This hike started as a relatively pretty one and is probably much better suited for winter hiking but...there were SO MANY SPIDERS AND SEED TICKS today. We joked that it looked like the trail had been decorated for Halloween by how covered in spiderwebs it was and spending 3 hours batting spiders out of your face does make for an enjoyable hike.

Word of caution - this trail is well-marked but not referred to by the name of “Eagle View Loop” until you’re well into the hike. You’ll come to a fork on the “dam” structure where you have the option of taking the “Spillway Loop” or the one that heads back down into the forest (take the latter) and about halfway in, you’ll see another split for “Eagle View Loop.” This adds the extra mile or so to bring this hike to the full 5 miles but was one of the worst hiking experiences I’ve ever had - mosquito and tick infested, overgrown and damp. Just skip this part of the hike and continue toward “Lake Loop” and back toward the parking lot. Signage begins to get confusing as there are a few loops that intersect one another so you’ll want to pay close attention to the trail maps at the trailhead (Lake Lincoln parking area) and pick your route accordingly.

That being said, the trail is very doable for all skill levels and I would probably rate it much higher if I hadn’t taken the Eagle View Loop and continued on toward Lake Loop/parking area.

I went around the loop Halloween late afternoon. I only passed one other hiker on the trail, and two in the parking lot that were just finishing when I started. Lots of up and down and some muddy spots. I would hate to see this get overused. Not much trash. Please take a trash bag and keep it that way. Good Girl Scout rule: always leave a place cleaner than you found it.

Great trail. More moderate than easy in my opinion, but really enjoyed the rock formations and lake views.

This turned out to be one of my favorite trails close to where I live. Beautiful lake view and the rock formations were amazing. I was pleasantly surprised. I can say that the lower trails below the bluffs had a thousand spiders & webs ticks & chiggers, but that's to be expected this time of year. Don't forget your bug spray!
This is a trail I will be hiking often!

also found a bear prints in mud puddle on the trail. Wish I could've seen it. that would've made it even better.

The trail itself is beautiful. As others have said - the rock formations are very cool and the trail is very well marked.

The reason I am giving this only 2 stars is because of the ticks! I just moved to the area, so I may be naive - but my dogs had over 70 ticks on them after walking this trail. I just spent the last 5 hours picking ticks off of the dogs and I think I could find more if I kept looking. I may try this trail again in the winter, but until then I’m steering clear.

Great hike. Not for a 1st time hiker as the trail goes up and down a lot. Perfect for dogs as there are plenty of water stop around the trail as well as stop to eat a picnic. Absolutely loved the trail lots of rock structures and every terrain in 1 hike. Set the hammock up at the 1st look out and made sandwiches. Passed few people on the whole hike and never saw anyone at the look out spots. Great place for some awesome photography if you’re willing to make the hike!

Very nice weather this weekend. Water in places and a tree is down over the Spillway Loop just past the spillway itself. Copperheads and ticks seen around the water-ahhhh, springtime in Arkansas!

We really loved this hike! Beautiful scenery and wildlife, the kids loved it, so did our Collie.

Great trail with diverse rocky terrain! We did turned into the lake loop. Enough space for heavy traffic and but you still feel secluded. Our 7 month old lab did Great on and off the leash. This lake is not swimming friendly. The trail head has a pic of what looks like large water moccasins with a sign that states “swimming in the lake is not recommended.” We did see a snake on St. Patty’s day. Thanks St. Patrick!

Lots of different offshoot trails which are great to switch things up whenever you go back. Very clearly marked with white diamonds- no mile markers however.

Great hike definitely doing it again

Lots of nice bluffs and rocks. Well marked trail. Will definitely be back to do another loop and to kayak.

Really great hike. Trail clearly marked, beautiful scenery, what more can you ask

It's a beautiful hike. The rock formations are gorgeous and I enjoyed the variety of trail options.

If you want a trail that gives you a little bit of everything, this is it. The entire trail system is interconnected, and a great challenge for early hikers. I took a small army of teenagers, and they're clamoring to go back.

The rock formations are low and climbable, the trail is easily discernable and well marked, there are several caves that are reachable for the main trail, and the elevation changes are consistent but manageable, even for guys with arthritic knees (like me).

I'd definitely recommend this jaunt to anyone near enough to reach it.

How could someone not love Eagle View Loop? It offers some of the most beautiful views in the state.

Beautiful scenery, not too difficult for the dog and wife but not so simple as to be boring. Lots of wildlife and really cool rock formations.

nice views. wasn't terribly busy.

This was probably one of my favorite hikes to date. The lake is really gorgeous, though don't plan to swim in it! The Eagle Loop, which is an off-shoot of the Lake Loop (the trail map here is actually of the Lake Loop) passes through large rock formations and winds back and forth near the lake, all on a flat, easy trail, and we did, indeed, see eagles.

The very well-marked Lake Loop takes you on the top of the bluff over-looking the lake (definitely take the short side-trail to the lake view overlook), as well as along the bluff line back in the woods, and even along the top of the dam. The terrain and vegetation vary greatly, and there's a lot of wildlife to see. I imagine that the views are spectacular during prime Autumn colors.
The city of Lincoln's website has a link to a map of the all the trails surrounding the lake.

this trail needs to be better marked with color coded interior trails... and the mountain bikers need tons Tay on there own trails, one stirred up a ground wasps nest shining our 8 yr old grand daughter and us several times. we will not be traveling back to this trail.......

Nice trail for running especially during winter.

Great trail. Well marked, though very rocky.

Very well kept trail and clearly marked. Lake loop is 5 miles but there are several side loop options to extend the experience.

Pleasant find! This is our newest goal now; to make it around the whole lake! Great views, and clean/maintained trails! Hendrix The Hiking Dog had a great time!

Great trail! Highly recommend!

Great hike, great views and not many people. We had a small dog with us and it was a little too much for him, but nice easy hike for us. Dogs need to be kept on a leash because of bluffs. We will be back with the trees are green!

This was a lovely hike. We had the dog with us and he did fine, although I did put him on the leash near the overlooks. My favorite part was deep in this Eagle Loop where there were large boulders and beautiful woods. It was worth sticking it out to get there. Would recommend to anyone in the Fayetteville area.

Kayaked the lake recently and it was pretty! A different perspective for sure

I have hiked these trails many times. In 1985 there were no trails. That was a tougher hike around the lake. Until they put the trails in, we used to camp, at the end of the road, south of the parking area.
