optional routes. Beautiful views of the San Ramon Valley and Mt. Diablo. My wife loved it!

From a view standpoint starts off slow. Then when you get to the wooded area it opens up nicely.

This trail gets very steep in sections once above the shade. We turned around at the Madrone intersection, 1 mile up. Then 1 mile back to TH. AT recorded el gain as 660' in the 1 mile up. Good views of Mt Diablo up at the ridge.

Hiked it in Oct and while a nice hike, it'll be much better in spring and early summer when the creeks are flowing. They are dry now. Saw a fox so that was cool.

Lots of shade to cool off in. Avoid during prime sun. Good 2 1/2 hour hike.

Liked the short hike very much, especially visiting the Eugene O'Neill National Monument, that was special and made this short hike. But you can continue further on two trails, which we did do, to make the hike longer.

Hiked the first week of April- the sunny day after the rains. Very muddy, lots of cow pies, and multiple stream crossings. Shoes may get wet if you fail to jump over the streams or hop on rocks to cross. Bring extra shoes to change into if you are driving back home from the hike, as your shoes will be caked in mud! However the scenery was beautiful! Butterflies, blooming flowers, ground squirrels, cows, turkeys, earth worms, water falls, rivers/streams, and green everything! You get to see a couple elevated rock faces halfway through the loop. I recommend hiking here in the summer or after a week or more of sunny weather. I do not recommend this trail if it has recently rained (because of muddy terrain).

This is happy trail for horses. It's muddy and very hard to walk.

My favorite. Can be a bit tricky right now w all the water.

Extremely muddy!

Lots of mud after all of the rain! Wear shoes with good traction, I fell once when turning around on a relatively steep incline. Other than becoming very muddy, all was well from then on. Eugene O'Neill house was awesome! I returned via the streets due to the mud on the trail. Will do again, beautiful views!

Great everyday hike, several trails turn off from here so you can vary the length of your hike. Dog friendly on leash. It was muddy due to recent weather, but we did fine with good hiking boots. Beautiful views, only saw one other group. Some steep hills in places. Would definitely do it again.

Had a great time hiking with a friend and my two 10 year old brothers. My brothers struggled a little bit towards the end but all in all it was a great hike that was shaded for over half the time. Beautifully scenery and would definitely do it again!

ended up taking stage road too far and added a couple miles and a few left turns, nonetheless awesome hike.

Great hike! I went there with my two boys (6 and 4 years old). They enjoyed the hike up and down, as well as through the valley. Scenery was beautiful. Kids were happy to see cows and horses. We also heard a woodpecker (wish we could find it) and saw floating dandelion seeds. It was a bit stretching for our 4-year-old but with a lot of encouragement and snack breaks, he managed to finish it all by himself.

Nice view of Diablo all the way. I took a longer rout, which took me almost 3 hours.
