This is a wonderful trail! I wish there were more photos of it!

Very pleasant hike with trees around you to varying degrees throughout the hike. Two distinct sections: generally flat then an almost constant grade uphill. Hiked in late May and still many wildflowers especially near the top of the hill. Nice views but nothing spectacular. Note that starting from the lake the trail is 3.1 miles each way.

The water isn’t flowing right now, but the views are still very beautiful!

Anyone been recently and know if the water fall is flowing ?

Couldn't make it all the way around because the lake level must be high. Trail just ended into the water. Tried to find another way around, but ran into a fence. Too many people fishing with their gear spread out on the trail. I don't like having to walk behind 7 year olds casting. They tend to not pay attention and hooks dangling in your face is not fun.

completed May 10th. The trail was very nice and thickly wooded towards the top. Nice views and came across lots of wildlife.

Few fallen trees on trail, good switch backs all the way up. Short but steep. Nice views up top, good rocks to sit on and enjoy it. Run every other switchback, good workout.

Nice easy walk around the lake. My dogs love it here

4/25/20 hiked a portion of the rim loop trail. Too late in the season and the falls were dry but still was a beautiful day to be outside enjoying the cooler weather with the higher elevation

the 3 waterfalls at the sw corner are great, however they aren’t part of the trail map. the trailhead there is ‘sycamore falls’ (which is taped off). I started at the vista point trailhead at the end of 56. The trailhead listed on the trail info is completely opposite the waterfalls. the actual rim trail in between vista point and the falls is kind of mundane and doesn’t go very close to the canyon; lots of sparse forest.

What trail head did you hike in from please? If the main one is closed? Would like to hike it tomorrow

Great trail. No main trail head start point is closed but we hiked in from another trail head and the water falls were flowing.

We completed this trail April 6 2020. Beautiful forest views going through ponderosa pines! It was a little windy and still some snow on the trailhead! The last 1/2 mile you have a stunning view of dogtown lake and once you get to the top you can see a clear view of Mount Humphrey's! Moderate intensity: the first half of the trial is very minimal elevation gain then its a gradual incline to the top! And its a dog friendly trail :)

This was a nice hike where we were able to see some blue herons, but unfortunately the southwest part of the lake is completely flooded right now and we were not able to continue the loop. Maybe during the summer it would be better.

This trail was a ton of fun for the first 8 miles. There were absolutely gorgeous views. Around mile 8 the trail lead down a small snow covered cliff that was incredibly difficult to find. We had to use some rock climbing skills to get the the bottom of the canyon, only to cross a high river that took some finesse (unfortunately I fell in). Once we finally found the directions to the trail again we climbed up the mountain which was very tough. The top of the mountain was gorgeous. On our way down, we noticed that we began to come off the path again, even though we were on a clearly marked trail. We had to scale our way down the mountain, which appeared to have been destroyed by an avalanche in order to follow the map appropriately... This trail is not for the faint of heart. I recommend having plenty of water and a way to make sure your phone won’t die. Leave plentyyyy of daylight. You will need it!!
