Great 4x4 trail for off-road driving or mountain biking

Beaitiful views. The north half of trail is narrow and filled with loose rock. A high clearance 2 wheel drive could make it. The south half is paved. Gate to the top near watch tower is open.

trail was open 7/9/19. really fun and moderate trail. lots of offshoots for those who want more technical stuff. can do most of it in 2wd, but will need clearance for rocks and ruts.

Fun trail but take your time and watch your surroundings because there was a lot of Poison Oak everywhere. We tried to take a small group of kids and turned back about a third of the hike because a path looked like it washed out. There was no definite marking and we did a lot of guessing. I went back and hiked/ran the trail on my own. I didn't think it was easy, more like moderate. I ran into some people that turned back halfway into the trail because they thought they were lost. Nevertheless, it was a fun hike but I took the road back to the campsite.

fun trail. lots of scenery.

Great hike with amazing hiking buddies. Started easy to moderate with good inclines.

Decent trail, but definitely some over grown and under marked areas of the trail. Went off trail a few times to try to continue on the hike. Needs maintenance.

Excellent hike that hits the best parts of Palomar Mountain. Pair this with the Doane Valley Loop and you'll want to keep coming back!

With Marty... Perla's first hike!

Do yourself a favor and get a trail map of the area at the ranger station or download one before you come because the trails are not marked well. $10 entrance fee to the state park. Beautiful area though. Not a lot of people right now and great weather! Scott’s cabin is basically non existent right now. Looks like a pile of logs (maybe they are getting ready to rebuild it??)

Trail is a nice hike. Close to roadway so you’ll hear cars rolling along the whole time. A large tree obliterated part of the trail and the creek is rushing over another part. So you’ll have to do some scrambling until they fix it. Otherwise it was nice.

Hitting a locked gate so close to coming out at the observatory pretty much ruined the day. Nothing spectacular on trail and some parts were even rather poorly paved. Over all a waste of gas...

Pretty nice trail. Easy to follow. Look for the wild mistletoe in the tops of the trees. The Palomar Observatory was awesome if you’re into science and math. I think the trail should be rated as moderate.

Nice little trail to see a bit of Palomar Mountain.

I've done this trail a few times along with several of the other nearby ones. It's a nice change of scenery on Palomar Mountain from the desert below. It's a shame Scott's Cabin has not survived, but the apple orchard still being cultivated is really neat.

Extremely fun till the end on the eastern side. Locked gate but found an opening to squeeze through.

Hike is beautiful and easy. Pretty well traveled trail and the lake where you fish is crowded, but all in all still a beautiful walk. Not dog friendly

What a beautiful trail and directions were spot on! At first we had a dirt trail but as we ascended we got to enjoy snow!! Passed a few others along the way and on the backside coming down towards Warner Springs hit a tight spot as someone coming up was trying to pass us. Overall would do it again!!

Very beautiful scenic drive. I did this in my stock 2018 JK. Did not have to put it in 4 wheel drive, but did anyway when we were going over the icy spots. There were many side trails closed off.
